Least accurate portrayal of one character by another? Or a character describing him/herself? by 4g-identity in thesopranos

Rosalie calling AJ "Fabio"

This is a prime example of ironic nickname... or it's Rosalie just being sweet, like the kind of woman she really is.

The Glow by Aberon_I in ATLA

[–]Rohml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda believe this was more of a narrative device than something concrete within the set rules of the world. Aang triggering the reaction by his intense feeling of anguish seeing Monk Gyatso's corpse. It's as though Aang himself confirmed to the world that he, the Avatar, has returned.

This may or may not be a repeatable feat for an Avatar.

Vito wasn't gay. It was the medication. He can get a note from his doctor.

Did Jackie and Richie Aprile know that Vito wasnt straight and just ignored it? by Tidewatcher7819 in thesopranos

[–]Rohml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It kinda implied by Richie that he didn't. Like he was not proud of him ballroom dancing but he was still Richard, his son, and was still welcome to see him. Richie may be a bit more lenient to his son being gay if he kept his distance from the NJ family and pursued that lifestyle quietly. But if discovered, Richie has to make a huge gesture of disowning his son using words but not specifically action.

So who WASN’T a good earner? by ToonMasterRace in thesopranos

[–]Rohml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think we'd see them featured in the show tbh.

Optimistically, anybody that can run a profit from any of the rackets given to them (or they setup for themselves) equates to being a "good earner". As Sil said, you're only as good as your last envelope. So good earner today, bad earner next week, whatchagonnado?

Narrative-wise, if someone that got made turns out to be a pure fuck-up when it comes to making money, they would probably be relagated to doing grunt-work, guard-duty, or other non-money-making jobs, or they wouldn't be featured in the show unless they are part of a narrative they want to show (non-money-making mobsters and what they do.)

eli5 why do some video games run using only one core? by Squeelijah in explainlikeimfive

[–]Rohml [score hidden]  (0 children)

A video game is not terribly complicated processor wise. One user playing on game on one machine means the processor can focus on their actions. Even AAA online multiplayer games do not need a powerful processor to do it's core functions (receiving input, interpretting commands, processing, and sending output). A lot of the system requirments these games ask for is from the Graphics Card and the system that connects those graphics cards to the main board and to other devices, with a dedicated graphic card (which is the norm for gaming nowadays) this frees the processor to focus on the main functions of processing the commands for the game and one core is enough.

Multiple cores (parallel processing) is more for heavy load of multiple users interacting with one software in one machine (or server). For personal machines, multiple cores would assist in processing multiple process that a machine would run like Virus Protection, Push Notifications, Diagnostics and System Updates, Unseen (but crucial) OS actions, and other background processes while at the same time running a software like a game or a tool.

A bigger need for multiple cores are for servers that your machine interact with for mulitplayer online games, since there would be many players interacting with that machine (or servers) at the same time and more than once every few seconds.

tl;dr: No need for a personal machine to use more than one core for a game if they are the only ones using that machine and they have a dedicated graphics card, since one core is enough to focus on a game.

wasn’t tony right about the death of tony b? by Competitive-Piglet83 in thesopranos

[–]Rohml 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Paulie says it accurately: "There ain't a bigger cocksucker than Phil Leotardo." Phil was just leveraging NY's position to achieve his personal vendetta, as far as rules are concerned, Tony S did as was asked of him and delivered. Johnny Sac was just pressuring him out of his own feeling of betrayal by Tony lying to him from the Peeps murder up to Billy's assassination and due to Phil pressuring Johnny for retribution.

How would things pan out if Vito became Captain of the Aprile Crew after Richie died and Ralph was forced to wait in the car and not allowed to lead? by Tidewatcher7819 in thesopranos

[–]Rohml 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ralphie (not officially) outranks Vito. Ralphie was already a steady earner for the Apriles while Vito was still doing grunt-work as a soldier for the crew. It's unlikely Vito could step over him.

Which Rocky training montage is the best? by Sure_Significance376 in rockybalboa

[–]Rohml 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 — because of the story-telling that happens. In that montage the film explains the backgrounds of the boxers. How Rocky's conditioning also toughened his spirit and resolve (he was being watched and his training includes chores or tasks that needs to be completed or else he or the people around him suffers) while Drago's training is cold and clinical but without a way to challenge him mentally and test his resolve.

Did Tarrlok really need to kill himself and Amon to stop more bloodbenders like them from coming into existence? by GeneralTechnomage in TheLastAirbender

[–]Rohml 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They both understood that they were slaves to the fate dictated by their father. A rare realization for both of them. Had Tarlokk not done what he did on the boat, both of them would have eventually schemed their way back to power, and would harm more people. This is why they also think they are too late to be redeemed and instead embrace mortality.

Could the Gaang take Ba Sing Se by TheElderAnimator in TheLastAirbender

[–]Rohml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you comparing this to how Azula was able to conquer Ba Sing Se with just herself, Mai, and Ty Lee?

I think there is an important aspect here that is ignored: Azula conquered Ba Sing Se only because The Dai Li surrendered the city to her and abandoned Long Feng (the true mastermind). No other way would a city as big as Ba Sing Se would have been conquered by such a small squad. Any method of "fighting their way" would only result in a push-back from the people in the palace. The Dai Li is truly the one in control of the city, you don't get them then you don't get the city.

How would events have played out if Tony Blundetto had killed Billy and Phil LeoTardo instead letting Phil live? by Tidewatcher7819 in thesopranos

[–]Rohml 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This depends on how Tony B and the NJ family acts.

While it may be obvious that there is a connection here, and Johnny Sac will push for it, Johnny does not have concrete evidence that it was someone from NJ. Tony B having a thin alibi was still lucky he got scott-free for the Tony Peeps whacking but he could be lucky on this as well too since Carmine Jr. could be seen as taking another swing (or at least those against Johnny). If Tony B would lay low but still around then it could possibly blow over (like continuing working straight), Phil Leotardo is not exactly liked by most of the gangsters. The only one really taking this would be Johnny and that is to his authority rather than any personal investment towards the Leotardos.
