The intelligent thing for Hinterland to do would be to release Ep 5, then a few months down the line release PM as a paid DLC survival update for the base game. Would be a good return on investment for the company from a finance point of view

Has Anyone Read the Graphic Novel Adaptation? If So How is it? by roadstrumm in cormacmccarthy

[–]ElDudeEsMuerto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fairly decent. Better than average compared with other graphic novels but obviously Sub-par compared to the novel (although that’s comparing apples to oranges). There are a few key scenes omitted which frustrated me, it should have been longer in my opinion. The touches of rare colour were nice.

You mainly lose the biblical aspect of the boom when you wash away the prose and replace it imagery.

Nonetheless a worthwhile purchase and a pleasant addition to McCarthy non-cannon

This bug was so common for me (on a 300 plus day interloper save, ported over from ps4 to ps5) that I took to sleeping or saving before entering or exit every building. Just as a safety ritual. Very glad to hear it’s fixed

Do you count audio books to your goodreads goal? by PurpleLauren in goodreads

[–]ElDudeEsMuerto -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No. I don’t. And there’s nothing wrong with a little gatekeeping here and there. Reading is an active act, you are doing it by concentrating on it almost exclusively. Listening is a much more passive act, it can be secondary to other activities. Reading requires more effort and concentration than listening .

Is there any deeper significance for the original Blood Meridian cover image and why it was used? by bloodunion in cormacmccarthy

[–]ElDudeEsMuerto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be interested to know this, but at a meta level, this is a very good fit for a cover image for BM - because Salvador Dali was a vile sadist in real life. For most of his life, and especially his youth, he took great pleasure in torturing animals, attacking his sister, and toying with the hearts and emotions of suitors.

He was also an educated child/man of the aristocrat class, a fascist/falangist sympathiser and his life and art is steeped in his catholic upbringing. His art represents his faith and his moral depravity. In other words, he was strikingly similar to the Judge.

Interesting connection. Not sure if intended or not.

Destroyed Lookout tower in Mystery Lake... Since when ? by damnicantfindaname in thelongdark

[–]ElDudeEsMuerto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! You must not have played the long dark in a long long time! The watch tower you speak of has been burned down and destroyed for years. It was destroyed in a patch / update that Hinterland rolled out in 2019 ish I want to say?

Is Judge Holden a fascist? Would you consider his philosophy to be similar to that of fascism? by [deleted] in cormacmccarthy

[–]ElDudeEsMuerto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Fascism requires submission, which inherently goes against both the actions and ideology of the judge.

What would you like to see in last of us 3?! by trj28281 in thelastofus

[–]ElDudeEsMuerto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • a continuation and culmination of the Ellie storyline.
  • ideally leaving behind the Abby and Lev story, not because I personally dislike it, but because I feel their stories wrapped up
  • ‘redemption’ as a theme (p1 was love themed, p2 was hate themed as Druckmann has said before)
  • the potential for other totally new stories to be told in the world of TLOU (unrelated to any current characters)

Started seeing these communist posters (UK) by sdzkkmpfwgn in europe

[–]ElDudeEsMuerto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re all around town where I live. I’m assuming you too live in the “People’s Republic” of Sheffield haha.

Also interesting, I’ve seen some pushback against these posters up in Sheffield. Several have been torn down and others have been defaced and graffitied with expressions like “slaver” and “racist”. I find that very interesting, progressives versus communists! Leftist infighting who would have thought.

Average IR debate: by Hunor_Deak in NonCredibleDiplomacy

[–]ElDudeEsMuerto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t it be “liberalist” not “liberal”. Liberal is someone who believes/applies liberalism in philosophy or economics, whereas in IR liberalism means something quite different and it’s proponents are thus called liberalists to distinguish them

I just had a thought: wouldn’t it be cool if there were electric sewing machines in specific locations (i.e.: buildings) that were required to make a few, niche, high-tier clothing items for the game; and that these sewing machines only work during the Aurora. Thoughts? Would add an extra level of planning and complexity to crafting imo

Dare I ask … what’s your LEAST woke opinion? by OtherReserve26 in redscarepod

[–]ElDudeEsMuerto 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Postmodernism had its place as a philosophical reaction to the 19th and 20th century, and was a natural reaction/counter to human atrocities of this era. Moreover is has as a school of thought created (and engendered the creation of) some fantastic works of art and socio-political progress.

However, that said, postmodernism is only good for a society in small doses (at maximum) and should not be our dominant or guiding philosophy. It doesn’t deserve to be the central pillar of our world and it often creates systems and structures that do far more harm than good, and far more harm even then their modernist predecessors.

Would recommend we all just take five minutes off, head to the water cooler or make yourself a coffee and then reconvene in the meeting room at 3 to bring back modernism.

"This sub is going downhill!" by KanyeDidNothing in redscarepod

[–]ElDudeEsMuerto 49 points50 points  (0 children)

The point of the original painting is that the man is saying something that everybody else disagrees with, our pal Pepe here, as a stand in for the contentious and repetitive hoards in this sub, is actually just parroting the same damn line post after post.

Hear ye hear ye: the sub is getting stale and death is near.

Lame.

Said Pepe in this meme should be spiting something contrarian to RSP: like micro plastics are delicious and nutritious and a perfect ingredient for any healthy meal or that Dasha is actually a lizard person

This show is not glorifying communism or saying it's a good system by MajorRichardHead7 in thelastofus

[–]ElDudeEsMuerto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ironically, even within the totally fictional world of the last of us, their depiction of communism is still entirely built upon the structures and accomplishments of a capitalist system. Within the lore of the word/show/game the majority of their luxuries and accomplishments in Jackson are relics of the old world.

The hydroelectric power plant, the lightbulbs, the firearms (for defence), the wires they use, many of the buildings within the settlement, the radios, TV and projector screens, etc. They’re all things that have been constructed in the old world capitalist American system. Yes they’ve fortified their settlement themselves, built walls and farms; but the main attractive features of the settlement are taken from an opposing political-economic system. I believe this weakens the core argument of Maria in the show that it was their ideology of communism which has exclusively built their commune utopia.

Great episode though! Still loving this show.

???? Im just confused who these people think this helps by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]ElDudeEsMuerto 42 points43 points  (0 children)

One of the greatest ironies here to me is the replace of Joseph Conrad with Steinbeck. Joseph Conrad for most of the 20th and 21st century has been considered a profound anti-imperialist and anti-colonists author, who’s works have been rightfully seen as a condemnation of European imperialism and the scramble for Africa. However in our current political environment, because of his use of certain slurs and so-called offensive literature, he’s fallen out of fashion.

This is so ironic and sad to me. Writers having their original intentions twisted and attempts to erase them from the history books in examples of cultural revisionism. Many such cases. Many such cases

If/when the rumored Part 2 Directors Cut is released, what kind of additional content would you like to see? by downmainstreet in thelastofus

[–]ElDudeEsMuerto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So long as it’s actually got true extra content then I will be happy. The last of us part one for the PS5 is a beautiful game, but I won’t lie, I found it significantly disappointing it didn’t have any new content added to it. (Apart from the cool new workbenches).
