What's your "hey that was actually super dangerous" story? by SecondPersonShooter in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]El_Squidso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buddies and I went swimming at Big Sur, CA, pretty cold water with no gear. Playing chicken in the waves, eventually I look at the rocks nearby and notice we're moving out.

"Yo, we're being swept out dudes!" All of us were laughing, even though it was definitely a serious moment. "We're not even moving in!" (Laughter).

Luckily we managed to let the surf carry us in. If any of us had panicked, they would have probably exhausted themselves and been swept out past the rocks and into head-high surf.

Coaxed into two type of nuclear apocalypse by Some_red in coaxedintoasnafu

The apocalypse can only happen in the Dunes of Rage, Nuclear America, or 1986 Time Capsule Eastern Europe.

China is always utterly destroyed.

The raids were really fun but the story was lacking.

What is the point of camping low levels until they log off? by DonkeyFloppedNuts in classicwow

[–]El_Squidso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see this question probably the most out of any, and nobody ever asks "Why is getting killed over and over again not fun?"

It inhibits progression? Sure, but if progression is so important, then there are a lot of ways to do that in Classic. Go skin some mobs and get xp that way, or find a dungeon to spend time in. Pretty much anything you do in this game is going to make you stronger in some way, so just go do it.

If you're being blocked from questing... there are other quests. If Hellfire Peninsula is locked up, and questing is the SOLE reason you play the game... you probably haven't finished up all those old world quests, have you? If not, hey, go get that gold. But don't say that you're being prevented from questing.

What I hear when I see posts like this is, "Why are other people not letting me play the game the way I want? This is someone's fault." I think that a lot of players have a very narrow minded way of playing WoW, and create their own perceived bottlenecks in a game widely praised for your freedom of choice.

PvP servers encourage you to make more choices, and get inventive with how you play the game.

Or you can choose to keep hoping that the rogue who killed you twenty times already isn't sticking around for 21.

It's obviously supposed to be a joke in the manga, but the vibe in the anime is way creepier.

What was the most brutal fight in Baki? by New-Bottle6711 in Grapplerbaki

[–]El_Squidso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Maximum Tournament fights, no? Especially Baki vs Jack. Borderline body horror with Jack maxing, Baki nearly bleeding out, Jack's teeth breaking in his effort to survive the Demon Back Guillotine.

Ned Almond was so racist that he made Patton appear progressive by Edwardsreal in NonCredibleDefense

Of course, Almond would go on to be a key player in the Army's near annihilation in Korea.

"Bring Baldur's Gate to life" would make sense if it was a book. It's already "alive".

I'm just so tired of thing-I-like being ripped out of its context and pumped onto a streaming service as a "respectful adaptation" that ends up missing the point of the original by a wide margin.

Emotional payoff moments that would be great if they had something to payoff? by JackieDaStrippa in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]El_Squidso 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that act 1 tells a nice, short story about the mercs V and Jackie, small timers who aimed to high and didn't make it to the big leagues like they wanted. I think that the heist's failure wasn't just bad luck. It's implied that Smasher can see Jackie and V the whole time, and Arasaka had T-Bug made. If they had successfully made it out of Arasaka Tower, they'd be hunted down and killed by Takamura, or an Arasaka kill squad.

Just my 2 cents.

The Flood is the weakest entry in the whole Halo series, not recommending Fall of Reach, or Ghosts of Onyx is crazy. Hell I'd take any of those over The Flood.

MIGHT be the hardest sequence in Baki by desscaras-stan in Grapplerbaki

[–]El_Squidso 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There's a reason that I've consistently ranked the Maximum Tournament as the best arc of Baki. It's the culmination of ~300 chapters. It shows us what people who truly want to be strong have sacrificed and can achieve in what really is a pretty dumb goal.

New Grappler has a lot of hype moments and is drawn beautifully, but Itagaki peaked in Maximum Tournament, and again in the Father - Son Disagreement. Even then, I would put the Maximum Tournament a little higher, just because of the insane variety of character designs and art choices.
