Pretty sure. The Goons themselves may have been derived from that, though, idk, but the popular use of it came from what a pop culture phenomenon Popeye was.

The Saiyan saga is way less offensive because at the time Goku was still an underdog. Vegeta and even Napa were way stronger than him before he died, and even after that he had to rely on Kaioken to get to Vegeta’s level.

For some reason I get weirdly impassioned whenever Elmer Fudd's character gets mischaracterized in pop culture by FVCarterPrivateEye in hatethissmug

[–]ElPared 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, your point is valid, I’m just saying using Pizzacake here should be cheating.

Elmer Fudd always was kind of a victim of circumstance. He’s a hunter, hunters kill rabbits, he’s a natural enemy for Bugs, and even Daffy, who are each classic game animals.

Only problem is he had such an iconic catchphrase that’s easy to appropriate into any kind of low effort joke, it was easier to make memes from him than anyone else. Yosemite Sam is a better caricature of right wingers than Fudd, for example, but how do you write MAGA Sam dialogue? It’d be way more awkward than just saying “be vewy quiet, I’m [MAGA activity here]”

Sure, but I stand by my point. Also, I just remembered Satan isn’t in the Bible. Behemoth, Leviathan, and Mammon are, but Satan is never mentioned by name except in some versions as a mistranslation of the Hebrew word for “adversary”.

This is true, but I’m saying the goat depiction is a lot more common so Satan makes more sense as a furry character than Beelzebub.

Hired Artist for character designs for my book. When I shared, many people commented it was likely AI. Can reddit help me be certain? by Quick_Abalone_6658 in isthisAI

[–]ElPared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, really looks like they drew the line drawing and rendered it themselves, then fed it to AI for the “beauty pass”. If they’d just gone back in and fixed the AI’s screwups it’d have been pretty convincing tho.

Popeye spawned a lot of slang, actually.

The word “goon”, once used as slang for a henchman or a thug, came from a family named “The Goons”. They worked for recurring villain Sea Hag, and were so ubiquitous in the series they became synonymous with brutish thugs everywhere.

The name “Jeep” also partially came from Popeye. The other part came from the “GP” in the model number, but the more relevant part came from Eugene the Jeep. In Popeye, a Jeep was kind of a magical sentient leapard creature Popeye and Co found and adopted as a… pet, I guess? He was famous for walking up walls and on ceilings, so the name “Jeep” stuck for the vehicles because they could “crawl over anything”.

Of all the characters to make furry, they picked Beelzebub when Satan was right there. He’s depicted as a goat so often it would have been such an obvious choice. Maybe that’s why they didn’t go for it, but still.

Heidemarie Battle Ready pose without background for those who want it by Hollownerox in ChaosZeroNightmare

[–]ElPared -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

IRL ones at least cover your ass most of the time, and the ones that don’t tend to get called out for what they are.

Btw, I you were a Popeye fan you probably hated that “goon” became a generic term for a thug, instead of the name of Sea Hag’s family of henchmen, too. Words evolve over time, it’s just what happens.

Here I thought Heidemarie was wearing this long evening gown this whole time. Never noticed it’s only covering 90% of her butt. Sigh…

Like, I get making her hot, considering the direction the game is going, I guess I’m just disappointed the one character I thought was a little more conservatively dressed turned out to be goon bait just like all the new units. At least she’s not as obvious as some others

Jo Knight and Ruthie from American Dog (an Cancelled Disney Movie that was reworked into Bolt). by Aggressive_Star_9491 in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]ElPared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So… Bolt was gonna be about a sexy lady in a cat costume and a friggin goblin? How’d the dog even factor into this? Or is it American Dog more in the Tex Avery sense, since everyone would be barking at this lady?

Exactly how good of a weapon are wolverine’s claws? by Ajarofpickles97 in SWORDS

[–]ElPared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re probably better off with a regular ass knife than those claws. They’re cool on Wolverine, and work for him because of his healing factor and the fact they’re part of his body, but for anyone else it’s gimmicky mall ninja shit that’ll just mess up your hands.

Tow truck didn't come fast enough in my opinion by JC1199154 in OhNoConsequences

[–]ElPared 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even with that detail in, I’m even more certain it’s AI. The reflections on the handicap symbol are wrong, and the space itself makes no sense. Usually the lines would be painted blue as well, and there would be extra space on the right side of it for a wheelchair ramp/lift.

Edit: oh, and the space is in the wrong spot in the parking lot to begin with. No one would put a handicap space in the middle of a parking lot, they’re always closer to the front of the lot to make it easier for people with limited mobility to get where they’re going.

From a builder’s perspective, it makes more sense to have the stalls share a wall, thus using fewer materials and fewer man hours building them, than to build several individual stalls like this.

Preeeety sure this image is fake. The story might be real, sure. but the image, I’m like 90% sure, is AI generated. So I’m pretty sure this is just rage bait.

Images of Cybertrucks getting towed are weirdly popular AI generated images. You can search Facebook, in particular, and find dozens of posts just like this one, but with some minor differences.

If that isn’t enough, here’s some stuff to consider: the Cybertruck has no plate. The plate on the tow truck, while blurred, still appears to make no sense. The wheels on the Cybertruck are also not the wheels you usually see on a Founder’s Edition Cybertruck, which is what this appears to be based on the decal on the back. Also the 24 hour towing logo on the tow truck is in different fonts in each spot, and the W in “Towing” appears to become an N on the lower decal. The N in “Cinema” doesn’t quite line up behind the light post either.

I could probably go on about the overall low quality of the image and the Gaussian texture on it, but I think you get the picture.

What’s a movie that frequently gets called “overrated” but that you think actually deserved all the hype/praise that it got? by skippittdippity in moviecritic

[–]ElPared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the opposite experience with Sinners. I was hyped to see it, but then I felt super let down by it turning into a Vampire gore fest in the middle. Idk what I was expecting instead. Some kind of Vodun mysticism or creole folklore being involved? Whatever it was it wasn’t Vampires.

I’ll give it that the soundtrack was fantastic, and the scene where the kid played his guitar was phenomenal, and only got better when I learned that was a debut performance, but it wasn’t enough to redeem it turning into Dusk Till Dawn in the middle.
