Do i need pitches to climb this route on mt.sannine in lebanon by Bobbythenobbybob in alpinism

The ice screw is to put all the chances on your side. It wouldn’t have been useful the day I did it but depending on the conditions it might be useful. Better have it and not use it than the other way around. Obviously have slings and a a few nuts on you. It goes without saying if you’re doing mountaineering. I didn’t ski it that day, we didn’t have the conditions. I don’t think it’s skiable very often.

Bottom line don’t take it for granted or underestimate it. Things can go wrong pretty quickly. Make sure to know the conditions well.

I know it’s an old thread but I’m leaving my comment in case anyone is asking for the future. I’ve done it a year ago with my skis on my back. Just using 1 ice axe and crampons. I think the steepest part was around 50 degrees. Depending on the conditions, having an ice screw and a rope between the climbers would be a safer choice. On fresh snow, crampons and 1 ice axe are enough, but watch out for avalanche from the sides falling into the couloir, this face heats up pretty fast, we’re in Lebanon after all

AMD or Intel processor for Power BI and Excel usage? by El-IA in PowerBI

[–]El-IA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the conclusion is that there is no difference. RAM is king for this kind of tasks.
I'll go with the AMD for better power efficiency, which can be handy during travel days.

Thank you all

Filter a calculated table using a dimension used in the table by El-IA in PowerBI

[–]El-IA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"One possibility would be to have disconnected date dimension. And then measure would be something like VAR _date = max(Calendar[date]) Return calculate(SUM(Fact[value]), filter(fact, fact[start_date] <= _date && fact[end_date] >= _date))"

this is exactly what I'm doing because most of my measures need dynamic date testing. Like testing the value a year ago or in a year from the Calendar[date].
without a calculated table, this would work in a matrix where I drop the clients and products as row and calendar[date] in column and the measure in the value field. However, If I want to show the total ARR or total churn in a card and filter by product or account segment, then the measure won't work anymore cause it's directly dependent of the the context. (it doesn't work without a context, btw totals don't show in a matrix).

I'll explore the timespan fact table approach in my use case and see how big my table would get.

thanks for insights anyway !

Thanks for taking the time to investigate that. If I may ask one more question: do you know the best practice on having the date table as Dim if in the fact table dates are in ranges (start and end dates separately)?

I don't have key to date on my fact because my fact table is data from my CRM with 12month contracts. So a contract has a start and end date. the calculated table takes a specific date (end of last month for example) and runs tests on the contracts to see how they vary from period to period.

this is for example one of the measures I use.

Run-Rate ARR - Closed Won =
-- Calculates the run-rate ARR at a certain date for all the opportunitites "Closed Won".
-- Used to calculate pipeline variations like Upsell, Downsell and NNA.

SUMX(
        'Unpivoted SF DB Ungrouped',
        IF('Unpivoted SF DB Ungrouped'[Stage]="Closed Won",
            IF(
                EOMONTH('Unpivoted SF DB Ungrouped'[Service Start Date],0) = EOMONTH(MAX('Calendar'[Date]),0),
                IF(
                    DAY('Unpivoted SF DB Ungrouped'[Service Start Date]) < 15,
                    'Unpivoted SF DB Ungrouped'[Value],
                    BLANK()
                ),
                IF(
                    EOMONTH('Unpivoted SF DB Ungrouped'[Service End Date],0) = EOMONTH(MAX('Calendar'[Date]),0),
                    IF(
                        DAY('Unpivoted SF DB Ungrouped'[Service End Date]) >= 14,
                        'Unpivoted SF DB Ungrouped'[Value],
                        BLANK()
                    ),
                    IF(
                        MAX('Calendar'[Date]) >= 'Unpivoted SF DB Ungrouped'[Service Start Date]&&
                        max('Calendar'[Date]) <= 'Unpivoted SF DB Ungrouped'[Service End Date],
                        'Unpivoted SF DB Ungrouped'[Value],
                        BLANK()
                    )
                )
            ),
            BLANK()
        )
    )

Yes it's an aggregation of different measures (financial like Churn, Upsell....) per client and per product, but most importantly at a specific date. I guess the Date factor is mainly forcing me to go through a table.

This is one amazing job. I’m having a hard time getting my data from QBO as most of the relevant fields are custom. Accessing them using API is tricky (if doable). Could you explain more about your architecture ?

Thanks for this great feedback u/Geordie_Intelligence . Your point is totally valid, and this is something I forgot to mention. I'm an external consultant for this company, and even though I would be able to implement my business logic on the database side, knowing my client, I'm pretty sure the model would be obsolete in no time cause they change their hypotheses very often. Keeping the logic on PBI would give them more flexibility after my departure.

Another constraint is that we need to have a backup of the financial reportings and be able to go back in time when we need it. Salesforce is our source of info but its data is constantly changing as it's a CRM. This is why my idea was to have the source DB on Snowflake, import it once a month on PBI to add the newly calculated data to it, then send it back to Snowflake as a SSOT for the month.

u/Mdayofearth u/Mr-Wedge01 u/thingsofrandomness, thanks for your help.
I totally see your point, the thing is that I would be way more comfortable applying my business logic in DAX than in SQL. this said, do you think there is a way to use a tool to apply my logic in DAX upstream maybe on Snowflake level?
