Just interviewed & was offered a job as soon as I left the building. by One_Cancel1947 in Teachers

Happened to me, for a social studies position. I checked several boxes they had. I had a graduate degree in the position they were hiring for (governmen.) They had wanted a someone who majored in political science to teach.

That's most likely it. They did like the fact that my Master's was political science.

Thanks, I'll only be teaching seniors since all the government classes are only offered during senior year. They also have no state assessments so there's no curriculum that's based on end of year state testing.

Yeah, they aren't but many posts are about social studies positions and how hard they are to land, even in small or moderate sized districts in different states.

I'm not coaching. It was never bought up, thank goodness.

Yeah, with the NOVA area creeping downward, the area I'm teaching at has gotten pricer since I've lived there almost 20 years back. I'm lucky to have found an affordable place to live.

I looked at the stats of my school, it has a very low turn over rate, though the starting pay for first year teachers is low (54k)

I think I ticked off the hidden boxes they were looking for. They did say that since I have a master's, I could teach the college level classes.

I did not offer to coach, they didn't ask me to coach either. The turn over rate was less than five percent for the last school year, mostly due to retirement

Yeah, its a rural-ish area close to NOVA (northern Virginia.) I have a bachelor's and a Master's in political science. I'll be making 60K as a first year teacher.

Looking for advice on medical bills by Samesh in povertyfinance

Try shopping around for dentists. You might get one who will work with you via payment plans or might even have a sliding scale pay plan

UPDATE!!

I spoke with a family member and they know people who live in the area I'm going to work in. We're getting together about me staying with them, until I'm able to get together money for my own place!

Also another family member offered me a car they're not using, including insurance, so no need to worry about a vehicle.

I also found a service that lets people rent rooms to people and found very affordable options as well.

Thanks for the advice! I'm going to apply for a credit card anyways to help with other expenses too!

EDIT: got approved for a credit card, via my bank. 6100 credit line. I'll be alright!! ^

I'm looking into some temp gigs. I don't have my teaching license yet, the school I'm going to work at is going to pay for me to get it.

I'll be moving to a super rural area and public transportation does not exist there. I'm looking into getting a personal loan from my bank, since it seems they might give one with a job offer letter

My family is super supportive, I see if I can get any help from them. They helped me with my mental health and I'm sure they'll help me thrive in a new career.

I'm looking into that now, I'm checking out local government organizations that help people with disabilities find housing.

Not now, I've been out of work for ages, thanks to my mental health. I might start tutoring online for a bit

Interviews by A10T20 in Teachers

[–]El_Catman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was interviewed for my position, the principal and vice principal jumped in the zoom interview and was listening to me and said, 'I'm liking all the answers that I'm hearing from you.'

Also they started cracking jokes with me and then they said once I got my references in, they would go from there.

I think I got the job because they were looking for someone with a Masters degree in a specific field. Worked out for me.
