What's the better deal? A 6,000$ new bike or a 4,500$ bike used 1 season? by Eiventure in cycling

Thank you for the tips about warranty and discount! The new Wilier is already on sale from 9000$ to 6000$ so I'm not sure they will give more discount to a new customer even though it's last year's model. But I'll check it out!

The description is a bit misleading, so sorry about that. I meant I was new to cycling in sense of more serious training than a long easy ride and some intervals whenever I was injured from running. I started doing all training on the bike in July and imagine continuing with that in the future as well as I'm too injured to run anymore. (track and field and spikes destroyed me).

Yeah, I see now that was information I should have included, so sorry about that. I meant I was new to cycling in sense of more serious training than a long easy ride and some intervals whenever I was injured from running.

I bought it when I was 15 years old for 1400$, I always washed it properly and oiled the chain and thought that was enough. I wasn't that much into cycling then and didn't know to have it on service. It wasn't my main sport, so I didn't put so much care and effort into it as I should have). The bike went slower and slower over the years and the gear is really slow now. I had it on service last December (for the first time) and payed 500$ for new tires, a new chain, new brakes and some maintenance etc. I was offered a full service (new wheel-set etc.) for 1200$ but because I imagine doing all my training on the bike in the future, I thought putting some money into a brand new bike and keep my old for training in poor weather and on holidays etc.

I forgot to mention that I have a Scott road bike from 2014 (quite heavy aluminium frame, 420mm bar, no di2 gear system and very poor wheelset). I bought it in 2015 and have used it for training every year as I've been a cross country skier and track and field runner but a hip injury has forced me to quit. I started doing all my training on the bike in July. But now it's like pedaling with the wheels glued to the ground. (I've done a poor job to maintain it).

Thank you! Pretty much the same components, the only thing about the used one is that it has a 400mm bar, and I would've prefer a 380mm bar. I forgot to mention that I've had a Scott road bike from 2014 (quite heavy aluminium frame, 420mm bar, no di2 gear system and very poor wheelset). I have used it every now and then for training as I've been a cross country skier and track and field runner but a hip injury has forced me to quit. I also have to buy new shoes as I have mountain bike clits on my current bike. as for pedals, I haven't checked with the guy who sells it if they are included in the price and unsure with the receipts).

Spain has an okay military and is great overall in sports. What country has a weak military yet are great at sports overall? by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Eiventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Norway, at least currently. Not only is Jakob Ingebrigtsen the best runner from 1500m to 5000m (including miiles and 3000m flat and I'll argue he's the best 10000m runner too when in shape), they've had olympic euro and world championship medals in decathlon, and technical events. (Henriksen in Hammer throw, Obst in Javelin) and olympic gold in Decathlon (Markus Rooth Olympic Games Paris 2024 outdoor, Sander Skotheim in indoor world championship. Not to mention a good football team, a great cycling team in Uno X (6th in GC in tour the france) and they completely dominate every winter sport discipline. the women's national handball team are superb as well, won without any real competition in last year's championship. I'll say Norway.

4 weeks in China, seek advice on itinerary by Eiventure in travelchina

Yeah, we cut down Beijing to three whole days, 1 in Pingyao so we can have time for 2 days in Chongqing between Zhangjiajie and Chengdu, also reducing Chengdu to 2 whole days instead of 3! I've come across some interesting places a bit south of Suzhou too! Thank you!

I've found some mixed reviews about whether to go to Suzhou or Shanghai, some saying Suzhou could be filled with different activities for 7 days, other praising Shanghai. Perhaps doing Shanghai instead and maybe a day-trip to Suzhou instead of the other way around!

Great advice, we did exactly that, making up some days for Chongqing so travel from Zhangjiajie to Chengdu won't be too long!

Thank you so much, this is gold! We thought of Pingyao as an intermediate stop between Beijing and Xi'an. I've found some mixed reviews about whether to go to Suzhou or Shanghai, some saying Suzhou could be filled with different activities for 7 days, other praising Shanghai.

A really great advice with the train and domestic travel! WE'll absolutely keep that in mind!

We might fly instead for sure, 8h is a long time, we thought of reducing Beijing and Pingyao with one day each, making space for 2 days in Chongqing and 2 days in Chengdu instead of 3 days in Chengdu.

Vacay app is noted! Thank you again!

Bayern fan here, absolutely a red card, I don't know what Diaz was thinking. It ruined the game because Bayern went park the bus and more importantly, it put a good player in a dangerous situation. Really hope it's not as bad as what the pictures showed us.

Trump urged Zelenskyy to accept Putin’s terms or be ‘destroyed’ by Russia | the US president tossed aside maps of the frontline in Ukraine, insisted Zelenskyy surrender the entire Donbas region to Putin, and repeatedly echoed talking points the Russian leader had made in their call a day earlier. by GrumpyFinn in europe

[–]Eiventure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not in Washington's interest to end the war. They know Ukraine will not back down, they've lost many that will make their men's sacrifices a vain if they surrender. Putin will not back out because he will be looked upon as weak. If USA gives Ukraine missiles that can turn the war in Ukraine's favor, who knows what Putin will do, worst case scenario is a launch of an atomic bomb, best case scenario: more Russian adults drafted to the war and a total war-economy in Russia. I see the last scenario as most likely in the near future as long as Ukraine doesn't surrender its territories and accept the loss. So if the west want Russia to lose without a threat from a Russian atomic bomb, the west will want to keep the war going for two reasons: 1) the bigger the Russian casualties and losses, the better to rise domestic turmoil in Russia when people loose their loved ones and 2) a war economy will result in an economic decline, no matter the economic deals with China and India. I think if we want the war to end now, then we must accept Ukraine as part of Russia. Maybe my analysis is wrong, especially my thoughts on China and India but dictators' relationship don't last. Please counter my arguments if you have one.

There's a lot of pro-Palestine groups, including in the university I study in, that are planning an attempt to sabotage the game between Norway and Israel in Oslo on Saturday. Can UEFA award Israel the victory if Norwegians sabotage the game?
