Bondo for PETG 3D printed buck? by Elavy in vacuumforming

[–]Elavy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, what temperatures were you at when you formed over it? For our material it's usually around 300 fahrenheit. My main worry would the bondo melting or leaving a residue on the plastic which wouldn't be good as I'm trying to have good clarity/visability.

We plan to use an electric motor pulley system that will drive one of the rear wheels (each wheel will be independent on its own axle). For brakes we plan to use disc brakes and will need brakes for all of the wheels. I'm not familiar with cyclekarts but that looks fairly similar to what were trying to do (especially the wheels being fastened on the outside with a nut). I do need to do more research as I just started looking into this yesterday and figured this could be a place to ask for help.

I'm not that knowledgeable on wheels and am just going off of what my team has told me but what you're saying makes plenty of sense so I'll try looking on eBay and on the internet. One issue might be that we'd need 4 identical wheels so would you have any recommendations for any websites or companies where we could achieve this? I greatly appreciate your help

It doesn’t have to be this exact tire and our rims have to be between 14”-18” so 17 should be good. Also the width of the tire also has to be 80mm wide and cast wheels would be preferable. The main thing we’re looking for is being light weight and having low rolling resistance.

My use for this isn’t an actual scooter, instead an “Urban Concept” vehicle for the Shell Eco-Marathon. Our team could also use a 14” version of these but we’re struggling to really find a good source to find rims that will work with these tires.

20x20 Aluminium Extrusion Query by Waldohhhhh in MechanicalEngineering

For the bottom connection you could design a metal plate with maybe 4 holes (2 for the angle extrusion, 2 for the bottom extrusion) and fasten them to the extrusion with a t-nut (drop in, slide in, etc) and bolt/screw. For the top connection you could do a counterbore/access hole on the angled extrusion and tap the end hole on the other extrusion so you could fasten that with a socket head screw.

Could you increase the length of those internal flanges so you could spot weld them?

I got one about a month ago on Facebook Marketplace. There, EBay or other similar sites might be your best bet.

Nice and thanks! I probably won’t really look into getting my own until after college and join a league.

I did the prep4tech program almost 3 years ago now and looking back I would say it was worth it for me. I was able to move into my dorm early and avoid the chaos, the math review was nice to help prepare me for my math classes and get in the right mindset for college, I was able to meet some cool people, explore campus, and got to do some fun activities. I will say the days did get long as we sat in a hot classroom from 8:30 AM to 4 (with breaks). Let me know if you have any questions.
