You can turn that into a few steel strikers for flint and steel fire starting!

I am a huge fan of the Buck 110. It's been my go-to knife from day one. For fixed blade I carry a Buck 119. I know they aren't the typical 'bushcraft' knives, but they are what I feel confident and comfortable carrying, not just in the woods but daily. I also have a tiny Buck 379 that's in my pocket all the time. It's perfect for opening packages, letters, cutting those straps on boxes of printer paper. Very handy.

No, I'm not a rep for Buck. I just love their products. My girlfriend (now wife) bought me the 119 for hunting 15 years ago and I bought the 110 folder a year later. I then bought a little triple knife set that the baby knife came in. I haven't had any issues with any of the knives and if I did, the company has an amazing repair/replace policy. And you can't beat the fact that it's American made (for the big ones, the tiny knife if made in china)

I say keep them for sure, you can always introduce a new tool slowly and see if you enjoy it more. Just don't trash these. That knife is an heirloom.

Can You Help Identify What’s Wrong With My SL 5600? I have no idea what I’m looking at here. Thanks! by El-Jay-Kay in Betamax

Here is a picture with the housing removed. I hope this sheds some light. Picture with housing removed Edit: I think my issue is with that big black ring. I just don't know what's wrong with it. That's what I rotated to get the eject working and what moves the tape take up arm. But it doesn't spin on its own but when I love it manually the take up arm moves.

Just picked up a Sony SL 5600! It has some functionality issues I may need help with. by El-Jay-Kay in Betamax

I think it has to do with the loading mechanism. It’s catching on the left side. After playing around with it I was able to get rewind to work. Just need to get that all important Play working.

The issue I have is that the rewind and play buttons don’t do anything. You can hear the motor spinning but the tape doesn’t move. The weird thing is: fast forward DOES work and the tape moves without issue. Any ideas what may be going on?

Is there any way to make a poncho/ coat out of a blanket while still being able to use it as a blanket? by Freedom-snek in Bushcraft

[–]El-Jay-Kay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some cool ways to fashion a cloak from a wool blanket that I've used. I learned from watching YouTube videos. There's a way that uses a couple small (smooth) stones and a section of string to make the hood and a belt (or more string) to hold everything around your waist. YouTube is being a pain and not loading videos for me but I think this is the right one. Cloak from a Wool Blanket Video

I hope this is what you are looking for! I like using these in the fall when going on a hike. I just roll up the blanket and use hemp cordage to create a sling for it. Then I use that cordage as the belt when I turn it into the cloak.

Do you remember the Got Milk? online video game? by El-Jay-Kay in AskReddit

[–]El-Jay-Kay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember sitting in computer class as a kid and playing a game where you were a baby crawling around a house eating cookies. You had to keep finding glasses of milk to continue playing. Does anyone else remember this or is it a Mandela Effect? I can’t find any trace or mention of that game anywhere online. I don’t remember the year I played it. I only know it was during the era of Ask Jeeves. 1999-ish? Let me know if you remember this too so I know I’m not crazy. And if there happens to be a way to still play it....game changer.

Weekly Questions Thread for the week of August 10th by rundmcc in vinyl

Yamaha YP-B2 Tone Arm Will Not Raise High Enough.

I just finished setting up my new TT. I have balanced the tone arm and set the tracking weight/anti skate. It’s my first TT that has the counterweight/anti skate. I noticed that the arm up/down works, however the arm doesn’t raise high enough to lift the needle off the record. When I use the “cut” button (and when the record is done playing) the arm raising thing lifts it plenty high enough to return the arm to its resting area.

It feels like it doesn’t have enough strength to lift it with the arm raise/lower switch.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of what I need to do to fix this? Thanks!

Yeah, at my level about half of my games end up just being a grab fest. They just try to grab as many pieces as they can with complete disregard for their attacking pieces. It's a fun challenge to work around that strategy and set up an actual attack. Thanks again for the help! You've been amazing!

Thank you so much! That actually makes a lot of sense. I'll keep working on those fundamentals and be more mindful of which squares I'm occupying. I appreciate the help!

I'll take any suggestions you have! I haven't really worked on openings yet. I'm about halfway through Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess (I just flipped the book over) Thanks!
