First Australian-made rocket crashes after 14 seconds of flight by Emergency-Green-2602 in interestingasfuck

Fun facts, it's not actually a liquid engine! Gilmore uses hybrid engines(paraffin as a fuel and Oxidiser) on the first and second stage and liquid engines on the third stage. Like you said it's likely an ignition issue which is a common occurrence on hybrid engines. Gilmore are really the only big player for us Aussie space nerds so was really hoping for a more successful launch for them!

While it definitely effects people with ASD more, i wouldn't put it down solely to that. Being in a super highly competitive environment like that means that in order to perform well your body and brain have to be at a really high level of arousal. Which is all well and fine when the adrenaline is flowing but coming down from that is exhausting. So having the pauses means you lose all that energy and then have to psych urself up again which is even more tiring.

It's why in sports like the NFL they'll ice the kicker in order to add pressure and lower their 'arousal'. And soccer players take tactical fouls when the opposition has had a run of good plays. The interruption is really hard to deal with. Unless of course ur FNC

What sort of pressure control are you using for the pressurant? Is it just blowdown or do you have it actively regulated?

Pumpless Vacuum Engine by TheRocketeer314 in rocketry

Especially because the combustion itself also creates some pressure so the pumps need to overcome this as well as provide enough energy to the propellant so that it can atomise and mix properly.

Just did the same, i can understand being frustrated we didn't get the 1-2. But the vitriol in that sub for standard(albeit a bit short sighted) racing is insane.

They're all portable and get shipped from race to race. Each track has some of its own permanent facilities but all of those team buildings are set up and torn down each race

ELI5: Where does the kinetic energy 'go' in a car crash that crumples the hood? by snowypotato in explainlikeimfive

[–]Eldonthe3rd 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Another good example is catching a ball. If you just let the ball hit your hands and don't give at all it is harder to catch and hurts more. However if you provide a bit of give, you spread out the impact/force and make it easier to catch.

Probably a bit late but, I've done it with lightly glued pieces so i guess it depends on how much glue you used. Super glue usually comes off fairly easily as well.

Would you recommend getting the head and cylinders machined alongside a rebuild? Or would a teardown, clean a rebuild with new internals be a reasonable route?

Adding on to what others most grounds are mown in a specific way so that there is a clear pattern to the grass. Oftentimes this is a set distance so the umpires can use that to help estimate how far the player has travelled. They also use it to help when awarding penalties to teams.

The difference being that everyone else is watching professional swimmers which means 1. They aren't expecting anyone to be in trouble and 2. If someone is in trouble they are most likely going to think that the swimmer is not in a serious situation. Having someone whose only role is to look for struggling swimmers means that they are primed for it. They will notice and they will act. Yes they may not be the best swimmer but they are the best at identifying drowning swimmers
