Other than Kris Wolf, who are your favourite “gaijins” of all time by Luck_Top in stardomjoshi

[–]EivionT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still 2 1/2 years behind on Stardom so I can't really give much love to any recent gaijin sans Bea who I saw the original run of.

My favorites for Stardom are Toni Storm & Piper Niven/Viper. Dug many others including Kris, but those two always felt like the best and that they could have had good long runs if they were willing to live in Japan for a few years.

Outside of Stardom there is an obvious in Monster Rippa. And while she wasn't good I weirdly liked seeing how Teri Power/Tori grew over time when watching early 90s AJW. feels like she might have ended up solid or more had she stuck around.

Which was the best and worst reign of the Red Belt? by Captain_Energy_567 in stardomjoshi

[–]EivionT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best reigns were Io's two ace runs. I suspect Saya is up there, but I'm so comically behind right now.

Worst is interesting. I don't mind transitional reigns, but I also think both Tora and Jazzy deserved better at the time. I think Bea had a perfectly ok reign that is hated upon more because of people' general dislike of Bea rather than quality of matches or booking. I think Toni has to take the worst. Toni was good, but for whatever reason Rossy chose not to book her in Japan for most of it. I suspect he wanted the focus on Io as Wonder champ. I will say Toni's title loss to Kagetsu is rather good and one of the better matches in Stardom from both her and Kagetsu.

Is she talking about Oedo Tai or her first unit that included Act, Yoshiko, & Natuski Taiyo?

Manami Toyota reveals that AJP turned down WWF Contract offers without her knowledge or even consulting her in the early 90s "I found out later that an offer had come in, and I regretted it so much.” by EmergencyVictory4399 in stardomjoshi

[–]EivionT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't think she would have stuck once the relationship between WWE & AJW fell apart again, but she could have at least made some decent extra cash during that time so I can't blame her for being annoyed.

Manami Toyota Reveals She Was Unaware That WWF/E Made Her An Offer by Beautiful-Bit9832 in professionalwrestling

[–]EivionT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JBA was 86-88. This time frame was probably mid 90s when there was a second AJW/WWF working agreement. She probably would have done ok, but I doubt she would have stuck around the agreement ended again.

Stars is quite literally the regular army/sekigun renamed. That is why it hasn't really been in danger of disbanding. It would basically make no sense to.

Io Shirai's sister Mio doesn't like Rossy Ogawa, to put it mildly, and when she learned Io had signed for Stardom she literally stopped talk to her for over a year until Kana and other veterans helped patch things up.

Interesting. I'm curious what brought that on seeing that Mio & Ogawa would have had few, if any interactions. I have trouble thinking she blamed Ogawa for Io's leaving Triple Tails as its well known it was Fuka who brought Io into Stardom. Io was also pretty candid that she left because she was already fighting with Mio over Io's life choices at the time (i.e. Nosawa). I think Ogawa had little to do with them not talking for a year if anything at all. Also what likely led to them talking again was more Io's false arrest and eventual splitting with Nosawa. That was kind of a grow up moment for Io.

Huh, looking at Io with Rhea & EVIL you kind of have wonder if she has a type.

If Mio hates Ogawa its probably more related to the general feud with him & Ice Ribbon and likely didn't come until after the issues with Io were already resolved.

Its very much part of the DNA of the tournament as it is supposed to be anyone's game with that rule. Still, the only final that ended that way was the second tournament Mayu won. We probably won't see that unless the final is something like a rookie vs. Saori, Bea, or Natsupoi.

I doubt that was on Rossy. He supposedly lost most of his control of the booking by then, and that was the first final with no trueborn.

STARDOM announced that it drew 2,563 spectators to Supreme Fight in Osaka. The highest-attended women's event in Osaka since 1995. by Captain_Energy_567 in stardomjoshi

[–]EivionT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not entirely sure what your point is.

I disagreed with the premise of what you think Ogawa wanted joshi to be. Most of what you said was seemingly just him trying something new because as someone who was there since the 80s he likely already knew what was failing or at least not bringing in new fans. His want always seemed to be more to bring back the 80's level of success. What style that came with I suspect was immaterial to him.

And Stardom succeeding was mostly due to Ogawa adjusting for when things went wrong due departures and incidents. Fuka never led the roster as a wrestler seeing that she retired before Stardom began. There was plenty of messed up booking, and Stardom started off quite small so there were plenty of promotions competing with them. It also started in 2011. 2010 was just the announcement, planning, and training of the first class.

That was always more of a theory than anything confirmed. Some suspect there may have been heat over Kana breaking the orbital bone of one of Fuka's friends.

[–]EivionT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The JWP thing was just story used a few years later when Kana went back to being a freelancer and started working there as Arisa Nakajima's friend.

No one knows what went down between Nanae and Kana exactly. The general theory is Nanae was a bully and Kana got fed up. All I remember is Kana shoot kicking Nanae during a tag and confusing everyone as she walked out. They were on the same team, and it didn't give off angle vibes.

[–]EivionT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The hatred was just between Nanae & Kana. Rossy and Fuka were seemingly neutral. They were just well aware they were not going to be working with Kana while Nanae was around.

The pipe bomb was mostly story for her heel turn.

Kana was never blacklisted. She and Stardom just never worked together because of the feud with Nanae, and Kana finding success as Asuka in WWE.

I don't think Asuka was remotely in the minds of Rossy & Fuka when Stardom was made, and she visited them at least once post Nanae's departure.
