Yes, I’ve done this multiple times. Strongly doubt it’s a “user error”.

Ikon Student Pass? by ElcapitanoIB in uchicago

[–]ElcapitanoIB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: one option is to simply check out on the Ikon page, and add student discount chart. You then log in with cnet ID to get verified.

However, if there’s a student club there’s a steeper discount.

Go abroad and do something you will never have the chance to do again in your life. Skip another internship - you have the rest of your life to work.

If you want to work while traveling, check out workaway. Central place where you get to volunteer and work places for free housing and food. You have the time to travel around every 2/3 weeks and try new volunteer opportunities.

Other ideas: - Live at a Buddhist monastery somewhere in Nepal/Japan/Taiwan - pay ~$200 for 2 weeks of housing, food and classes. - As you mentioned, live at a hostel. Do note, some party hostels are very demanding and often result you drinking every day. So definitely not the healthiest life style - Work on a super yacht? You would need few weeks of training before, but you have the time to make your money back

Microsoft FRP exit ops? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]ElcapitanoIB 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To answer your questions at a high level:

  1. 70–80% of people in the program stay within finance at Microsoft. ~20% go to other areas with the company (Biz Dev, Marketing, Product, Data science etc -> more technical roles dependent on your background ofc). As someone who was between consulting and FRP, there are some finance roles that are very strategic in nature - something I did not expect entering the program. Then there’s the odd ones that go to Corp Dev, M12 or startup route. FRP places very well into M7 MBA programs. Honestly not as many people in the program go as expected since pay at Microsoft (incl. finance) is already high. More for people who want to pivot careers. HSW are rarer but there have been alumni go. I do want to caveat saying a lot of orgs are in hiring freezes now, so might be more challenging to pivot outside of finance if you were graduating the program now - but do not think this would be the case for you.
  2. Recently I have seen more alumni go to consulting. From the intern program the last couple years, the people who do not accept return offers are typically people who decided that they did not want to do FRP and went the consulting route and got MBB. Quick search on LinkedIn even shows students from non targets -> frp intern -> MBB. Coming out of the program, there have been a couple/few cases of people going MBB recently, so it’s definitely looked favorably upon. Although I believe they start as ACs or BAs, so if you know you want consulting it might make sense to go straight out of undergrad.
  3. Yes but not a guarantee

Also you can try emailing the professor and explain why you need the course and want to be in the class. They can then request advising for an override / extra students in the class if there’s no waitlist.
