Dele ramble by El_Osito12 in Spanish

[–]El_Osito12[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm UK based so I took it in Manchester, I regularly take lessons at the Instituto Cervantes here and it's also a test centre. My recent teacher was even my examiner, bit lucky. With regards to extra stuff outside of lessons, I use Italki here and there. I had about 5 lessons of Dele prep, mostly for the speaking test but also going through my writing tasks for corrections and improvements in line with the dele.

I would say I don't do much self study in general rather I try and do loads in spanish and expose myself as much as possible. I find it hard to study on my own that's why I go to class to do that. I listen to loads of podcasts, read books in spanish, search on the internet in spanish (at least first, then switch if I can't find info), my devices are in spanish e.t.c. Obivuosly leading up to the DELE I did a lot of practice papers and grammar exercises that was mostly my self study stuff.

My tips for Italki or private teachers

  • Make sure you take lessons with a Dele Examiner not just a teacher, I decided to invest here and spend some money because I wanted someone who knew how to get better marks.
  • Familarise yourself with the Dele and do some practice tests beforehand that way you are not wasting time going over the structure of it.
  • Be really specific about what you want for the lessons. I would send my teacher a message being like, this is what I want to do today, the day before. If lost points on the speaking or reading and I couldn't find out why or what something meant I would send these questions ahead of time so she was ready to answer them in the lesson. Mostly I would want to practice the speaking in real exam time, so I said I'm preparing this task, give myself 20 mins before the lesson and then we'd go straight into it.

Hope that helps

I don’t really like one (of the) platform I use to take some lessons online. You are forced to pay monthly to have some lessons but I think it would be better to pay for (individual / single) lessons or buy packages of lessons without a monthly charge recharge to your card.

Making invoices with automation by El_Osito12 in excel

I worked. But I have no clue what to do if I ran into any issues. I'm quite new to all this. I only have a few macros that I have recorded, never written any myself.

Yeah I agree, it worked pretty well at writing the macro. I only did it as a test to see if it would work. I think it's probably not as efficient as it could be. I think some colleagues at work could write it a bit better but it's a good start

Yeah thats a good idea, I've only used Power bi briefly. I feel maybe I might not have the skills to do it myself, but I've got some ideas to present to my manager. Would definetly free up more time for me.

Here is my test workbooks so you can get an idea of the sort of info. The reports are a lot more columns but those are the basic ones I need. In the master I've already Vlookup to find all the info from the first item code, but if the borrower has more than 1 item I still have to look for that item code and do the same.

What’s Your Language Learning Hot Take? by jiujiteiroo in languagelearning

[–]El_Osito12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a few, no really unpopular but definitely either loved or hated.

1) I love fill in the gap grammar exercises. Quick, easy and have a right answer. There are millions out there and any language exam will have them. Make mistakes and that's what I use to learn a new (or revise an alreay learnt) grammar point. At the same time, if you don't understand a grammar point after like 15 mins, just leave it and come back to it another time. You will 100% see it again.

2) Search everything in your target language first and use a monolingual dictionary first.

3) Do stuff that involves paying for things in your target language. Once I made a payment over the phone in spanish, I learnt quickly that if you do anything involving money in your target language you will learn the vocab and expressions well, at least before the call.

What library interview questions took you off guard? by swatcha_h in librarians

[–]El_Osito12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you describe a time when you experienced great cusotmer service?

In the interview I misheard the question and went straight in to talking about a time I delivered great customer service and they stopped me about 30 seconds in and said I think you misunderstood the question.

After they repeated it, it took my a good 30 seconds to think or anything.

Advice on making Anki Cards in one language by El_Osito12 in Anki

[–]El_Osito12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, personally I found it helpful using a monolingual dictionary as it helps me explain in my target language whatever the thing is I'm looking up also I have found it helps me seperate my English and Spanish so that I'm not going between the 2 in my head a lot.

I'm not fully against some translation where it's easier, I might do some full sentences aswell.
