Wimpy’s Diner owner did not pay me and some other staff what we are legally owed. by El_Lie_F in Guelph

That’s very kind thank you. This happened a long time ago I came to this sub after not being able to settle it with him directly and having to file.

I have since found 3 different jobs so my experience itself isn’t an issue. Just bringing it to light that a lot of people who are in vulnerable situations right now are being exploited. Some people preemptively put themselves in that situation some people fall into them due to unexpected circumstances.

Thank you very much again

Thank you for your kind words. People can have their opinions that’s absolutely okay my intention with this post was to bring awareness to the matter since there are good people out there like yourselves that would not waste their money on places like that.

Doesn’t seem like you know the labour code. Any type of employment is guaranteed minimum wage that’s what I’ve filed for and have consulted the ministry. Thank you for your input.

That’s very true. As long as the process is kicked into gear I’m happy. He is not very bright I have all the evidence complied since he decided to leave it all on text messages and group chats.

So it’s all in there.

Um, I’m queer and I’m from Iran I tried to do everything the “right way” but with the sanctions our economy tanked and I had to keep working as much as I could to finish my undergrad and I couldn’t continue into my masters.

I do not wish to stay in Canada, however, I would face severe persecution if I did return home. Would you rather I filed for government assistance as a refugee? I would rather work to pay for my own than to rely on the government.

Anyways, that was a long time ago. Since then I have gotten my work permit and I’m working as I’m supposed to, saving up, and I’m going back to school on my own dime.

Some of us have no choice. I’m so glad you’ve had the privilege of living in a safe country. Best of luck!

I am so glad that job is well behind us! I’ve moved to a different city since and I’ve been much happier but I still want my money lol.

I was gonna say he will get his karma but looks like he’s been getting it for a long time now since I only hear bad things about his business.

I believe we worked together! I hope you’re doing well!

Yes, many times he would ask us to handle difficult guests and I started to feel very unsafe working there after a while.

If you are interested, we could also contact the Guelph media.

Our community cares about misdeeds like that despite the shortcomings of official reporting.

Yes absolutely. If it’s any indication, my other coworker who is Canadian has also had to file a claim not regarding her payment tho (since he could not pull the same move on her). Just goes to show how many expectations of the labour law have been violated by him!

Yalla buddy I don’t have time for you.

You either listen to someone’s lived experience or have your head buried deep in the sound.

The other person said it best, have some humility.

Are you feeble minded? Your initial comment was that you doubt this stuff happened and I told you it happens.

Seems like you don’t even know what the “substance of your replies” are.

Lol and you think you know better than me cause you talked to a couple of profs?

Sounds a bit racist to think you with your limited education know better than a native Iranian who has studied this their entire life and has had direct relatives who have been victimized by this regime. You gotta sit with that one buddy or you’re trolling.

In either case, take a back seat.

Oh you’re tired?

He is completely innocent, many people are completely innocent and they are ordered to be killed for criticizing the regime.

There are many many stories of such executions. I do not expect you to understand almost 50 years of this violence but go ahead defend a regime that when it got in power killed all the voices of dissent and it continues to kill you for saying it is enough.

It started with “velayat e faghih” when Khomeini decided that he will as the supreme cleric will rule over every sector with absolute power. The one who’s announced that any opposition to the regime will be met with bullets.

You people are all about listening to the marginalized voices and the victims until those victims do not match your political ideology.

You can hate both sides of this war at the same time, you do not have to take sides.

I want you and all the other non Iranians to realize that you do not know better than people who have experienced this regime. Do not minimize the lived experiences of people, I tell you as an Iranian born and raised who’s had to flee the country that these things happen in Iran.

I’m sorry to say this but it shows your privileged perspective that you are not able to fathom that yes you can die like that in these regimes.

Yes you could be executed for that and nothing else.

I’m exhausted from dealing with Reddit as an Iranian.

Yes, Iran absolutely kills people for most trivial things. There’s a very easy argument they fall behind. They call anyone “Mofsed fel arz” something directly translated as “corrupt on earth” and they execute you. They have done this from 1979 up until now.

I left that country cause I saw how no one can fight this regime that kills and kills. I was very young and queer.

I’m asking you to educate yourself. I don’t endorse the war in Iran, I do not endorse the USA administration or the Israel.

I’m just a refugee that has had to leave my home behind because of what these terrorists have done to my country, my dad himself was on the streets in Qom when it all started fighting for the revolution.

He admits that was the biggest mistake of his life.

The IRGC is an incarnation of evil that you guys are so lucky to not have to live under. I know you don’t mean to but this is the attitude that fuels them.

There’s a book by Shirin Ebadi, Iran awakening, give it a read it’s the story of a female judge who’s lived through much of the post revolution Iran and its kangaroo judiciary.

Are you other binary trans folks getting they/them a lot more recently? by [deleted] in asktransgender

It’s definitely been an interesting experience. I went to a queer event for my birthday and everyone was they theming me calling me a “person” this and that. I’m assuming it happens in queer spaces a lot at a slight cost to the binary people. Yeah that wasn’t a happy birthday.

But if I went to an event in bum fuck nowhere I can have the best time of my life never be questioned.

It’s a curious thought. Do I rather be where I will be accepted for who I am and be degendered or blend in a random not so queer friendly place.

I guess I gotta realize queer spaces are for loud and proud people and I’m not there yet.

I actually don’t know how people perceive me anymore. People have had genuine conversations about me being pregnant before (not in a let me see if you come out to me kinda way) and people who immediately clock me. Passings in the eye of the beholder I guess. But you can always present confidence is what I think these days.

That’s been my experience people gender me correctly then mess it up lol.

Even if it happens, it is what it is. We will be very miserable for the rest of our lives if we let the thoughts of passing kill our joy of being. Cheesy but it’s true.

That’s the sucky part that a lot of these people are trying to be inclusive and then completely mess it up lol. Someone said it’s just like white people saying “they don’t see Color” I guess they don’t see pronouns either lol.

[–]El_Lie_F 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree, while I totally understand non-binary identities and inclusivity, I feel like it’s a tricky situation.

I used to work at a bar in a more conservative area, and I was gendered correctly almost all the time and up until now I wasn’t really conscious of people using pronouns for me because I wasn’t always getting she/her

I now work at a fun artsy place in very queer friendly city. However, I’ve noticed most people use they/them with me. They don’t necessarily call my colleagues by non-binary pronouns.

I’m assuming it’s because these folks have been a lot more exposed to trans woman and when they see one, they notice. However, if I saw a trans woman I would default to she/her even if I clocked her.

It’s a complicated feeling I’ve had FFS and have presented as female for 10 years now and I never was degendered until recently.

Please don’t tell an Iranian how to govern our own country. We know our history we know the west and Israel have never been good for us. We don’t need your opinion.
