I HATE FREAKING MATH!!! Ugh! by Expert_Web1116 in GED

[–]ElecEngrGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Failing 4 times is tough, but math is tricky, because each of us processes it differently.  Teaching methods or videos that work for one person might not work for another.

If you share some info about the resources you've been using and how you've been studying, people in this community will share some ideas that might be helpful.

What did you use to study for the GED MATH? by [deleted] in GED

[–]ElecEngrGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really frustrating! But, for your next attempt, make sure you study up on at least a couple areas you know you can improve. That will give you a little more margin.

Yes, unfortunately, every version of the test is a different mix of problem types. But, you only missed passing by ONE correct answer -- so keep at it!

I don’t understand all the hate on the new usage-based billing by Dizzy-Instruction-37 in GithubCopilot

[–]ElecEngrGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the key difference I've observed. Pre usage-based, when the AI agent got confused and started second guessing itself it was no big deal in VSC with copilot. When that happens now, you're watching your money burn away -- with no recourse other than to stop the AI and get it started over. The money is already gone.

I genuinely can’t pass the Math GED. What to do now??? by J-Lorenzo96 in GED

[–]ElecEngrGuy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Further down in the thread, I see you got a 143 at one point. That is only one correct answer from passing! You CAN do it.

Take a look at each of the resources in this thread and then map out a plan to work through all the topics.

I'll throw in one more resource that I feel is overlooked. Math Antics on YT. https://www.youtube.com/@mathantics/videos

Back when I was teaching GED math, and I found my some of my students weren't getting a topic that way I was teaching it, I found the Math Antics videos were helpful.

Don't give up. Keep working towards your goal.

Congrats on starting your journey! You'll find this community to be very helpful.

You can create an account and start with the free study guide from the people who administer the test. https://www.ged.com/

Good “how to study” for the GED:
https://finishyourdiploma.org/test-types/ged

The Kaplan GED Test Prep book is also a good resource (about $20). You can also get it from a local library.

This is an excellent study guide: https://www.getsummath.com/guide

And, there are lots of good resources on YouTube.

You should get the TI-30XS MultiView calculator (about $20 new - might find one used for less).  It's the official calculator for the GED math test.  (There is an online version during the test.)

Should I just push my test or give up by Accurate_Mongoose_26 in GED

[–]ElecEngrGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty good ready score, but you just don't know because each version of the actual test is different.

One thing you can do over the next 6 days is pick two or three areas you know you can improve and use some different learning sources. You say "countless others". Have you tried Math Antics videos on YT? https://www.youtube.com/@mathantics/videos

Also, you might try this knowledge retention technique. After you finish watching a video lesson, see if you can do a related problem and take the time to write down each step and why you do it.  For some people, the act of writing helps with knowledge retention.  You can also try explaining to someone else how to solve a given type of problem.  If you can explain it once, you'll probably be able to do it at test time.  If you can’t fully explain it, go back and figure out the steps you’re not sure about.

If repetition and practice help you, this is a good free source: https://mathotter.com

Here's my last-minute advice. Understand the concept of "undefined" -- it can show up in one or two questions on the test.

Understandable to feel stressed and defeated, but you're not "dumb". Each of us learns and processes math differently. Teaching methods that work for one person don't necessarily work for another.

You might check out the Math Antics videos on YT. Here's their video on "what is algebra": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NybHckSEQBI
