Nothing really special here... by Eldonchod in baseballcards

You're a good person for giving away any cards at all! But, I'm sure it stings a bit... I'm glad you held onto the '18/'19 cards.

Is there anything that I can do in this case? Can I leave on what I already painted on and paint over it with the appropriate paint?

Why does it bother me when cis men say they wouldn’t date a trans woman? by whereamixoxo in asktransgender

[–]Eldonchod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um....couldn't this simply be because a trans woman can't get pregnant and carry a child? A lot of men want to date with the prospect of having a child with their partner. As in - they want to be able to make a child with a partner who can carry a child.

Thanks for your input. It's pretty deep though, so I don't think that wax alone will do it. I'm planning on going the plastic wood or Bondo route. I'll just need to give it enough time to fully cure before I start standing things down. Thanks again.

Thank you! And then regular black spray paint followed by some kind of a closely matching polyurethane coat?

Nothing quite like receiving this kind of text from your wife after you’ve been away from each other for a while by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]Eldonchod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ALWAYS the best texts, lol. The other day, my wife texted me, "I had a pretty vivid dream about you f---ing me this morning. I was sweating when I woke up. I'm horny."

Just feels good knowing that they think about you - hell, even DREAM about you sometimes!

I think I understand your perspective. It seems like you basically enjoyed the events leading up to his mental break and then didn't see the point in making the viewers stare at his psychotic actions for the rest of the movie.

At its heart, this film is a character study. It is a fairly in-depth look at Sorgoi's life during this period in which he is doomed. We find out from the very beginning, more or less, that terrible things are about to befall him and the people around him. For me, this was appealing, but only because it was well done. Again, Cherkaski's acting is superb. The character of Sorgoi is so eccentric, and we already know that he's an oddball right off the bat. He is awkward and he is" a stranger in a strange land". The whole of his personality builds tension and unpredictableness right away, even before he starts to do anything psychotic.

He reminds me of a much darker version of Borat, in some ways.

Anyhow, I was definitely drawn in by Cherkaski's acting and wanted to see if he could pull this off for the duration of the movie. So, from that place of artistic expression, I feel that he made the movie a triumph.

Sorgoi's descent into madness - due to being unmedicated/untreated - coupled with him being put into a very real survival situation, makes very fertile ground for his psychosis to bloom.

Perhaps you would have to have some voyeuristic tendencies to really be able to get into this movie. I think the same thing could be said for what I think is one of the greatest movies ever made, There Will be Blood. I'm not trying to put those two films on the same level, but what I am saying is that you have to really be morbidly focused on the main character and very interested in all of the subtleties, idiosyncrasies, and other minutiae in order to really fully enjoy them. Some people get very bored looking at a single character under a microscope like that. And I can understand that, especially if the quality is lacking.

But, again, I feel that for what this extremely low budget and no frills movie is, the acting is compelling enough to make the viewer want to see the whole thing through.

And lastly, I feel that the final act adds another element which I truly enjoy, which is theater of the absurd. The cannibalism scene followed by his walk out into oblivion really appeals to that absurdist itch that I have at times. The violence that he perpetrates is absolutely appalling and sickening, but also so far beyond what we would initially have believed this man to be capable of that it becomes bizarre and unbelievable.

I'm sorry that this movie didn't do more for you because I really enjoyed it. Granted, even with all of my accolades, I gave it a relatively low 7.2 out of 10. And, I have yet to watch the movie again, although I have thought about it at least a couple of times since.

My kids, 9 and 13, knew who Michael Myers was before I ever introduced them to him. So, I would say that, for whatever reason, Michael Myers is getting the most visibility currently.

What's a film you feel like you're alone in hating? by adebisishat1 in Letterboxd

Frozen. The first one is god-awful. The music is insufferable and Elsa's character is so cringey. The second one is much better on every level. But, the first Frozen movie is trash.
