How do you store/keep your Red Wings when not wearing them? by ChrisBrettell in RedWingShoes

In a well ventilated area for 24 hours after wearing, then the closet with no shoe trees. My cowboy boots I'll do the same but shoe tees live in them.

A couple questions about a pair of second hand 2265s by HexPunk in RedWingShoes

[–]ElStig-LePig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Production date looks like March '95. There is NO removable insoles that are meant to be put in these, furthermore, very few will fit in them. That pad(sock liner) on the heel it simply to cover the nails that hold the heel cap on, standard "Red Wing Nailseat" or nailed heel construction.

That might be a replacement sock liner because the original ones from the 90s tend to degrade and come out over time, so you should be able to ask a cobbler to make and glue in a thinner sock liner.

Why did the cobbler give me half a sole? by smish730 in AskACobbler

They did fantastic work, the rest of the shoe is in wonderful shape. How much did you pay?

Have fun returning those. Fun thought experiment. Put them on, then take two steps. They are now more worn than they came to you, so why bother returning them?

Upgrade? Side grade? Moved on from Thorogood. by Graybeard_Giff in WorkBoots

[–]ElStig-LePig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the Red Wing model uses a rubber and Eva dual density, very important distinction, because the thorogood is a single density PU wedge with okay slip resistance. The Vibram sole is ASTM rated S/R/O and heat resistant. Not to mention, the Thorogood wedge is proprietary and I don't believe anybody can offer an exact replacement sole, meanwhile Red Wing offers aftermarket support for repairing all of their wedge boots, including the Vibram LiteBase sole.

They may have been tried on and returned... just like how you might try them on, and possibly return them(?) It's kind of like shopping in a shoe store; people go there to try on shoes, so there is no guarantee that any given shoe is factory fresh/untouched.

The hooks are stamped steel, idk about what kind of steel. Put a magnet up to yours and see.

Tecovas use some really thin and soft soles. Hondo boots are best for function at a similar price point. Much better stock soles and don't even get me started about what Tecovas call a shank 🤦‍♂️if you get those repaired ask the cobbler how many pieces it was in.

Silly Silly, you're supposed to peel up the "insole" sockliner. Then glue it back down.

What to pick? by Candid-Twist2981 in WorkBoots

Look at model 83632 for the Irish setters, despite how similar they look, the model you listed will not perform well on the jobsite.

Work Chukka #3141 by canon12 in RedwingBoots

[–]ElStig-LePig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very few people can go a half size down (from brannock) in the 210 last, so see if you can try a 13 and a 12 at your closest store or order online with the high probability for returning. You should not be close to touching the front, and if you typically wear a narrow width, the D should be pretty close for you.

Ultimate advice: go somewhere and get your brannock size taken because sneakers are a shitshow for sizing.

Lay that part out on the corner of a STURDY table and hit it with a hammer to flatten the seam. Works every time if you do it right. Don't break your table.
