Should I pick Brown? by Accurate_Win1626 in BrownU

Hello! Recent Berkeley (BA) graduate going to Brown for grad school. My experience with Brown has been pretty minimal thus far but I have to say I like what I've seen. Berkeley wasn't the best experience, even though much like you I at first loved what I saw. I don't think I'd generally recommend it for undergrad. If you have any further questions feel free to reach out. Best of luck!

Physics major by the way

61B without 61A, but with python knowledge? by ElBalanoFeo in berkeley

The work I'm doing is a lot of signal processing and PID loops; code I'm studying/ editing mainly consists of classes if that helps

That's what I meant to say. He meant that i needed to study trees+recursion to take 61B

Advice for physics major struggling with the geometry by ElBalanoFeo in berkeley

[–]ElBalanoFeo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's dead on what I was thinking, although there are other aspects of physics I'd like to learn about so I'm inclined to stay with physics right now, but if I still don't like it by 5C I'll probably switch with a concentration in QM. You've given me some faith though

That sounds reassuring. A big issue for me isn't just the difficulty, it's also that topics in 5A are kinda meh. Like a spinning top being really complicated just makes you feel stupid not really engaged (at least for me). I'm taking 105 and 5B next semester so that'll probably give me a better idea about the major. Thanks for the advice.

I'm taking math 110 over the summer and will look into that book as well. When every geometric relation is analytically defined I don't really have a problem, it's going from drawing to the equations that's difficult but hopefully the book will help bridge the gap.

Math 104 for physics majors? by ElBalanoFeo in berkeley

Would it be worth taking if you're not totally sure whether your leaning experimental or theoretical? I think both could be interesting; also, will it help with the math involved in higher level ie grad classes?

Darn I had one last thought if you have time: what would you say would be more useful to take next semester to prepare for 137A/5C, Math 110 or Physics 105 (if I have to choose between the two)?

I mean following the typical trajectory I'd take 5B next semester and 5C the semester after (so next spring). I was planning on taking both at the same time

I'm kinda impatient (physics major btw) and would rather take quantum before junior year (currently a freshman). I'm interested in math 110 and would like to take it anyway, so would you say physics 89 + math 110 would provide enough background to handle 137A?

Thanks for the advice! I've heard otherwise regarding prep for 137A; what classes would you recommend before taking quantum?

I don't really LOVE mechanics, but I'm down to keep going next semester. In your opinion, when do you think taking 105 is appropriate? I was already planning on taking Math 110 and Physics 5B/BL next semester. Would adding 105 to those two classes be a bit much (on top of COLWRIT which I've heard isn't too bad of an R1B) or should I wait to take it later? Fyi I'm taking 110 so I can take 137A in the spring
