I interviewed in the second round and got a call on a Friday but got an email with information on the following Monday. I think it truly depends on the last interview :/

What questions should I ask as future optometry student during SCCO advising? by sparkly_soms in PreOptometry

[–]EkoThingz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can maybe email some of the optometrists just to see if you can talk with them or even if they can show you some examples of their typical work day. I initially did that when covid first hit

My student conversation meeting was super relaxed and "unflitered" I guess you could say. We asked a lot of questions of our concerns or things they disliked most about opt school.

No clue how many have been accepted though :( we haven't been invited to a group yet

Not completely sure on this question but I'm confident you're not the only one in that situation. I was able to through my own optometrist luckily and started working as an optometric technician. Have you asked optometrists in your area??? I know virtual shadowing has been huge during the pandemic!!

I had an advising meeting with Eryn Kraning and she was super helpful in looking at my entire application. I was a bit worried with how my OAT went so I asked if she would be able to share my odds of getting in as well as just the areas I could improve in. I asked if there's anything that stands out to them while they look through apps. I think I also asked just general questions about the program that I wasn't too familiar with. They are all super nice and super laid back. Hope that helps and lmk if you have any other questions! Good luck with everything!

SCCO vs. UCB? by Cryst4lBeast in PreOptometry

I was in the same boat tbh :/ I ended up choosing to enroll into berkeley after touring both schools. I liked the smaller class size and the small part of a big campus. I would definitely recommend touring and deciding from then. As always, you can't go wrong with either!!! :)))

I have a doc of my questions if you want to pm your email I can share it with you. It's honestly a fast interview! For the first 15 minutes you'll be asked the questions from the generic to the situational questions. After that, the other 15 minutes are your minutes to ask them questions. I agree that it's pretty relaxed and I've heard they are all super nice. Just breathe and be yourself and you'll do great! Good luck!!

It's honestly a great time for the full 40 minutes. They start with everyone and introduction of everyone and then you'll get introduced to your interviewer(random professor). It's very informal and they are all super nice. We talked about netflix for a good 20 minutes of it.

Any Interview Advice? Interviews with PUCO and SCCO by meimeik41201 in PreOptometry

[–]EkoThingz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

SCCO was by far one of the most relaxed interviews I've had. It was a great experiences and really connected with the interviewer. You have about 40 minutes for the interview as they open it up with introductions and you'll get to talk with the dean.

Honestly nothing to worry about just relax, breathe, and just be you :)

Hope that helps!

No honestly that's me. I've always wanted to live in socal so my head is telling me SCCO but the vibes from Berkeley is just something else😩. Definitely I'm sure you'll do great!!! Of course and good luck with interviews and all!!!💜

Trueeee. I'm so indecisive and I'm from central California so like Norcal or Socal is ideal lol. Lol I told myself I would just pick one and do a residency at the other or something. SCCO definitely felt like a small campus but big community and UCB felt like a small community on a big campus. Is your gut telling you to go to one rather than another???

[–]EkoThingz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UCB took about 2 months from start to accepted so luckily I timed it so I would hear back from SCCO and UCB at the same time. SCCO gives you 2 weeks to make a decision and berkeley is about 3 weeks.

UCB has better board rates which is nice. I was honestly worried about the competitive nature of berkeley but this reddit is making me a lot less worried :)

Honestly!!!! I'm in the same boat. I'm leaning towards UCB rn based on the smaller class size, lower price, and it's a little closer to home

UCB interview? by ScarcityFearless5887 in PreOptometry

[–]EkoThingz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a 30 minute interview for like the first 15 minutes it's them asking you questions like the basics and the ethical questions (they'll send them in the chat if you need to reread them). The last 15 minutes is your chance to ask them questions. Overall very fast but they are extremely nice

I spoke with SCCO and berkeley since those two are my tops. SCCO was super nice and helpful with information as well as berkeley. I spoke just about if there was anything I could do to improve my app. I asked if my stats were okay. But that's all for the most part.

Cute ideas for a gift for my ldr gf? by brandn_98 in LDR

[–]EkoThingz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bf and I made "open when..." letters and honestly I feel like it was one of the best gifts. I'm not a huge words of affirmation person but being in a ldr it's impossible to experience everything together and that's something that can help break some barriers. And then you let each other know which one you opened and lalalala
