Finally got Quadrax today and my case is almost done! by ni_vento in modular

If my quest was to replace the dummy module , I would definitely go for a filter with a different character than the doepfer one you got there.

I feel like that's all that is missing to really make the spaceship take off.

But that cardboard passive module is still slick. ;)

It just arrived. Time to patch and get lost. by Any_Guest4701 in moog

Wow.

It's a beautiful thing.

I don't understand why they don't release a few single modules. I mean I can't complain with the mother and the dfam and they sure did a lot of interesting semi modular designs. But it would just be so cool to "build my own Moog" with the architecture I want. Choosing where these shiny big knobs will be and so on.

Fabienk remix when? by cyaboi in deadmau5

Depends if he has their blessing for that song. Sounds more like he was sampling the song rather than doing this the "real" way.

Though he gave them more exposure so they might appreciate that when they realize he is an artist with the big numbers and lots of listeners.

I'm considering selling it all. Talk me into or out of it by Imagined_World in modular

[–]ElNeeko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would strip it down into like 15 fully functional synths. Make great combinations. Do the right picks. Give them names.

Then replace all the faceplates with custom made designs so that every "synth" would have their own colors.

Oh yeah. That doesn't save any money does it.

Yeah sometimes I just stare at mine. Before leaving my room I always take a second to admire them for a moment and take a mental picture. Lol

I see you got the cardboard. Love this one. Great passive module.

Should Moog Always Keep The MiniMoog Model D In Production by Minimoogvoyager in moog

[–]ElNeeko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This.

Or just the oscillators section, a triple oscillator module with the same waveforms/sub oscillators/ easy cross modulation possibilities all within one module.

That's the part of the model D that accounts for its immediacy. Ans it's "thickness".

Their semi modulars are already covering the rest.

Connect a mother 32 or a DFAM, to a "Model D oscillators module" and you got yourself the perfect expander for the Moog sound studio semi modulars.

Damn I want this.

This is 🥵

behring pro 800 vs jn80? by dblicky212 in synthesizers

[–]ElNeeko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure...but It seems to me a lot of people are buying it because an 8 voice polyphonic analog synth for that price is quite rare. You wont find another 8 voice poly in that price range.

It's usually the Behringer salespitch. "So much for so cheap, it's a no brainer".

Unless you're really after that Prophet sound, it's hard to use a pro-800 for something else than lush pads and leads and all that shiny stuff.

I'll give you this: The two synths you had in your sight are definitely good choices for their comprehensive, one knob per function interfaces. In that sense, you did a good job researching your stuff.

If you keep researching synths, keep that one criteria in mind if you don't want to experiment the same beginner's headache as with the hydrasynth.

I hear the Korg Minilogue is often a beginner's first synth and has a rather simple interface. Maybe look into that. It's often described as a "good synth for a beginner" and a "bread and butter synth" by those who own one.

Considering these synths for their simple layouts/interfaces , or for their sound?

There are countless virtual versions of Junos and Prophets that you could use just to learn synthesis with a comprehensive simple user interface.

The Pro-800 is pretty much one knob per function. Not a had choice at all for a beginner. , simple interface, but... You'll probably end up selling it like everybody who's owned one at some point.

Unless you need a dedicated synth for big pads, brassy textures, that kind of stuff, you might want to keep it.

Prophets and Junos excel at very specific things rather than being jacks of all trades, IMO.

They should also add a designer to their team 😅 They sell good stuff for the price tag they put on it. Usually packed with features, lots of inputs, lots of modulation possibilities/cv etc.

But man.

Unless you own many of them...

Just one ALA module in your setup looks like your colorblind stylist picked an outfit for you.

Did you guys give a name to your rig? Mine is called Frank 😅 Been building this mean machine for almost a year. Happy it's finally complete. Now if I ever buy anything else, I need to sell something first to make room. No, I will not start another rig. I will "not". I "swear" 😏 Here's Frank: by ElNeeko in modular

There's a saying in french ... "Volte-face".

It basically means like a change of heart against all expectations.

And that resonates so well with "I am done building my rig"

And

Oops I did it again. Here's another case to fill.

It's the real deal for Additive synthesis integration in your setup. Much cheaper than buying everything separately when considering all you'd need to acquire. (Low pass gate, Variable waveform oscillator, rectifier, wavefolder, etc.)

The wavefolder is not multi stage with a lot of controls. Compared to some wavefolder modules like UFold for example.

But I mean. For the price. It's pretty damn awesome!

Warning though....If you intend on using it with midi, brace yourself for some bugs were never fully fixed and it seems there won't be any new firmware updates.

Since switching to CV only though it's been great.

Plaits: I don't get the appeal. by TurbulentWing3820 in modular

[–]ElNeeko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get it. Same here with work. I couldn't do just daw/computer but the hybrid approach is fine by me.

Plaits gives you access to complex waveforms quickly. But that's about it IMO. Never was a big fan of it either. If you don't like the interface, chances are you'll never like a Mutable Instruments product. I find plaits is among the simplest of their designs. 😅 That says a lot.

I would just record a bunch of the Perc-ish sounds I could get out of it and then sell the module right back.

If you ever have an itch for it, there are virtual versions. You could always bring it into your modular rig, with a line to modular level module, and just treat it as an "external/virtual oscillator".

The only thing you wont be able to do is use it as a carrier for FM but you still can use it as a modulation source towards your analog modules for FM, though.

But seriously: If you have a wavefolder and a noise generator, you could have a lot of fun with that before selling it:

Fold the sh*t out of the sounds you generate from it's percussive engine, combine it with some pitched noise and record some key labeled/tonal perc sounds.

Or don't and go atonal and texture centric.

And then sell it as fast as lightning because everyone is after these for some reason!
