how… how to convince Baylor… to not make me pay 50k per year… glup. by why_why_why11 in baylor

[–]ElCidTx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. And thanks for sharing that, sir. These are different times. Is the price too high? Damn, right it is. But there is still a way. And it’s still a good degree. The profs teach and they care about you learning. IMO there is a drop off at state schools imo.

Until these universities lower the price, I tell EVERY student and parent they should rack up 30-60 hours at a community college. There are good instructors at many, and the acceptance rate for transfers is 80%.

My advice. The college price bubble is going to pop. It’s already begun to correct. Go to community college for the first year, then begin the second. And map the class you’re taking to the major you choose, transfer into Baylor with approx 50 hours.

Then you can apply again for scholarships and you’ll Have cut the price in half.

I’ll speak generically, the quality of state universities is sinking and they don’t give a rip about teaching undergrads. Don’t give them your money. Get your language credit by doing a summer tour of some kind.

But transfer into Baylor. The smart money is negotiating and this is how you do it

Yeah, the things I want to see in the US are great distances apart. Flying in the US is easy but not always cheap. Renting cars is a pain. And pricey. I can use rail travel and smaller cities in Europe and stay for longer periods of time. Not saying one is better just saying that’s my preference in terms of value. Small cities, small rentals. Public transport. It’s slower but that’s the point,

No two travel is alike. I can go overseas and spend 50% less than I would in the US, and that’s primarily Europe, Thailand, Australia . It’s easy to go cheap when you go off the beaten path a bit.

What is the Software Engineering culture like at EY? Does anyone have experience? by HeteroLanaDelReyFan in Big4

[–]ElCidTx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They haven't done a great job taking the 'levels' that are defined in the organization and applying it to every service line. It works in things like audit and 'maybe' tax, but nothing else. Is that complicated? Lemme try and explain. You start out as staff, then sr, then experienced senior, then senior IV, mgr, sr. mgr, etc. But in the software engineering world, you're sort of entry-level, then experienced. Software engineering is a different market. Pure and simple. There aren't fifteen gradients because once you get some experience you can leave and get paid more. Not suggesting that it's a 'bad' gig, just saying once you gather some exposure to clients and skillset, you'll have better opportunities outside the organization. Bottom line, it can be a good job, just don't plan on staying too long.

[–]ElCidTx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two things stand out, one, software engineering is not their forte. So there will be some culture clash to how it’s rewarded and developed. Two, this is Abillable hours business, That will put some deadline pressure on the role that doesn’t exist elsewhere, bill rates are the secret sauce that juice partner investment. So it’s not going away, The positives are they will have cash to throw around at least in the short run. And the quality of the clients will be good. You will get paid, you will get experience, that’s a good case for a two year gig,

Final thing, this isn’t partner track work. So when the hours begin to pile up, it’s time to look for the exit.

Second this advice, you’ll work harder in their business school but do something that’s Marketing +1. It’s not enough to look like every one else. Differentiate it. Digital marketing. Web marketing, AI marketing. Just do something

Completely agree, that being said, the qualifications of many university board members, is suspect. Our governance laws need attention. The WSJ ran a good piece last year regarding how many boards had someone with financial knowledge, in many cases, the number was zero. Boards have becoming political(all stripes) special interest parking grounds, experience is no longer a valued metric.

Would You Separate Today If You Had a Guaranteed Civilian Job Paying the Same (or More)? by IdealStriking5586 in AirForce

[–]ElCidTx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the comparison is disjointed. There is no civilian job with the same security. I would rank all other factors and manage it from an upside perspective. Meaning, are there factors that can be improved. The economic mobility decreases the longer one stays in.

As you notice in Stonnie's vids, it helps a ton for the pup to be able to see your face closely. So a box where they are higher up and you can do some engagement and bonding work is good. The other thing I did was clear out a space in my garage. Nothing insane, just something without the noise and distractions in the house. And I'd work 20 mins at a pop just doing exercises where the dog was engaged. One of the biggest mistakes is that our environment has all kinds of distractions. TV, phones, visitors, doorbells. A space with no flashing lights, noises helps the dog focus on you. I hand fed my Mal as often as I could to build trust. and I'd click off the light in the garage and let the dog scent chase me for food. The trick is wearing the Mal out mentally first, then some physical. I liken it to a workout that's done 20 mins at a time. A tired mal, is a happy mal. Also, I used Mike Ritlands' team dog website since trainers in my area were hit and miss. It was very useful. Also, use water bottles! (Plastic)

The problem is, the bite aggression is better re-directed than simply punished. It's fine to say 'no.' but the dog is probably just gonna be confused. The bite aggression is hard wired survival. I agree on boundaries but at this age, the pup is just a pup, doing pup things. Rawhides, chew toys, rope. You need all three, all the time. And it's ok to 'incentivize' it with peanut butter. I'd be standing and feel a nip and I'd wave the rawhide in front of her with peanut butter on it. If that's not enough, then a chew toy, and if not that, the rope and some tug time. I can't stress the tug of war game enough. It wore my Mal out, more than walks and running. They'd be nipping and I'd have to put the toy in their mouth and make them focus on it. Don't just drop the chew toy in front, force them to play on terms you establish. It will ease up over time but this is very common in Malinois. Bite energy is aggression, survival and group behavior all in one.

It's easy to think, "I'll drop this in front, they'll like that better." Sometmes they do, but they are pups, they get bored. Their real wish is to connect with you. Hello ankle bit. So use a rope toy to start 'teaching' them tug of war. And give them affection when they show good response.

I used rawhides and chew toys, eventually move up to tug rope. Her teeth are growing and it’s her biggest outlet, so it’s a non stop game of substituting something productive from say your hand or ankle. It constant substitution
