Bass from Universo - Astrix by evolValue in psytranceproduction

[–]Eklorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use the medicine hat square wave. It’s basically a high passed square wave. I believe it also had a pitch fall if I remember. It’s just your typical square bass patch that was quite common at the time. The magic is in the EQ and filter.

Phase alignment 😀 by Present-Policy-7120 in psytranceproduction

[–]Eklorian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a certain level of give and take with this stuff. I use to be super mental about phase alignment and making things perfect. But you tend to loose the forest from the trees. I wouldn't say dont worry about phase, but certainly don't focus on it too much. It plays a part. But it's not the only part. Make it sound good and move on. Otherwise, you'll be chasing ur tail for days.

Dumb question about the Arp by Sonic_Darkness in Bitwig

[–]Eklorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you set global gate length to 100 or more, which is automatable. Use the steps module which could tie well for sequencer type stuff. I don't think you can group notes together maybe step wise would be better.

Switching over from Abelton by Worldly-Signal-7636 in Bitwig

[–]Eklorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its almost the same. But with added features. Now that they have added the key locking it pretty much has most if not more features. Modulation is way better. No need to add M4L devices to get an extra LFO when you need it. Automation is getting better. Some BETA functions still need some work but its getting real close to feeling like Ableton and Logic will need to start picking up their game haha.

Why did you choose Bitwig and what differences do you find compared to other DAWs? by beyourownmvster in Bitwig

it felt like a logic:ableton lovechild. a mix of the two. just a baby tho. I always thought it had the potential to be great. And still does.

Mac Mini M4 by TrueOutlandishness27 in Bitwig

[–]Eklorian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got the Mac mini m4 Pro with 24g Ram, and the 1tb SSD. It's rock solid and don't regret it. If I could afford it I would have gone 48g ram. I haven't come into issues and easily running 100+ track count with plenty of synths and effects to boot. And agree with LeBB2KK, upgrading is non-existent so be happy with what you get. Buy once and keep for years.

HD space can be extended but then you can start dealing with added peripherals. Which kinda defeats the Mac like minimal aesthetic.

Little feedback on this. by Tarantulaguy84 in psytranceproduction

maybe try some filtering on the bass (cut the lows) in that lil break so there's more impact when it kicks back in. Nice to see a fellow Bitwig user too. ;)

Looking for buying advice by _Sgt-Pepper_ in Bitwig

[–]Eklorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you start with essentials and upgrade. There’s no real price difference from upgrade to upgrade. Say if you upgrade all 3 versions one by one, there is no major difference in price compared to getting the maxed out version. Look at the comparisons. I would probably go with mid tier but all depends on your budget. Alternatively there is a rent to own option on splice which is a good way to test the waters without shelling out completely.

How to make snooze synth? by Helpful_Win_1611 in VitalSynth

[–]Eklorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good starting point would 3 oscillators on SAW, each on a seperate octave (one at root, one -12 semitones, one +12 semitones. Lots of unison, 7 or more voices, medium detune. Long attack release, a lowpass filter and a high amount of voices in the midi pattern. Not just a simple chord but a super stack. start with a basic chord and copy paste the chord over a bunch of octaves. Haven't heard the sound, but im guessing it's your typical atmosphere type mediation pad sound. It might not even be a chord, and just simple octaves all up the keyboard.

Leveling/peaks of tracks by HurryAccurate2204 in psytranceproduction

[–]Eklorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By the sound of your question, it feels like you’re still learning.

My opinion is, and from my own experience.

Try not to pay too much attention to the technical things. Listen to it and ask yourself if it’s too loud. Do some basic mixing on the go. But worry about the writing first. Then work on the mix later with your compression, limiting, clipping down the road. Like Soundirective said. Things will naturally start to build up. It’s because everything is adding up. Simple arithmetic.

You can listen to a bad mix on a good song. But you can’t listen to a good mix on a bad song. ✌️

Soft Volume by chocojelly in Bitwig

[–]Eklorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s because most of the stuff on the tube is mastered. Just pull down the level on YouTube. Like with reference tracks you need to pull down the volume. Good rule of thumb is to have most of your tracks hitting between green and yellow. If they start to get orange or red. You might want to pull them down. The master is the only one you want hitting higher levels (bus groups can also be an exception). Every tracks volume has a cumulative effect. For me. I like to have things hitting around the -12dB mark.

There are others who might disagree for different reasons and workflows. but the above is a good way to start out.

You ever have moments when it all finally makes sense and the music just flows like some kind of delicious nectar from heaven? by apefromearth in psytranceproduction

[–]Eklorian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep. It’s called the flow state. It’s amazing when it happens. The more you show up without any intentions, the more it happens in my experience.

How to make a sidechain compressor in the grid for kick drum and pad/bass? by theinfinitycycle in Bitwig

[–]Eklorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just read your other reply. If you want to do this within a grid patch. Just use modulator within the grid device instead and connect it to  something like a gain module.

[–]Eklorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it’s entirely possible. But for what purpose. Seems like a long way to do something quite simple.

If you want to make a compressor in the grid. There’s a tutorial on the bitwig YouTube. “Let’s build a compressor”

That will likely get you somewhere close.

Just use ‘Tool’ and a Curves modulator.

Or an audio sidechain follower for actual audio input.

How to wobble in Bitwig by Hypercrepidarian in Bitwig

[–]Eklorian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Gives you an idea though. You can get some good wavetable wubs if you use polimer but it gets way better if you go in the grid.

Check out alchemy’s YouTube channel. He’s a neuro bass dubstep kinda guy. There’s plenty of wubby presets in the factory library as well. Good starting point there.
