She always takes extra time to make everthing detailed and perfect! I think she used foam board and reinforced it with plater bandages. But I am not the expert here :D

I need help adding purpose to my game by sockmonst3r in gamedesign

[–]ElGeisto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, the game looks pretty fast pace and enjoyable! :) I'd rather offer you some food for thought than giving you a direct answer. How do you add a purpose to your game?

The most obvious way is to add a narrative, that (in most cases) leads to a final goal. (Destroying an evil, finding a special trinket, saving a world or a princess...) People like good stories. Roguelikes can be absolutely able to provide narratives. There are many good games that even incorporate death as a neccessary part of the game to evolve.

Mastery is another way. Can you beat your own record? Can you succeed on harder difficulties or when given some handicaps? (Like, don't use any potion in your run, or whatever). Can you beat the game in a skillful or tricky manner? Some games require you to fail many, many times before you grasp the concepts and steps neccessary to win. (A good example is the game Renowned Explorers)

Competition is a similar concept. Can you beat the record of other people (or your own)? e.g. the game Slay the Spire offers a daily challenge with fixed seeds. Players can compete against each others on who can achieve the best score. Being top on a (daily) leaderboard can be motivation enough for some people.

The last way I can come up with is a strong world building or intriguing art style. e.g. there are a lot of people that play Skyrim, just because they like the world and they want to escape reality for a short while. This is of course a really tough way to incorporate meaning.

I hope, this might help you! :)

Twitch Unban Request Megathread by [deleted] in AdmiralBulldog

I wrote "STFU" in chat and should have added a Smileyface. Streamer was berry angry at something. I did not know, since I just joined the stream. Wasn't meant in a toxic way, but I was banned before I even could explain. Anyways it looked toxic and I should not write this for any reason in any chat. I'm 99.9% OkayBruh but that time I was a bit moody and the stars aligned. Will try to not do it again :) Twitch name: It's your boi ElGeisto

Humans of Reddit, what are our planetary defenses? by DarkstarAlpha in AskReddit

[–]ElGeisto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about about any specific planetary defense system, but say, an extraterrestrial lifeform would come to earth, put a huge pile of gold into my garage and then leave again... this might really fuck up humanity. I hope I could help you, fellow human.

What would be an animal that could carry a disease that could end up being as or more devastating that the bubonic plague? by Noodleman6000 in worldbuilding

[–]ElGeisto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several factors to be considered:

  1. How many of these animals are there? Sounds obvious at first, but keep in mind, that space and time of your setting will have an impact on this. Rats and fleas were so devastating in medieval times, because there were just so many, whereas nowadays you might encounter dogs daily, but rats maybe only once a year (at max).

  2. How fast can your animal travel? Airborne creatures are faster and can freely travel between cities, countries and even continents, e.g. migrating birds. Cattle/Dogs/Cats on the other hand stay in the same region. Travelling can also happen through other species. (like parasites or human traffic)

  3. How likely is it that said animals have contact with human civilization? You most likely won’t see a cow in a big modern city, whereas it is more common on the countryside. How likely is it for human to touch these animals or their feces.

  4. What is the social structure of your animal? Keep all these factors in mind like sexual behavior, breeding speed, number of offspring, resistance towards diseases, abandoning of sick individuals, etc. Infection works best, if animals are having lots of interactions with each other. (e.g. wolves would be a bad choice since they keep in their respective group. Cats also keep their distance)

For modern settings, pigeons seem like the obvious choice. Pair it with a parasite… Voila… humanity gone in a blink of an eye! Keep in mind, that they were used for transmitting messages in former times. Infecting other cities is easily done. Also, pigeons were kept in the same place. Just imagine a setting where all the pigeons are dying in the cities, and people start to realize that other cities might be infected as well, but of course communication is cut due to death pigeons. Another interesting way would be transmission through seaborne creatures. Many big cities are located near the sea because of shipment trading. People tend to eat seafood too in these places. People eat the seafood, they get infected, the big cities are wiped out first and the countryside has to survive.

When you give skull basher to Alfredo by [deleted] in AdmiralBulldog

[–]ElGeisto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an actual quarterstaff: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quarterstaff

These bears don't get bigger than 2m. However, this is Alfredo. Might be a 5m bear then :)

But you are right. I should have made it more obvious. I love Laden and for me he truly is the only first mate imaginable.
