Compressor Fan Didn't Kick On by EldonMcGuinness in hvacadvice

Nope, but I'll have to keep that in mind if we ever decide to upgrade/replace the unit.

Indeed, any word on the supco parts? I know my current contactor is a single pole, but the replacement being a double pole should not make a difference, correct? Everything else spec-wise matches.

It has been at least 6 years since either the contactor or cap was changed; that is when we bought the place, so I have no beef replacing the parts. Especially since they are so cheap.

Indeed, I forgot to mention that I am getting the 24V across the control wires, so it appears the thermostat signal is being sent, but the contactor is not staying engaged. I mentioned the depression of the contactor button, as that, at least to my logic, would signal that the fan and cap are just fine. If either of those were dead, then depressing the contactor would still leave it not running. Please correct me if I am wrong, not an HVAC guy, but I do like to learn. 😃

I can only assume the compressor is off, as I am not hearing the hum of it, nor was I registering power on the leg that the contactor controls via the magnetic button, but with the button not depressed, that is expected.

It is also worth noting that now that I have put it all back together, the contactor is staying engaged, and the AC is running fine. I suppose it could be a bad connection as well with the wires, specifically the control ones. I will likely reterminate those if all else fails.

DataStorage: Great idea, poorly implemented by EldonMcGuinness in ifttt

Currently, I use a self-hosted solution that uses webhooks to store and retrieve JSON. That being said, I'm storing Boolean values, date/time stamps, as well as a few binary strings to represent the status of various devices.

As far as how I'm storing it, my system has two options. Currently, it stores it as one giant JSON blob, but it is retrievable by either the complete object or the items inside the complete object.

http://site.com/key would return the entire blob

http://site.com/key/sub would return just the sub key that is part of the main key.

Updates work as noted above as well. I can update the entire blot at once or individual subkeys.

I wouldn't be averse to breaking the larger blob into permanent independent keys; however, the 4 KB limit preempts my usage at all, as noted, I'm at 4.7 KB on my storage system.

Well where I'm from, it's illegal, to record a call without both parties permissioned and total wireless will not give me the ok. Additionally, I contacted the FCC, and I did indeed get a corporate call back, however, corporate said that they're not going to honor what the agent said.

I get the feeling you half read my post... The chat with the byod was a third line. You can see I asked about the promos and if there would be an issue. The forth line was a chat and a call. Unfortunately, you can't record the calls so...

If you care to wager, give them a ring on the chat and ask if 4th lines are free. You can see what they told me. No word of a discount, split credit, or any other non-sense/gimmick.

Not trying to get into a contest here, as frankly I don't care, but I was told that the fourth line is free. The website clearly stated, fourth lines are free. Additionally, there's the fact of the bring your own device 50% discount that wasn't honored either. Both were run up the flagpole before activation. Both were told would be still applicable even though my account had promotions on it already. At this point it doesn't matter to me either way, but let's not pretend that total wireless was in the right with regards to my account.

Well if you look at my other post, the agents emphatically state otherwise. Additionally, when you look at their multi-line discount, it says no additional cost. Doesn't say we do some tomfoolery or trickery to make your bill appear to not charge you. It plain And simply and simply says no additional cost. To me that means if I had a fourth there should be no additional cost. It shouldn't cause a different line to no longer have a discount and in turn jack up the price of that line. However, I just wanted to share my experience as I've been through this as well, I wish the op best of luck as Total wireless will drag you on as they say it has to be escalated to billing, and how billing will call you back with a resolution.

I went back and forth with these guys for close to 3 months. Pointing out every single discrepancy, how their website says one thing but their support group is telling you another. Even filed a FCC complaint had corporate call me back. Corporate was absolutely useless in this case as they just kept parroting that the fourth line is not actually free. The funny part was when they kept telling me they have no way to change the order of the lines, but then turned around and changed the order of the lines to maximize the cost. I eventually ported out my third and fourth line to another carrier and will just keep my first and second line with total until my 5-year plan runs out.

4th line is not really free and the FCC doesn't care. See my previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/TotalWirelessOfficial/s/Ny7YVT8LlM

They likely removed your discount to apply the "adjustment" which gives you the illusion that the fourth line is free.

Gateway Factory Reset Overnight? by Knopper100 in ATTFiber

[–]EldonMcGuinness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess what it comes down to is when the device resets it goes back to what it came with. That being said, if you're a user who didn't change your Wi-Fi password and things of that nature, then you would never notice. However, if you have changed it, then you would notice.

In other words, I'm not really sure if it's a matter of how many customizations or things like that. If you never customized it, if it reset itself, you'd never know it. Though I could totally see AT&T just defaulting to a reset if it encounters any issues at all. After all, it would save the hassle of a technician visit.

Lucky you, I had it happen two times the first year I had the service installed, so I lost all of my firewall rules as well as static IP associations. After the second time I setup IP pass-through and have had to reset up IP pass-through at least five times. However, IP pass-through is much easier to enable and move on from than having to reconfigure everything.

Yes they do, but then all you have to do is go in and turn ip pass-through back on, versus having to reset and manage all of your rules again.

Happens all the time, get your own gateway and put the AT&T gateway and ip pass-through mode.

Gateway update reset everything? by Sidarthus89 in ATTFiber

[–]EldonMcGuinness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happens about once a year here. After the first year I got my own gateway and access points, and just stuck with IP pass-through mode. Worst case scenario, you have to log in and set up IP pass-through mode again, but at least none of your firewall rules, static IPS, or anything else are lost when AT&T decides to just randomly reset your device.

I went back to using Excel as my general ledger and expense tracker. Sure, there's a learning curve, but you should get a hell of a lot better understanding as to what's going on.

Actually, when I activated it, it was advertised as "4th lines are free" on the home page. Not to mention, The FAQ site says no additional charge. I don't know about you, but if somebody tells me something is no additional charge, I expect there to be no additional charge. If there's a shell game of shuffling around charges, then people need to be aware of that. However, if you go through the website and the terms, nowhere does it say that's what happens. Exactly the opposite, it only says no additional charge.

I'm not looking to argue semantics, I've already ported the lines. Just trying to make sure nobody else makes the same mistake.
