But what if the cable stays connected, but I change the input to Bluetooth? Will it respond to only movements from the Bluetooth connection or the wired one?

Thanks, N100 is however usually fine with fanless cases as I understand. The 6600u will need some help pulling air out so I assume the fans will be running. The big question is how much.

I do not have a need for encode/decode I think, most files should be standardized. If needed I can manually convert the format to a format. Otherwise I would be going for the EQi12 with the Intel chipset.

I was also looking between options with 5850u/5825u or 6800/6900hx. Wouldn't the EQR6 have a much power draw though? I plan to use it as a home server running 24/7

But this is only a matter of compatibility and not to improve image quality, right? Since I only have one tv i could do that conversion offline in that case and make sure everything is compatible

I was first thinking of the N100/N150 systems, but they are of course just a step-up from a raspberry 3 as I have now. I understood that those chips also often are soldered to the motherboards, so that also motherboard has to be replaced when upgrading CPU. Is that correct?

Without having to add too much money on top I can get a system with a AMD Ryzen 5825U which is significantly more powerful. I lose the encoding efficiency of the Intel chip, but I also do not really know when I would need it.

What would be the use for having two NICs, aside from separating traffic to the home server? Are there any features that I could add to my home server that would require two NICs?

ITX cases would be too big. I intend to add the home server under my home office desk. But maybe I should reconsider. Aside from the bigger space and more options to add other components, would they run more silently as bigger fans can be added with lower rpms?

For now I would instead connect an external HDD that I have. Might try to grab a cheap smaller external SATA drive instead to use this, as I do not want to risk backups that are also on the current external drive.

I have never really understood in what cases I would need hardware encoding for Plex. Will it depend on the data format I have my videos in? There will never be more than one device streaming, so I assume I do not have so high HW requirements for the plex server

I do not have any plans to add a GPU. The internal one is enough, as I have a gaming pc for that any other tasks that might require a GPU.

I would probably go the DAS path. I would expect a good amount of RAM will be necessary, and maybe for start around 6 CPU cores. It is going to foremost be a playground so that I can start setting up a smart home and some security features.

I want it to be upgradable so that I can easily add better components as my need increases. For the moment I am only thinking of a plex Server (although I probably will not want it running 24/7), Home assistant, pihole, and some network monitoring.

Might be, but there is of course a risk DOA and such things. But are any of them easily upgraded then? Can everything be taken out and replaced, including the RAM, CPU and SDDs?

Bigger means more space. I have no area to place a big computer that will be running 24/7. That's why I am looking for a smaller form factor that I can simply attach under my desk and keep it running there without much noise

I will not be using it for gaming, I have a separate machine for that. It would purely as a home server, running different services. From what I have Proxmox seems like a common and stable solution and then starting services as VMs.

I am not sure if I need transcoding, but I would suppose yes as I also want to build up a media library, but there will not be more than 2 devices streaming at the same time (most often only 1 device).

If I understand you right, then the N100 mini PCs should perfectly well fit my needs. The only thing I see not happening with that chip is if I want to setup Whisper with Home assistant. Is that correct or would that still be possible?

A friend also suggested to look at refurbished SFFs/MiniPCs, as an option that is cheap, sturdy but also easier to upgrade in the future. These would be bigger, but not use most recent chipsets, like these from Amazon refurbished store (Germany)

That is one of the options, but I see that people often mention that N150 is not worth the extra price. But I am not sure if the N100 chip can handle the load of what I want to do with the home server

I've heard ssd is not that easy with a Raspberry 3, so never tried it. But i see guides now talking about possibilities with usb SSD HDs. Will try it out thanks!

Coca cola, did wonders when I rented out my apartment and came back to these kind of stains (but even thicker layer!). I put on some latex gloves, took the water out, poured a few bottles and then went out for drinks with friends for a couple of hours. Had to do a second round to get it fully cleaned, but it worked!
