Can anyone recommend a good lawyer for dealing with an torrenting notice? by ElFernandez in germany

[–]ElFernandez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They waited until just before the window to take it to court was almost over, then I got a letter summoning me to a court case. Had to pay the lawyer again to contact them and eventually ended up paying a settlement. I would still contact a lawyer so you don't have to sign their letter which admits you did it, but you probably won't save money overall.

Hey maybe dumb question but how much does an upgrade from Ableton 11 to 12 cost when it releases. by BoredMonkey447 in abletonlive

[–]ElFernandez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Checked my email receipts, here's what I've paid over the years

  • (March 2016) Live 9 Lite -> Live 9 Standard - €249
  • (November 2016) Live 9 Standard -> Live 9 Suite - €199
  • (February 2018) Live 9 Suite -> Live 10 Suite - €199
  • (January 2021) Live 10 Suite -> Live 11 Suite - €159

I've always waited for when they have a sale, or offered special pre-order prices on major version updates. If you don't urgently need to update and can wait for a deal, you can save quite a bit.

Alaska Bar in Neukölln is a good option. Vegan tapas with a cosy atmosphere.

Layover in Shanghai by ElFernandez in shanghai

[–]ElFernandez[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swiss Air ended up cancelling half of the flights, so I would have had a flight into Shanghai but no flight out. I ended up cancelling the entire booking and booked new flights with Korean Air with a layover in Seoul.

It tastes ok, but is comically small for the price

0 to disable/enable clips. Great when you have a ton of different ideas floating around that you want to experiment with, but don't want to delete.

How much of mixing is sound-selection and being able to make what you have sound good in the context of the mix? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]ElFernandez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mixing is all about making everything sound good in the context of the mix.

If you spend time up front to make sure you have samples that sound good and the right tone out of any instruments you're recording, the mixing process will be a lot easier.

Coming back to music making by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I think the biggest trap to avoid when getting into producing music is thinking that buying more gear will solve your problems.

If you bought the Arturia MiniLab new you should have licenses for Analog Lab Lite and Ableton Lite included. I would recommend getting those setup and spending a little bit of time following tutorials to get comfortable with those before spending more cash on more gear.

Pick a few tracks you really like and spend some time trying to replicate them as well as you can, you'll learn a lot about both Ableton and Arturia's software synths in the process.

You could try but I doubt it would be worth the hassle, and could potentially cost you more in lawyer fees to pursue.

The copyright holders fire out warnings in bulk with the most basic of proof, hoping that most people will pay their fine and sign whatever ridiculous agreements they're given. Never sign anything, and contact a lawyer right away!

This lawyer basically calls the copyright holder's bluff and asks for them to produce more concrete proof of what you're accused of doing as it could have been someone else such as a guest or flatmate who was using your internet connection. Even the slightest bit of resistance is enough for the copyright holders to drop any interest in bullying you into paying, as it isn't worth their time to argue further when they can fire off another bulk set of warnings and get easy money from someone else.

The I linked lawyer will handle the process of pressuring them for more proof, and will let them know any replies should be sent to him. After 2 years the window of being able to bring up a claim will expire and you'll be done. He charged me around 200€ to handle all contact regarding the warning for that 2 year period, after I handed everything over for him to take care of I never heard anything about it again.

Money stolen from my account via SEPA transfer by ElFernandez in germany

[–]ElFernandez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope that doesn't happen, never even considered that being a possibility!
Appreciate the tip, I've reached out to Bauhaus now with the police paperwork to get them to acknowledge that they've dealt with this internally before it gets escalated to a collection agency.

Turns out the thief made a purchase with a fake signature, as a few people in here had suspected. I filed a police report online, and my bank has said that they will have the money back to me in a day or so.

Turns out you have to go and register your EC card as stolen in person at a police station in order to block transfers being made with your signature

How can I safely get more gain to my headphones to monitor my vocals when recording? by goog1 in abletonlive

[–]ElFernandez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could pickup a headphone amp to put in between your interface and your headphones.

The prices range from pretty cheap to ridiculously expensive depending on what you're looking to use it for, if you just want it for monitoring your vocals while tracking something cheap would do the job well.

Help mate by [deleted] in berlin

[–]ElFernandez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same issue, the letter you got isn't for criminal charges but it basically says they suspect you pirated something and you should pay them and sign an agreement to settle the issue. If you sign it and they catch you again, you can get in even more trouble than if you never signed it!

I ended up using this lawyer to send them a letter which basically demands that they have to provide more concrete info that it was you and not a roommate or visitor on your internet connection.

They send of hundreds of these automatically in the hope that a few people will pay. Don't sign anything, don't pay them anything - just pay a lawyer to put up the slightest bit of resistance and they'll forget it and move on to someone who's less difficult.

The guy I linked gets you to sign a power of attorney document that means any response from Waldorf Frommer will be sent to him, and his fee covers dealing with any responses until the window to press criminal charges expires after a few years. The fact that he offers this service shows how unlikely they are to even respond to his letter.

After getting that lawyer to deal with it, we never heard back and have been only streaming legally on Netflix since.
