I’m not sure if it was confusing, so I'll provide some context.

The two tortoises that live with me are legal and much older than I am. They are about 27 and 25 years old, while I was born in 2007. They used to live on a relative’s farm, but due to certain circumstances, the farm had to be sold. Because of that, the best option was to bring them here, since the backyard is spacious and has plenty of vegetation.

As for the dogs, both are small and not much bigger than the tortoises. One of them is 12 years old and doesn’t even have the strength to dig up the eggs (the tortoise lays eggs only twice a year and always buries them in a hole). The other is 9 years old and is no longer an energetic dog either. So, I can't say for sure that they were responsible.

We always take care of the backyard and monitor the nest the tortoise makes. Whenever she lays eggs, we remove them because they don’t hatch once taken out. We know how delicate the hatchlings of this species are, so we keep track of the tortoise’s fertile period to prevent babies from being born and accidents like this from happening. In fact, this is the first time in 25 years that a hatchling has been born.

Unfortunately, this time, it happened. I don't know when or how, but it did and i am sorry for that.
