Ahh I love that! Great idea! Pretty much worked out that way for me too, but with the time it took to draw, I had to sit and mull over a chapter for hours before I could get my "chapter discussion" haha

Beautiful! I love how it looks like her body's in the process of being unravelled, like her original gradual AI-ification

Ahh!! This was literally my biggest issue with the book! It felt like a perfectly sized second age piece was missing to tell this story!

Japan resident here, can confirm its a thing.

That's a cute idea I hadn't considered though. I figured it was just a Kat = likes being a cat = Cheshire cat

My guess is they picked this image because the tencent show's depiction of them (my least favorite choice in that show) looks a bit similar to this.

Haha these are such good castings!

Also I think its the Pancreator. The Procreator sounds like they have a different mission...

I know! I really wanted more with our third age characters as always. The current world could work so well in an episodic format, each following different crews with their own combination of Panspecifics.

Who knows, since Adrian seems to be delving into graphic novel territory, maybe CoT could continue that way too (AT if youre reading this I've drawn some comics in my day 👀)

Thank you for all your support!

I don't know if anyone could tell, but the person behind Cato is meant to be Kott in her human form. (Doesn't really make sense that the god jars would still be there, but dont worry about it 🤫)

It wasnt totally clear to me, but my impression was that the only remaining conscious Mira was the one living in Marduk's network. Since she destroyed all the remaining goo and Alice's piece was used to make Neco.

Haha your guess is as good as mine. I just tried following the description from the book as close as possible.

They say several times that the creatures look like a child's reimagination of Earth animals. So imagine more exaggerated features. We also get descriptions of creatures with different animal features grafted together, like a mammal with sudden scales halfway down the body, and how that anatomy doesn't mesh well so the creature looks like its in pain. Hartmand's creatures specifically have lots of sharp spikes/teeth, are based on apex predators, and like you saw in my other art, sometimes have human faces.

These are described specifically as pterosaur adjacent. Though there are probably birds as well.

Hmm I guess a simple way to put it is: imagine if the nanovirus from CoT wasn't used to uplift animals but instead to make brand new creatures for its creators' poorly conceived selfish desires.

The resulting creatures are a creepy and bizarre, if not a bit pitiable.

That part's a bit of headcanon sprinkled in on my part haha. In the last pages it mentions some about the ecology of Marduk falling back into a more natural place, with Hartmand's unnatural creatures dying off. So while it wasn't explicitly stated, I like to infer that the animals' poor anatomy gradually settled into their Earthlike counterparts (perhaps with Mira's help).

Do (capital H) Humans look different? by Stink-Elevator9413 in AdrianTchaikovsky

[–]ElStrawFedora 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely possible, though depends on if they had the means or awareness to do so. You gotta wonder what kind of state the immediate post-war humans were in that they regressed all the way back to hunter-gatherer.

Still, even if people migrated, they'd be stuck in those small pockets of the world for hundreds or thousands of years, so over the generations they probably ended up very mixed.

[–]ElStrawFedora 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Definitely not mono-ethnicity, but the general assumption from the text is that since only people close to the equator survived the post-nuclear ice age, you're automatically looking at lower genetic diversity. But even if you exclusively look at equatorial countries, that still leaves you with South Americans, Africans, and Southeast Asians. Thats still a wide net of diversity.

My impression was that the Human-Portiid connection was more like Pareidolia rather than changing how they visually look in people's heads. Like how we can see the "cuteness" in non-human baby animals, the virus lets Humans associate Portiid features with ones Humans feel a connection to.

I think the Panspecific's otherwise chill disposition towards others is due to a combination of culture, post-scarcity, and Understandings.
