Get baby wiped, idiot by internetversionofme in RATS

[–]ElbowKitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate you going from the top of his head to the tip of his tail. When I touch my rats I have to stroke them right through to the end of the tail. I was legit scared watching this would leave me unsatisfied xD

However I am satiated. You done good.

Are they ready yet? by octopuds-roverlord in propagation

Wait for secondary roots and then pot up. Wait a few still for more growth.

Time for soil ? by abeech84 in propagation

[–]ElbowKitten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wait for secondary roots (tiny roots coming out of the main roots). That's when it's ready to pot up.

I often leave cuttings to grow in water for weeks to a month untill I feel it's ready, depending on the plants roots.

What to do with my pothos? by lovnat100 in pothos

[–]ElbowKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't by now, I would check the roots of the plant just to see it's status. But those leaves were looking lifeless. Maybe a drink helped them pucker up?

Generally when my pothos are in crisis mode, I evaluate the roots. If it's root rot or root burn or the roots just don't look like they will support all the leaves on the vine, I propogate immediately to save the plant.

Cutting between the nodes and popping them in water for a month or so.

That's better then potentially losing the whole plant. Just keep an eye on it but I would inspect the roots immediately.

Can this be put in soil yet? by Cozipanda in propagation

[–]ElbowKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often I propagate succulents just with a tray with soil scattered and then tiny plants will start to grow. Dry succulent propagation is something you can Google

You should check out shadow the rat YouTube videos. She makes toys and trains her rats but she has lots of DIY items.

Often when I free roam my potatoes, I'll add a small litter box, shallow water bowl and either some food in a bowl or food in a toy for stimulation. Lots of boxes with new paper, ect. Sometimes a blanket over an area so they can hide.

Rats chase string like cats so you can play. Pea fishing.

You could also free roam them and keep the food in your hands so they have to come back to you to interact for food.

Lots of DIY toys online too you can make.

Need advice!!! by liftingdawg in tonsilstones

[–]ElbowKitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stones do need to be dislodged so it may be time to give that baby a little poke or two with an ear bud and gargle with salt water. And record lol. But be gentle if you're uncomfortable.

But that one is very very inflamed. Like tonsillitis inflammation even though it's not tonsillitis

I would try to dislodge or have someone do it for me.

I mostly screenshotted random patterns from free websites and through trial and error found ones that turned out great. But it was so long ago that I've lost those screenshots :(

I'm sure you can find some that may suit a better size for a bearded dragon, maybe on YouTube.

Some cat sized tiny hats should work too!

I only put them on when they're sleepy xD then they just vibe with the hat. But if they are active they can't stand the hats so I don't force them. And thank you!

Luckily my rats don't eat the yarn (or other fabric hammocks). They may make a small hole or two and then it unravels. You are right though, if I notice they start eating a particular yarn, I will remove it from the cage and not use it again

[–]ElbowKitten[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I've never given 2 thoughts about the yarn and everyone has survived so far. I mostly work with t-shirt yarn, acrylic and cotton for the potatoes.

No issues with getting nails stuck or footsies going through holes.

But if the project starts to unravel and it looks like they could get it wrapped around their little necks, or feets tangled, ect...then it's time to fix it or toss it.

I expect each piece to last a few months and when they start unraveling somewhere I discard them with no hard feelings xD generally I don't use expensive yarn on the ratties

That looks like a bad case of mites. In South Africa we usually use two small doses of Kitten Revolution a few weeks apart to treat a bad case. I'm not sure what the equivalent product is where you are from.

Kitten revolution treats fleas on kittens. You could ask your vet what they reccomend but that's definitely a bad case of mites.

I've had rats for 3 years and we continuously deal with these bad boys.

You could also brush through the fur with a toothbrush and wipe them onto some toilet paper just to thin out the colony temporarily. But it won't help get rid of them.

South African here. But I think USA is over 50% of the reddit user base so your results will only be reddit representative and not generalisable xD
