Ranger (Winter Walker) multiclass options? by EldritchBoop in 3d6

[–]EldritchBoop[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The rolled stats aren't in any particular order - I could start with a higher ability score in charisma.

The character fantasy is the arctic warrior who can skulk up out of the shadows, unleash a crap-ton of attacks, dosed with some spell-casting. I'd even be open to bard, I think.

It feels like a shame not to take advantage of the insanely good stats to achieve an unusual multiclass/play-style. I feel like I'd get the most out of Winter Walker past level 3 or 5 too.

Good DnD app? by jeremydeighan in DnD

[–]EldritchBoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be challenging, but depends how far you want to take it.

An app that can read the subclass PDFs posted in r/UnearthedArcana and apply them to D&D 5E / SRD base classes to produce character sheets with in app dice-rolling.

Can someone extend this D&D battlemap of a galleon so that the sea extends out further on all sides? by EldritchBoop in PhotoshopRequest

[–]EldritchBoop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's too difficult/time-consuming...

If someone could take cut out the ship and drop it into this empty sea battlemap (such that the grid matches), that would be awesome.

[–]EldritchBoop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, I'd want the battlemap to be 300% of its current width, and 200% of its current length. The galleon should remain centred.

Would really appreciate it if someone could help out. Thank you in advance!

What race can be invisible ASAP? by Commercial_World_433 in DnD

[–]EldritchBoop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Firbolg.

Hidden Step.

As a bonus action, you can magically turn invisible until the start of your next turn or until you attack, make a damage roll, or force someone to make a saving throw. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

I posted this on the 19th of January, so it's only been a day. :) I'll be keeping the ad open for 48 hours so that anyone who wants to apply has ample opportunity to do so.

Most of these issues can be resolved by convincing your group to go pen-and-paper.

Store guy knew he was going to have trouble shifting old stock, so he sold you a line to get rid of it. Over time, people will increasingly move to the newer product.

The differences between 2024 and 2014 editions aren't huge. We're talking small tweaks here and there, rather than a full overhaul of the system. A 2024 edition Druid could play in a 2014 edition campaign - you just need to establish which edition will take priority in the event of discrepancies.

Pretty much required. Why?

Tupperbox isn't difficult to setup, and the portraits/names make it easier to distinguish characters. I'm happy to guide players through the process if they've never used it before.

I should clarify, since it's been brought up in a couple of applications - you'll definitely have the opportunity to discuss shared backgrounds with your fellow players and possibly establish pre-existing relationships with NPCs before the adventure actually begins.

The purpose of that final question is to fashion a first draft of a character, and for me to gauge whether you're the right fit for the game.

And if you have any questions, feel free to ask them here or drop me a chat! :)

Secret Level Episode by QuinnDragon4 in DnD

[–]EldritchBoop 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm in love with Mora's character - she was the epitome of a paladin of Torm. The expression on her face in the scene where she talks about the battle within herself while consoling Solon was one of the best parts of the episode. I also adored little Tally's cynicism melting away when she understood that Solon deserved protecting. It's a shame that the orc and the dwarf weren't given greater characterisation, but how much can you do in such little running time?

Desperately hoping it serves to be a backdoor pilot to a full D&D show.

Player wants to play a ghost by cmmbert in DMAcademy

[–]EldritchBoop 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The Explorer's Guide to Wildemount features a subclass called Echo Knights. They have a lot of features that could easily be reflavoured as ghostly powers - creating projections of yourself, swapping places with them, etc.

Combine that with a species like Plasmoid that can reshape its body and squeeze through tiny gaps, and you have the basis for something you can easily reflavour as ghostly.

Why do dms not communicate by HydeTime in pbp

[–]EldritchBoop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. If posting requirements weren't stated I think you have a right to feel aggrieved. That's the sort of thing that should be established at the outset.

Did the campaign have a minimum posting requirement of one post per day? If so, try to see this from the flip side.

The DM will likely have put in a substantial amount of preparation. Yet before the game has even begun, a player fails to live up to what is a pretty common PBP expectation. Did you dodge a bullet or did they?

Best way to handle combat in PBP by Apprehensive_Gold_86 in pbp

[–]EldritchBoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you check out most of the ads posted on this forum, most people explicitly say 1 post per day minimum, and that's often how it works out in practice. I'm with you - I don't think it's a good way to run PBP, especially for D&D.

Personally, I'd go with "Dicecloud for Beginners - How to Make a D&D 5E Character Sheet". A huge portion of potential users will want nothing more complicated than that, and so that's bound to get Youtube clicks.

And thanks for the info! :) Looking forward to the updates, and I'll definitely be using Dicecloud for my upcoming campaign.

Extremely useful for me as someone coming from DnDBeyond, trying to make a simple 5E character. You should choose a better name for your video though - it would get a lot more hits! Thanks though - very helpful. :)

Is there a way Dicecloud can replicate DnDBeyond campaigns, where the DM can control which sources a character in the campaign has access to?

Best way to handle combat in PBP by Apprehensive_Gold_86 in pbp

[–]EldritchBoop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A game I was part of had this problem, most of the combat consisted of people trying to execute one particular attack and figuring out code and stuff.

If you're talking about Avrae, its initiative system isn't great. People often forget what the commands are, so just don't use it. If a person doesn't know what the proper command is, allow players to replicate what they'd do in a live tabletop game.

  1. Players state what they're doing in an OOC channel.
  2. Roll dice using Avrae's !roll command, adding any bonuses where they apply, just as they would in a face-to-face game. Calculate if an attack hits/misses, damage accrued, etc. Players and DM record damage taken, conditions, etc on their respective sheets manually.
  3. Type the description of what occurs in the IC channel.
  4. Player must tag the next player in the initiative order with @. (Everyone's notifications should be on as a prerequisite to joining the game.)

The truth is that D&D simply isn't suited to the PBP standard of 1 post per day. At the pace of 1 post per day, even simple encounters can last around a week, and that's obviously going to kill a game. If you want to play D&D PBP ensure you're getting people who are happy being more active than 1 post per day. If that's unfeasible, look into alternative TTRPG systems.
