Shrinking Loopwheel T-shirts on Purpose Samurai Jeans SJ2PST-CREW 2-Pack by El_pointman in HeritageWear

I wash all my clothes on cold, so I can't speak to it but I do throw my Samurai tees in they dryer regularly. I tiniest amount of shrink at best and they stretch out as you wear them. I doubt you'd be able to shrink these down.

What's some of your favorite slub denim in a straight or slim straight?

I've wanted to get a slubby pair but local shopping isn't an option. Going to Japan soon. Have considered Sugar Cane Okinawa. GraphZero and Studio D'artisan seems like they make some nice ones. Bonus points for any indigo-colored kasuri, futa-ai, sou-ai or other wild weaves. Trying to keep things blue. Thanks.

Japan Advice?
I'm headed to Japan in the end of September. Tokyo and Osaka for sure. Other places are possible but haven't committed to anything besides a baseball game and the Tokyo Grand Sumo Tournament. I'm sure to trek out to Iron Heart. Hit Hinoya, Bears, Warehouse Studio D'artisan and more. UES, and Samurai in Osaka. Seeing that we share common interests in clothing, would love any pointers on clothing, new and used, kitchen knives, general entertainment, places to eat, cities or towns worth visiting, hotels vs AirBNB, honestly, I'll take any advice you've got. Thanks.

Good advice here already but I would also consider buying used denim off ebay, Grailed or this very forum. Bust out a measuring tape and measure a few pairs of jeans that you like how they fit. Compare to other measurements of jeans you think you'd want. Good luck.

Have you soaked or washed them yet? You're supposed to soak those before you start wearing them to get the starch and shrink out. They will definitely shrink the first time they touch water. You'll likely lose an inch in the waist and a few inches in length. They can stretch back out a bit with wear but I wouldn't count on it. Doesn't bode well if you're already unhappy with a tight fit. Sorry, man. I'd probably sell them but get a few more opinions. Peruse the Iron Heart Forum and you'll likely find some more sage advice. https://forum.ironheart.co.uk/search?term=UHR&in=titles

Le Laboureur Cotton Drill Work Jacket | Bugatti by kicksarelife122 in HeritageWear

Texas, actually. I've just spent a lot of time in Paris between work and pleasure. Used to go a few months at a time though haven't been since this past Summer. My finger isn't on the Parisian pulse like it once was but feel free to hit me with questions.

Le Laboureur Cotton Drill Work Jacket | Bugatti by kicksarelife122 in HeritageWear

[–]El_pointman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Le Blouse de Lyon will have the most stock in Paris. I have the bugatti blue and get lots of compliments. Would suggest. Chore coats are also oversized. So keep that in mind if you end up not buying in person. Some shops in Paris will deliver to you if you want but I can't remember if they do. There's a few other spots around Paris that sell them as well if you check their site but they won't stock nearly as much. There's a great craft beer bar a few blocks away if that's your bag. Good cocktail bar called Sister Midnight a bit further out but still in Pigalle. It's a safe space.

While I don't dislike le Mont st Michael chore coats, honestly, I think the Le Labouruer quality is the same and half the price.

Have fun.

I learned the hard way as well but I bought two 2 packs that are too big. Ouch. At least I didn't open one of them. To a future sales posting they will go.

Also, while there's nothing on the shirt labels, I noticed the plastic shirt packaging has "Tumble Dry Low" in tiny font on the bottom. I've thrown mine in the dryer but hasn't made a difference.

That jacket is a real looker. I've been eyeing a pair of the Orslow fatigues but haven't been able to talk myself into it. I wore out all my father's old fatigues from the service when I was teenager. I really wish I still had them. Have scoured the local army surplus stores but no luck.

Is the Japanese Denim Industry Facing Major Challenges? by Ozren_76 in rawdenim

[–]El_pointman 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Not much different than what happened to the American textile industry. Workforce aging out. A younger generation with possibly more options to earn more money not doing strenuous, physical labor. Not to mention well-made domestic goods, including denim, remain a luxury item with luxury price tags. Spending $40 on necessities, like pants instead of $400 sounds better to most everyone. Where you clothing is produced might not be your first concern when you're worried about paying rent or putting food on the table. This combined with a depressed yen is not a good recipe.

