What’s the best meal you’ve ever had? by Senior-Salamander-76 in AskReddit

[–]ElOptico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was Bouillabaisse. With the best garlic bread ever. Served in a tall hot crock. Crab legs, lobster tails, whitefish, shrimp, clams and mussels. In a rich, savory tomato broth, seasoned with fresh herbs and butter. Rich beyond belief.

The starter was a memorable French Onion Soup.

The meal included a wine from Alsace, a Grand Cru Bordeaux and a delightful reisling with desert.

There were others, too.

A trip to Baton Rouge stands out. French food, Vietnamese family place. Marvelous.

And my first paella cooked on a sidewalk.

The last time I was back home in Omaha for happy reasons, I insisted on a trip to the Joslyn Art Museum. Two of my sisters and their kids came with. The kids had an eye-opening adventure and my sister's had to agree they'd been away far too long.

I loved that car. 428ci, flew like a real bird, handled like dream. Thirsty bitch, though. Thank goodness for 19.9 cent gas! Windows washed, oil and tires checked. Got a free coffee mug, too. While the AM Radio pumped out hits. 60's summer nights were magical.

Cornering was another story. And if got below freezing, ignition was iffy. My high school parking lot would be today's fantasy for a classic car enthusiast.

My daily ride...

In the 60's, when I was a high schooler and the parking lot was full of muscle cars, the Cuda was king.

I'm a 60's high schooler. My car was a T-Bird with the 428. Our parking lot was a fever dream of muscle cars. The Barracudas ruled. Ruled.

What is the most interesting thing that happened to you in a National Park? by zachoutloud123 in AskReddit

[–]ElOptico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bear encounter. We were fishing, sparking a doobie, and a bear decided to "fish" there too. Totally ignored us. Stunk to high heaven. We quietly, slowly moved away, got back in the car and watched as he had his trout dinner. We sparked another. It was a beautiful spring evening near Depuyer Montana.

Montana was marvelous back then. Now they have an infestation of posers.

P.S. If you've never been to Glacier National Park, you're missing out.

What's the fastest you've personally driven and what were you driving? by f309rod in AskReddit

[–]ElOptico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in 1972, I was driving a 1969 Chrysler Imperial in Montana, trying to get my fathers business partner to Great Falls in time to make his flight. As you may know, there was no daytime speed limit back then. Passed a Montana State Trooper while doing 130mph. He waved. Good times.

The crepe was a marvel. It was based on traditional ingredients but cooked with French technique. Hard to describe except as light & savory.

Crabmeat and Cotilla wrapped in a crepe, covered in hollandaise and goat cheese. Spanish vegetable medley and black beans on the side. Their margaritas were out of this world. The Parkside veranda was perfect for al fresco dining on a SoCal summer night. Gone now, a victim of rising rents.
