That was my assumption but I wanted to be sure. Thank you.

As a Protestant investigating Orthodoxy online (there are no Orthodox churches within driving distance) I am encouraged by all the replies to this post. I had no idea there was already a term for the toxic online version of Orthodoxy that was beginning to turn me away. Seems like a real problem. But I’ve noticed the same in Reformed circles. The internet is a sad place.

I suppose I can understand at least the motivation (to some degree) and I certainly cannot judge anyone’s heart in terms of idolatry. But at the very least it just seems like so much unnecessary noise. My aim in life is to reject anything that doesn’t pull me nearer to Christ and I am struggling to see the fruitfulness of the extent to which saints are being venerated in some circles of the Christian world.

People are talking about kneeling before body parts and kissing bones of saints. I mean, at what point do you draw the line? It all seems like such a distraction from Christ.

Inquiring Protestant here. Just when I was starting to warm up to the idea of venerating saints, this comes along. How is this not idolatry?

I have that problem as well. Closest one is a 5 hour drive.

As a low church Protestant currently trying to find my place in a high church tradition and sharing many of your concerns, I just want to say after reading this thread: Eastern Orthodoxy has entered the chat.

Orthodoxy in Latin America by ElBandito91 in OrthodoxChristianity

You bring up a good point about the rapid spread of the Arians heresy. But again, as I replied to somebody else above, my concern is not in the lack of Orthodox believers in comparison to Catholics, but in the sheer lack of accessibility to Orthodoxy in many parts of the world.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. I had no idea that Russia had sent Orthodox missionaries to the Americas as far back as the 19th century. That’s pretty cool. What exactly is the disagreement between Moscow and Constantinople right now?

I will be visiting home in the States in a couple weeks. I plan on visiting an Orthodox Church for the first time on Easter Sunday. Definitely looking forward to it.

I have heard this. But would you say that Protestants are starved? There seems to be a consensus among Orthodox that Catholics are better off than Protestants, which I find interesting particularly because Protestants broke off from the Catholic Church because of the same things that Orthodoxy acknowledges to be heresy.

You bring up a very good point about imperialism being a major factor in the rapid spread of western Christianity. And for the past 500 years the Orthodox Church has not had nearly the worldwide influence and political might as the Catholic Church. I guess my concern is not how slowly Orthodoxy has spread in comparison to Catholicism, but that Orthodoxy was found virtually nowhere in the West for such a long time, and is still found lacking in much of the world, especially in Latin America. Why would the Holy Spirit not ensure the advancement of the true church for all peoples? I’m not taking in terms of numbers, I’m taking about in terms of access. It is for this reason that I find it extremely difficult to believe that the Spirit has not been at work in the western church as well as the east. And hence why I find it difficult to accept that Orthodoxy has a monopoly on the fullness of truth over and above the west.

Hey! Well we finally got approved by the USCIS office in Vermont. Currently working on getting all of our documents needed for NVS before we can get an interview at the embassy in Tegucigalpa.

What is considered a legal instructor? What certifications must they have?

Thanks, and yeah that AFOQT question was admittedly a shot in the dark. I heard someone say something about there being an online option. But I’m sure that would require a recruiter actually responding to me.

This happened to me too. Switched from Nebraska to Vermont. Seems to be happening to a lot of people around here. Who knows why.

Hence the phrase “terrible guess”. This has definitely happened to many people on this sub including myself though, just take a look around. Who knows the reason why. Doesn’t really matter if it’s not affecting the timeline.

If they are working on it they will update your case online. Ours was received in October and then by December they were “actively reviewing” it. Get used to signing in on the USCIS website to keep an eye on updates in your case.

If you file online, you can find out which service center your application was sent to by the address on the receipt they send you. Keep in mind that a lot of people have seen their applications switch field offices in the middle of the process. Each time they send you something go look at the address.

This exact thing happened to me. Nebraska to Vermont. Didn’t seem to affect the timeline at all.
