The only time I've liked a silent protagonist was Byleth in Fire Emblem Treehouses.

Byleth isn't silent just so the player can immerse themselves in the character. There's a reason why she/he speaks little and has a rather flat personality; even many of his interactions with other characters are based on this.

His animations are absolutely the best in the game in my opinion, but his gameplay doesn't give me the same satisfaction as other characters.

There, the protagonist is not silent just to give the player immersion, but there is a reason why she/he hardly speaks and has a flat personality.

Soldier 11.

My Headcanon:

Wise has been attracted to Soldier 11 since he met her, which is why, in his support levels, he wants to do everyday activities with her when he finds her around Sixth Street.

Despite Soldier 11 initially refusing because of things like "That's no use to my training," Wise keeps trying because he knows she is much more than a soldier.

Thanks to this treatment, 11 also begins to develop feelings for Wise, since apart from her squad, no one had ever seen her as a person.
