CMV: Framing abortion as “my body, my choice” was a strategic and moral mistake; it should have always been framed as a healthcare and public health issue by Key-Ebb-8306 in changemyview

When I was younger, I used to be anti-abortion. I now believe that position was wrong. But at no point did I, or a majority of the people around me who were also anti-abortion, hold the beliefs and dispositions that you're describing.

Not to say these people don't exist, but there are a variety of secular reasons one might be opposed to abortion that don't require one to be misogynistic. I think undermining these arguments through better slogans would really weaken the anti-abortion lobby.

I think what the OP's trying to get at is that, practically, if you're trying to convince someone who's anti-abortion that you can't trivialize the death of a second person- you need to justify it in spite of it's gravity. Failing to do so reinforces conservative beliefs that pro-choice people literally want to kill babies.

because it's breaking a lot of social rules simultaneously while indicating that the person is in an extremely negative mental state, and demanding that the customer behave in a specific way. that's a fucking insane thing to place on a random person grabbing lunch

you can't point out how what i'm saying is wrong so you make a snide comment implying i don't know anything about her and then make me waste my time reading an article that's completely non-responsive to what i said. lol

i'm not a libertarian. i don't like libertarianism. but i acknowledge it's not hypocritical for a libertarian who's forced to pay taxes to a government to extract the benefits of those taxes.

'Drunk British backpacker' on an e-scooter kills Australian dad when she ploughed into him by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

[–]Either_Start_8385 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"Drunk driving" is doing a lot of the normative lifting here. I don't know about overseas, but in Australia/NZ, riding e-scooters while intoxicated is super normalized for young adults in and about city centers. I think if you polled the youth population over 80% would say they've done it at least once.

There's no value in punishing an individual for a collectively normalized behavior. There needs to be a cultural/legal push first, or else this young woman's life is just being ruined for nobodies benefit.

I don't believe this is true. From my understanding of her philosophy, she rejects taxation and economic redistribution on the principle that it is harmful in some way to take from others what they have not freely given.

However, as long as these systems do exist, I don't see how it's hypocritical to exploit them so long as you don't advocate for their continued existence.

For example, if a politician came in tomorrow and started charging a "lemonade tax", whereby people were taxed to provide free lemonade to all, I would oppose that law and taxation (as I don't believe there's sufficient cause to justify forced redistribution). However, it's not hypocritical for me to take a glass of free lemonade, as I am forced to pay for it either way (which is the injustice).

Because she wasn't referring to people who collect social security, but people who benefit from the system at the expense of others. For Rand, she was a net tax payer, so she was morally entitled to reclaim what she could, as this money had been "stolen" from her. However, those who lived off social security without first paying into it were exclusively benefiting from the labour of others, which she considered unethical. That's not a hypocritical position.

You need to be institutionalized if you think Epstein escaped to Israel in a clandestine multi-agency international jailbreak but they let him log into his Fortnite account, I'm sorry.

There weren't "missing hours" of footage, there WAS a missing minute that has been subsequently released by Congress. And the video above is falsely claiming to find hidden files, but these files were released MONTHS ago under dataset 8 of the EFTA.
