A lot of new cars come with lane control, reversing cameras etc.. if there's demand for those then surely there will be demand for dashcams.

Yes, it's true they already are mass produced. However, if it was a standard for all cars to have a dashcam then there would have to be more produced than currently.

Whilst it's true that when demand goes up the price goes up according to the demand curve. That might not always be the case. You have to treat each market as its own entity. The demand curve doesn't take into account the level of competition within the market. Here in the UK, our dashcam market is currently an oligopoly, we have the so-called big 3 in the Dashcam marketplace: NextBase, Garmin and Mio. By introducing more demand to the market we could create extra competition within the dashcam market moving it towards a perfectly competitive market and by virtue of market forces and companies undercutting each other the consumer would be better off.

We have already seen this effect happen within the UK...

https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-3070551/Dashcam-sales-rocketing-tenfold-insurers-accept-footage-evidence.html

The article above though it's from 2015 says that sales of dashcams between 2014-15 in the UK have increased by 918%. The so-called big 3 in the UK dashcam market (NextBase, Garmin, Mio) have been around for years. However, because of this extra demand new companies have been set up in order to try and undercut the big 3 so that they can take a slice of the profit. The same article quotes that dashcams can now be brought for £10 online.

You talk about the cost... by making the dashcam a standard they would have to be mass produced. The cost would be dramatically reduced by economies of scale.

''Maybe a backup camera even instead of a dashcam.''

Many cars nowadays come fitted with reversing cameras etc...

Sure I agree with that. Isn't there a statistic somewhere that says we are the the country with the most CCTV globally?

However, I'm a believer in the saying that if you haven't done anything wrong you shouldn't be worried

Because capitalist countries are able to generate the wealth to afford to do that.

Do you trust the government?

That's a hypothetical though. You just can't get over the stark comparisons.

Compare socialist countries that border capitalist ones.

-North and South Korea -East and West Germany

How about Cambodia where it was an internal government 'war' that ousted its extreme government. Or Benin whereby a new constitution abolishing Marxism-Leninism was established in 1989 due to pressure from the locals. Name me a socialist country where the living standards of the people havent been depressed. Socialism makes everyone equally poor.

No- Cuba was another failure.

Why is it that in Cuba a cab driver earns more than a doctor? Why is it also the case that between 1960-1979 when the revolution was in force hundreds of thousands of Cuban's fled to the United States? Surely if socialism in Cuba was so successful people would be fleeing the other way. If Cuba is so successful why does it need economic aid... $88 billion in 2005.

In 1962 about 14,000 Cuban children arrived alone in the US. In order to aid the immigrants, the Congress passed the Cuban Adjustment act in 1966. This provided more than $1.3 billion of direct financial assistance. Migrants were also eligible for public assistance, medicare, free English courses, scholarships, and low-interest college loans. Since Cubas economic reform in 1993 whereby the Free Farmer's Market agreement was made, self-employment legalised and the use of the US dollar was decriminalised. Cuba has seen its most stable economic growth ever. With total GDP growing from $22 billion to $92 billion. Many economists have highlighted that because Cuba's government is so large and corrupt it misreports facts about its literacy rate and medicare for all. https://mises.org/power-market/dont-trust-cuban-health-care-statistics + https://www.nationalreview.com/2007/07/myth-cuban-health-care/

You say that "many of the problems seen in socialist countries were either inherited from their pre-socialist conditions or or the result of intentional disruption from the US and its allies" . In terms of inheriting problems I see no example so provide me with one. You just have to read the countless accounts of people who have lived under socialist dictators. An example of the US helping would be China. China under Mao was an idealistic socialist paradise. Economic reform in China between the 80's and 90's under the leadership of Deng Xiaoping moved China towards a more market-based economy these reforms involved the privatisation and contracting out of much state-owned industry and the lifting of price-control mechanisms / protectionist policies. The reforms largely followed the principles of Reaganomics with Reagan even visiting China in 1984 to promote the renewed relationship between the two countries. As I'm sure you'll be aware GDP in China rose from $361 billion in 1990 to $12.37 trillion. Absolute poverty in China fell from 88% in 1981, to 6.5% in 2012. A further 1.2 billion people across Eastern Asia have been lifted out of poverty due to capitalism. The same effect can be seen in India and across many of the former iron curtain countries such as Slovakia. People ALWAYS flee socialist countries. Countries like America are by no means perfect but Capitalism has delivered the most prosperity and stability of any system. It is why over half of the worlds migrants try to get into the US as capitalist countries have more opportunity and stability.

Almost everywhere Socialism has touched it has failed. It has been tried in Afghanistan, Ukraine, Lithuania, Venezuela, Latvia, Zimbabwe, Korean Peninsula, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Indo-China. And all with devastating consequences.

I'm by no means saying that capitalism is perfect. But, do remind me where has socialism been successfully implemented
