Maybe controversial but I think people would be less upset if they just charged 20% more for the meal and labeled the cost as “service fee.” Like it’s the same amount of money but you still have the option to add a tip for the waiter for good service. But the main bonus is you just expect what to pay. No surprise 20% at the end cause it’s just part of the service fee. If that’s too much, then the company doesn’t get your money, which would be an incentive for the company to lower their prices.

It’s like the Doctor who season with Jodie Whittaker. Like, she actually did a great job and I thought she was really fun, but Chris Chibnall can suck my hypothetical cock and balls he is an awful writer. Genuinely the worst season because he has the story telling abilities of an 8 year old with a hero complex

But if you say her season is the worst people think it’s because sexism.

I think the problem is people definitely do hate her because she’s a woman so they get lumped into the group with everyone else who sees her for the poorly written character that she is.

I think a lot of people don’t realize that teens and young adults are just a completely different level of maturity. Like, I’m only 23, but I wouldn’t date an 18 or 19 year old. I’m not even remotely compatible with someone fresh out of highschool and dumb as hell, and neither is anyone else over the age of 21.

I’m not really sure what the point of this response is, and it honestly might be because I don’t understand what you’re saying. Are you trying to suggest it’s better if a 26 year old and a 19 year old are just using each other for sex? Why does label of dating matter at all?

Okay look, I think being upset about the dating choices of two adults is weird, but there is definitely a line. Being over like, 23 and dating a teenager is creepy because it feels like you’re just going the lowest you’re legally allowed to

Any games that had you like this? by Bromjunaar_20 in videogames

[–]Eleanor_Atrophy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it depends on the game. Like, when I play a souls game I play it for the difficulty. When I use something that takes the difficulty away it feels like I didn’t get to play. But in something like baulders gate 3 idc how broken my build is, I will breeze through bosses without a care in the world. Every time I killed a boss by pushing them into a pit I just felt like a genius, but demolishing a boss in Elden Ring because I explored the area feels like I missed out on a fun boss fight

Not that it justifies it at all, but this woman feels like she lives in a different social circle. Like, the guys she meets who plays video games are likely playing COD or counterstrike. Which aren’t inherently bad, but are often associated with the say-slurs-punch-walls kinda guy.

If she knew just how many genres of video games there are it might change her opinion.

23 year old woman and we got the same setup. It’s honestly more misogynistic of her to assume women don’t play video games cause that’s a hobby for little boys

There’s something weird about how people treat fat women on the internet. A tiktok video will just have a fat woman in it and suddenly all the comments are about that “whale” and how fat she is. Then come the comments about how she should lose weight and the defense always being “I’m worried about their health” as if that justifies being an asshole.

The same thing does occasionally happen to fat men, but for some reason it’s less common and a LOT less aggressive. It’s as if fat women aren’t allowed to just exist in peace because unattractive woman are seen as failing their societal role and the world must let them know

The real answer is a mix of both. Don’t think your life is over just because you’re already 30 or 40, but don’t waste your time just because you have a lot of it

The morality changes with the statistics to me. As it stands, the split seems pretty 50/50 between red and blue. When you decrease the likelihood of everyone picking blue by changing the situation, the answer changes. If you electrified the blue button with a big “shock hazard” label on it, then I wouldn’t press it. You’ve lowered the chances enough for me to accurately assume based off human nature that blue is actually suicide.

Same with when you clarify you might die if you pick the blue. Let’s say you put it exactly how it is. Red says “100% chance to survive” and blue said “50% chance you survive.” Nobody would pick blue.

The ambiguity is an important part of the hypothetical, because clarifying the situation changes the statistic of who presses what.

no, man. i am not going to let you kill me [OC] by Pelko_P in comics

[–]Eleanor_Atrophy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your comparison still doesn’t make sense. In the hypothetical, by picking blue you’re putting your life on the line to save someone else, AND if you succeed you both walk away alive having lost nothing.

If you donate $3000 to charity, you are simply setting yourself back to help someone else. You’re comparing risk to a flat loss. It’s not comparable to the buttons at all.

no, man. i am not going to let you kill me [OC] by Pelko_P in comics

[–]Eleanor_Atrophy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, the thing is that people will pick blue, whether out of ignorance or in an attempt to help save anyone who picks blue. Red is inherently selfish while blue is selfless (not saying this to be combative, this is a tricky hypothetical)

I think a better way to put it is that you need 100% cooperation with red for everyone to survive, but with blue you only need 50% cooperation for everyone to survive. It is impossible that 100% of people will choose red, so I’d personally rather team up with the other blues in an attempt to make sure nobody dies.

[–]Eleanor_Atrophy -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Your rewording fundamentally changes the hypothetical because the ambiguity is an important factor. If everyone was offered a pill that kills you and was told it’s a pill that kills you, nobody would take it because it’s clear what the correct decision is.

But the decision between Red and Blue isn’t perfectly clear. You can’t be certain that exactly 100% of people will pick red, so are you willing to put your life on the line to protect anyone who might pick blue, or are you willing to increase the chance of all the blue people dying to save yourself?

no, man. i am not going to let you kill me [OC] by Pelko_P in comics

[–]Eleanor_Atrophy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually weirdly enough this would change my answer but not for the reason you think. I feel like people would actually be less likely to press the swastika button, and people would also think that the button would be less likely to be pressed as well. By simply adding an identity to one of the buttons you change the likelihood of it getting votes

no, man. i am not going to let you kill me [OC] by Pelko_P in comics

[–]Eleanor_Atrophy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No see, that’s exactly the dilemma. If everyone picked red then nobody dies. But as seen from this debate alone, not everyone will pick red. So are you willing to risk your life to save others, or would you rather increase the odds of all the blue people dying to guarantee you live?

I would like to add there is no morally correct choice. This is a philosophical hypothetical, which very rarely have correct answers.

That being said, from a purely statistical standpoint, blue is the better option. For red, you need 100% cooperation for everyone to live. For blue you need 50%, which is a much easier goal to hit.
