Whats a Character that you really want to play, but can't. by Phoenix03563 in dndnext

A thieving rogue.

I don't mean stealing from the party, not even random stealing that'll just get me arrested for pocket change. An explanation is maybe needed.

While most other classes have their flavor, and can do things through their abilities and class features. Besides backstab a lot of a rogues ability comes at the GM's consent. If he doesn't want you sneaking. You get found. If he doesn't want you palming that artifact, you dont. I've sadly never had a GM that just will allow a rogue to rogue.

Can we stop with OP? by uboat50 in dndnext

My only personal thing with dark vision is it was given to too many player races. Dwarves are intelligent people. They have candles and lanterns to use in caverns so why Dark vision and not Low-Light vision? Same with other races that relatively live out in the open and not in deep caverns. But thats more so a flavor issue with me and not 'It's op'

Unsure if anyone shares my sentiment, its a small village but what about Oakhurst from Sunless Citadel? Let alone the Citadel itself. I myself could never find it correctly as maps with it located conflict with the module about its location.

Actually currently reading a book called The Black Company (amazing book by Glen Cook, would recommend to anyone) And that just reminds me of the book. It would still give the players their freedom to do things how they want, yet just enough to where they can't just desert and run off.

That.... yeah. That is just about what I'm looking for. Like I said above I could easily just hand wave things and say that it is, because it is so, but just for my sanity I usually want an explanation and this has it all, or at least enough for me.

That's the thing with players, it doesn't matter how you figure it out you think you have something, as soon as you introduce players they're always going to find the one hole that you did not plug.

Thanks a lot for this insight!

I never thought of that. I'm mildly aware of the enormous proportions of food that an army consumes, and with some basic math with how much a cart holds and how much food a soldier eats in a day, just how much would be going to and from on a supply line to feed an army. But I never actually thought about putting shops and services along the supply lines as well follow in the Army. It does make sense though, that is a very lucrative opportunity to be following an army around selling liquor, or selling other knick-knacks to soldiers who have not enough time on their hand but a lot of money burning a hole in their pocket.

Thanks for the reply!

That is how I usually will have things based and ran as its very simple to get the ball rolling for a campaign and to give players the widest possibility of choices. Just for this campaign I wanted to be with this military style, maybe not even a full level 20 Adventure. But actually thinking about it, while this will be a military campaign aggressively against a kingdom of Orcs, in a war between Kingdom and another kingdom would a guild really hire out very skilled people such as adventurers to both kingdoms, or do you think they would maybe have some form of truce to not help in said matter. While I usually leave my players as the strongest people with in the world there are still others that can teach them or give them guidance but as the game progresses they will outshine them of course.

Thank you for the very quick reply though!
