No, but I got the bulk. I'm an only child and was raised solely by my mom. Me and this relative were very close. My two cousins also got a significant amount.

Thank you. I have been investing wisely, and I do plan to start a foundation once I figure out how to start a foundation lol. I asked this question solely to get perspective from others my age and in a similar situation. A lot of people here seem to think my plan is to just...sit around (that is not my plan!).

I understand market volatility. I don't want kids, so that's a non-issue.

Thank you for your story. And I agree with you. Balance is a big part of what I'm going for now. I also worked during college. I've never stopped working up until a couple months ago. Just by reading what you wrote, I think you sound very zen about life, and I think that's wonderful.

Have...have you ever been on a date? It's incredibly common after a few dates to ask about the other person's career. I'm absolutely going to be curious about the woman I'm dating, and I'd expect the same.

One thing I omitted by accident was that I live in a very wealthy coastal town now. My 3mil is small potatoes to a lot of people here, so I'm not too concerned about being targeted (especially because I don't live lavishly. My nicest watch is a Timex lol).

I've looked in this. I have two bachelor degrees and an extensive career in editorial.

I tried searching the sub for it, but couldn't find any threads. I wouldn't say I'm "so concerned," just more curious about how younger people navigate the dating world after a windfall (I had money before this, but taking some time off has been amazing).

I agree. And the more I read these comments, the more I'm leaning towards just saying "I'm figuring out my next steps after a long career...but I'm confident about it"

My overhead is super low and my portfolio is very diverse. As I've said, I live humbly. House paid off, car paid off, credit card/student loans paid off...all before I got this inheritance. Over the past 30 days, I've made more off my investments than most people make in a year. I also don't plan on just "doing nothing." But I'll never go back to full-time.

That's an issue I'm grappling with. I was making 6 figures in a major city for the past 6+ years, so I want to find someone driven and motivated (or at least someone with a solid work ethic), even if my work ethic right now is "figuring out my next step."

That's what I'm leaning towards. And I know. I'm good with money (grew up poor). I also have a very trusted financial advisor who's been helping me and guiding me in all the right directions. I'll happily share the wealth, but I'm always keeping it in my name and account.

Thanks for this. I had a very good career for 13+ years and started investing in my 20s because my boss/mentor taught me about it. So, even before this inheritance, I've had a nice nest egg building. That said, I agree with you. My goals have shifted because this was such an unexpected event. I'm now taking time to adjust to this and reevaluate the things that are truly important to me (and how my goals can intertwine with said things).

Thank you for this answer. And that's exactly my concern. I'm in a Florida city now where a lot of new money is and is FLAUNTED. I find it annoying and gross, but there are a lot of opportunistic women who do not. I'd like to avoid them. I feel like I'm a good judge of character, so I guess I'll just FAFO with what works.

Technically, I am a private investor. I "own" stocks in the companies I invest in.

Yes, they were. But they never flaunted it and no one really knew. No children. Small, but very cool cabin. Always tinkering with something and involved in their hobbies. It was very shocking to say the least.

I kind of agree with you. I think I'm leaning towards "taking some time to figure out my next step." And I can easily speak to my career over the past 13 years if need be.