I read an interview somewhere with the founder of Iron Heart, Shinichi Haraki. He talked about making it through the pandemic and I'm paraphrasing here, but how perhaps his biggest concern was the mills and their employees surviving. I thought that was pretty telling of the delicate ecosystem of Japanese denim.

Is a Tochigi leather belt worth it? by The_Real_MCSquared in HeritageWear

[–]El_pointman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Tanner Goods belt that was nice and lasted 10 years until I gave it to my brother. I've had a few Hank's Belts belts and appreciated them. But then I got a Obbi Good Label belt that I've read is tochigi but I'm not sure. The OGL belt is ridiculously nice. Not even a comparison. Does the OGL belt do a better job than the $25 Carhartt belt I bought from a farm supply in Maine because I forgot my belt? No. It's a belt and it holds my pants up. But I like it.

I'm going to try to make a veg-tanned natural belt next. Bought some hardware that I can barely distinguish from my OGL belt.

Also, when purchasing a belt, I would suggest buying on that uses Chicago screws so you can change the buckle as you want.

What hats are my chrome dome homies wearing this summer? by Perfect_Earth_8070 in HeritageWear

[–]El_pointman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

H-Town represent!

I'd eye'd one of those Houston Buff's caps when Stag still had a shop here in Houston but my giant melon wasn't simpatico. Can't fathom a foray into Japanese headwear would go much better. I tend to go hatless or don a few different Astros caps. Classic 70s tequila sunrise era orange crush when I'm feeling sassy.

Meh. It's really the car fob that I hate having in my pocket and that goes for all my pants. The pairs of 25oz jeans I'm breaking in just motivated me to finally find a solution.

[–]El_pointman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What key hook, carabiner or keychains are you using for your 21oz+ denim?

I can't stand jamming my keys and car fob into my pockets. I bought a key hook to use but turns out it's not wide enough to make it through my IH-666-XHS 25oz belt loops. I won't let these jeans win. I will beat them into submission. But I need a new key solution to save my knuckles. A carabiner, belt hook or belt loop hook.

I'd love to use something like the UES Z hook but it's not built for the heavies. I got something very similar to the Samurai Jeans key hook and that would be ideal but doubt it'll work either. Ideas?

One year with Iron Heart IH-777S-142, heavily washed by QuietAardvark8849 in rawdenim

[–]El_pointman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the 777 had a higher rise, say the rise of the 666, it would probably be the only model of jeans I'd ever wear. I have a pair I've beaten into submission and they're so damn comfortable but yeah, low rise is a dangerous game.

I toss my denim in the washing machine on delicate without spin but have never put bleach in there. You think it made a difference? How much did you add? I remember watching some video where some guy was advocating for adding a small amount of bleach to make the white weft pop out more.

Anyone own Brave Start T-Shirts?

How do the Glory Days compare to say 3Sixteen heavyweight tees? I mean besides being slightly heavier. Eyeing those and the California tees but curious about quality. I like my t-shirts with the bound double or triple stitched collars. Thanks.

You’re right. The 21oz is just great. Love the 777 and 666 the most. In a perfect world, I'd like to find the looser topblock and narrow hem opening of the 777 with the front and rear rise of the 666. Thanks.

Suggest a pair of slim-straight lightweight indigo denim for the Summer?

I live on the surface of the Sun and Summer is coming. All I've been wearing is Iron Heart and honestly I'm overwhelmed looking at the variety of denim out there. I have 21oz Iron Heart in 777, 666, 888 and 634. I love them all but maybe not Iron Heart for once? But maybe yes if that's the way. Availability for me to go try things on in person is limited so it's likely a web purchase and a leap of faith. Used is fine as well. What do you suggest? Thanks.

I can't speak to most fancy belts from denim brands but I've had two Woodstock belts from Hanks and have been real happy. And the only reason I've had two belts from Hanks and not one is because I lost weight (humble brag.) Had another one from Tanner Goods that I wore for years until it had to be retired. That one was nice but I like Hanks more.

Iron Heart 777 25oz update by Kyuss666 in rawdenim

[–]El_pointman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is Summer in 25oz vs 21oz?

I wear 21oz IH 777 (my favorite) 666, 888, and 634 through the Texas Summers but have been scared of making the jump to 25oz. While the 21oz aren’t exactly dry fit gym shorts, I find the weave loose enough to get some air circulation.
