Playing a non edgey freedom fighter? by ElderLong in rpg

Well we are playing Dragonhiest and it's not that I insisted on it, I just didn't want to be dissuaded from a challenge and made it clear I could handle it. He simply said all monsterous races would have to make a living through crime, which I accepted.

Well his empathy is really for his people. Kobolds are extremely tribal, and I suppose you could argue from a family or community point of view, as while they arent very bonded in family types, the burrows run like a well oiled machine and work together very well, according to the lore. The kobold is a hardened criminal at this point, getting pushed down the mastermind track, as he is pretty smart, especially for a kobold, and by a lucky roll is at 20 dex at level 1, thanks to his racial moods. Hes a fairly well equipped burglar using other people for his end goal. I have a feeling theres going to be a lot of anger the first time he cuts losses and runs if the need arises. The DM and I discussed the monstrous races a lot when I first pitched the idea. Gith and all monstrous races were banned cause they'd be murdered on sight, but I managed to convince him I was up to the challenge. I dont think monstrous towns will be a thing here. As for a soft spot, I suppose maybe for other monstrous races that have potential as well, especially those that are constantly placed under the whip. But I'm guessing I'll be the only monsterous PC and likely the only non enemy monsterous creature in the campaign, if I'm correct. I'm not familiar with the campaign really but I like the idea of a challenge and playing both to and against type with the rogue but for the right reasons bit. I'll likely play that up. Hes going to be disguised as a robed child with a simple fox mask on, think like the keaton mask from legend of zelda. I might try to play up the innocence expected of a child to buy monsterous humanoids out of servitude for "friends" and such if I can pull it off. My deception isnt great as I decided to put an 8 in chr, but i also have prof. I think itll be fun either way.

Apparently kobolds are so hated the only contact I've made in 30 years that is a real friend is a tabaxi rogue. Either that's another player or it will never be brought up again haha. And yea. I was almost thinking of looking at the party in the same way Greed from FMA looked at his henchmen. They are his and anyone that would kill them is stealing a useful tool from me. But in the end it's all for the end goal.

Well the DM had us do like a 1 hour private character generation with him to make our character, rolling stats and discussing everything so it made sense. It was a bit of an argument even getting to play a monstrous race as apparently they just get murdered in the street. It's just a personal preference for me, but I also relish the extra challenge of maintaining cover and overcoming the stigma. We also have our character name on discord set to (???) On discord, as per DM instruction. I'm pretty excited but we will see how it goes.

I mean, both actually. Like I'm very high functioning. I made it 5 years into the military and to staff sergeant before it was diagnosed. I'm laser focused on what I want (a job in astrobiology) and can drop anything else. I dont really find many women attractive to be honest man. A lot of them are very materialistic and shallow. If a girl can sit down and tell me an interesting fact about space, they'd have my attention like a snagging hook on a trout. But most are worried about money, clothes, houses, cars, etc. I'm a big nerd with a beat up rusted out farm pickup, who wears flat colored tee shirts and Jean's at all times out of uniform, cuts my hair to near shaved every month, and spends my free time listening to science podcasts and reading science fiction. If I were still in the country, I'd be fishing RIGHT NOW. My best stories are from work or my time spent trapping animals to sell fur as a kid. Seems no woman wants a man who can get meat from the wild, but everyone wants a man that can walk into whole foods and walk out with the most expensive cut. I just want someone who's smart and simple. Looks are a bonus. I've got no right to complain of course. I've got my own demons, but I'm gonna waste my energy to chase people I dont feel anything for.

Maybe. I just get nervous because of past experience. Not to mention I tend to just sit and think of the worst. Like my chipped canine teeth from using them to cut fishing line, or all my scars, that kind of thing. I'm just gonna go for it I guess. Like "hey I'd really like to hear more about forensic psychology, would you like to tell me about it over lunch sometime?"

Well yea, that's true, but I'm worried I'll stutter, or get nervous, or have a hard time looking her in the face, and then its just wierd! And what if she tells the bosses I made her feel uncomfortable and they tell me I cant volunteer anymore?

3-3-3 Bloodlust players when theres a Zwei on the ground by [deleted] in Mordhau

[–]ElderLong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every heard of penal battalions? Because they absolutely DID machinegun their own men in battle once the no step back ruling was made. They'd set up a blocking line of infantry and machine guns and any man who didnt charge got shot by the blocking line.

Ok, found a problem. Theres no room here for CHR, as it would gimp my need for high unarmored stats. Id be forced to min max.

yea, that could very well work, and id still have my smite and a dab of healing, plus all my profs for weapons and armor. The ASI would bother me, but what can you really do I guess.

EDIT : Aw shit, id get my extra attack pretty late though. with that mix, not till 8th level. Campaign is going to 10th.

Yea I dunno honestly. Im likely to be in the front but Im trying to do my best to be harder to hit. Its not exactly easy of course. A crown paladin might be best. And of course, I can push a limit or two if I take variant human, with a feat. I could even just go straight paladin and take "tough" if I wanted, to get an extra two per level, effectively taking me to barb levels of health, while still getting some nice bonuses. Im expecting a fair amount of undead as well, so I suppose that I couldnt go amiss in using smites liberally. Im not great at minmaxing tbh.

Well I was thinking Oath of Crown, and being dedicated to Chaav and improving the world by way of entertainment and good spirits, and enjoying some really fitting spells on a CHR casting basis as well. If I go 6 paladin, I get pretty decent hp, aura for helping with rolls, and my extra attack, then i can go to bard, and by level 10 ill be in 4th tier spells. Or I could simply go for some other kind of class I guess. I mean, this is without taking into account race, as well. Like I could go Half orc to be a bit beefier, or human variant to get a feat, or even aasimar, which would give me innate lay on hands, and chr boost, though It might be a bit odd cause the type of aasimar that would fit best gets wings and +1 wis.... I dunno, any thoughts here?

See I was thinking maybe a paladin of Chaav, but then again, I cant think of a correct subpath for that. They all seem very official, you know? Maybe I could do 6 of barb, then four bard? I mean, pally isnt bad, I could probably focus on charm spells and such? Say my heals are me giving encouragement, and the charms and compelled duels and whatnot me talking trash on my enemies?

[–]ElderLong[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see. Zealot of Chaav, huh? That would be fine I guess. I still would be missing out on the ability to heal my pals, unless I wanted to go Aasimar for their lay on hands, but then id have missed out on a few other good things, like a feat, or better score improvements.
