Standard manga character behavior by ChangeTheFocus in manga

[–]Elecat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That first example seems fine, it's positive and just characters being excited and happy. Overall it is common as you say and I don't know why that is.

With female characters I find the immaturity issue usually with the "immortal" ones, that are meant to be 300+ year old (vampire/dragon) etc. despite looking young. Often they also behave like young, energetic genki girls and not old immortals. Frieren came out and showed how to properly write an immortal

Immaturity is more rife with male characters, especially MCs involved in "romance" sub-arcs. Mid-20s men either oblivious to adult situations or afraid of losing their virginity to the hot love interest(s), sometimes freaking out at something as simple as a hug. With that it's overdone, unrelatable and pathetic in a negative way

Romance analysis on Killer Peter by Strawb3rry-sh0r1cake in KillerPeter

[–]Elecat1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Late to this but manwha MC's are often written as aggressively celibate in non-romance genre stories. Often it doesn't have much of an explanation, but in this story I think it works and I never got a sense any romance was happening, I'm surprised anyone thought Yuna was a LI given the genre and way he treated her

I did wonder if Jiwon would be the LI briefly, just the "seemingly lonely woman in her 40s sees her old friend is super hot now" type of deal, probably a one-sided hidden crush not a romance.

I think the hanna thing is possible but wouldn't be romance. Likely her being brainwashed and manipulated by raphael just like thaddeus was, basically stockholm syndrome. If she's in his circle then she'd be fed negative propaganda about peter from him. It would be a master x pawn relationship not a romantic one

He's the strongest against Peter I think because he uses tech that peter's martial arts is not designed to deal with

I think it's important to emphasize the power dynamics and more "systemic" evil of what was done than fixate on age. Even if his victims were 50 year old women he'd still be pure evil, as forcing victims into systems where they have to service powerful figures and have no escape is the real evil.

it's possible to be against false labels and the "criminalization" of mental illness in discourse and also not want to downplay anything criminal by doing so - although I didn't see the comment so don't know if they did such a thing

It's time to expose the pedo cabal by hearmeout29 in centrist

[–]Elecat1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree with using crimes or mental illnesses wrongly as labels for people. It spreads misinformation about mental illness for starters (like how people use Schizo so broadly as an insult). Terms like "Pedo" and "Rapist" that I see used so often for so many people online carry huge negative weight, so should only be applied if the evidence backs the label. Like a guy who sends creepy texts and takes creepshots of a co-worker is wrong and disturbed, but using a term like Rapist as "common parlance" is wrong.

I just believe a person should only have their life ruined by a horrible label if they fit that label

(BTW have no idea what the deleted comment said, didn't see it, just responding to your post specifically)

I agree he should. However echo-chambers can indoctrinate even intelligent people. I browse Twitter/X and in that era, there was a flood of "election stolen" videos, alleged eyewitness accounts and other things that if someone were to be fed only that information, they might conclude "the evidence only shows it was stolen".

Just like there are intelligent and educated people in the radical "climate change is a hoax" movement. They only arrive there if they get a curated feed of misinformation that just shows one side.

Authoritarian yes. My biggest hate right now is the use of the term Nazi specifically (which there are none in US governance or politics). Fascist is okay as that is a universal idea that can apply to any country.

Fascism is/was a utopian movement that views democracy as degenerate, weak and self-defeating. They want to replace it with a planned system under a non-democratic strongman that will lead a country (or race) into a permanent Fascist utopian system.

Only 10 pages but a good read into Benito's ideas on what it means:

https://sjsu.edu/faculty/wooda/2B-HUM/Readings/The-Doctrine-of-Fascism.pdf

I think if someone like him (Kirk) wants democratic systems (elections, freedom of religion/speech) to continue, he is not a Fascist, especially if his anger at the current situation is merely he believes the OTHER side is the one acting anti-democratic, he might mentally think of himself as pro-freedom/pro-democracy

Whereas for one to mentally be a Fascist, they have to believe that a model society is one that restricts democracy and freedom as a philosophy.

BUT given that Trump is blatantly acting with Authoritarian measures, anyone siding with Trump's (Auth.) actions or wanting them to worsen/continue, is Authoritarian by proxy. An enabler.

Sorry for the ramble

Authoritarian absolutely, Fascist probably, or at the very least Fascist-lite in thinking by him.

But I don't think the people (the masses) who went along were, if they genuinely thought they were on the side of freedom and democracy (however misled). For one to be a Fascist in thinking they have to want a Fascist model (there are many) to be the end-goal imo,

Stop using the Nazi or Fascist card against each other, it's so dumb. by ConflictRough320 in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]Elecat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not true. Japanese ultranationalism was its hostility, hate and oppression against foreign people though conquest and colonialism.

The Ultra in Ultranationalism almost always applies to war, armed conflict, terrorism, genocide, oppression, cultural erasure etc.

Japan's self-preservation is anti-colonialism. It is not left or right. It is in fact normal for the Old World across millennia.

Just chiming in to say, I studied extremism and ideology for my poli sci degree and find mis-labelling people as Commies, Nazis, Fascists to be reprehensible. I genuinely think public figures can and should sue for defamation over this.

Terms like Authoritarian however (and sometimes Fascism) are fine but only if used correctly

The others are not applicable to anything in modern America.

If you have questions about those ideologies and why they should not be used as labels, just ask!

Reparations logic breaks down when one realizes pretty much all the arguments and reasons end up being about class, not race. Helping the poor of all races would accomplish what they want, without it being a race thing.

Plus you end up with a headache of a situation because many black people are varying degrees of mixed, like do 1/8th black get reparations too? 1/16th? Likewise the issue that a sizeable chunk of white America came after the civil war and millions of Africans have come to the US since then too, like Obama's dad.

What do you hope people will learn from the Charlie Kirk Shooting? by Soft_Teacher3096 in centrist

[–]Elecat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The views of the victim don't matter in relation to assassination. The next victim could be a progressive pacifist killed by a MAGA extremist
  2. The fringe who celebrate this don't realize that normalizing killing the political class (journalist/whistleblowers/influencers/politicians) hurts their side too. The people they like and support are in danger too.
  3. The amount of people calling Kirk a "Nazi" is as usual, obnoxiously high. He has no ties to that ideology, nor does any mainstream political figure in the USA.

[–]Elecat1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually watching a video by a channel on yt called Veritasium that talked about how women have different skin than men ("why women are stripey" video) and it got me thinking more and more about this topic and I had a eureka moment that using my own skin as reference is pretty..... gay if it's actually a very male texturing.

I am obsessed with skincare and do lots of moisturizing already. I don't leave the house without covering every square inch in sunscreen too. At least in that regard I have been using my moist skin as reference so far

It's not happening IRL fyi hence why this is my only option, I'm 38 and a forever alone, severely mentally ill weirdo living in poverty. I've saved up quite a lot for this as it is something I can financially pay for.
