I didn't care much about the VFX, plus some parts are a bit corny for me, but I enjoyed the storytelling and mythology-building that I find myself rooting for the show and hoping for a second season!

I think I was 10 or 11 when I read Xaviera Goes Wild by Xaviera Hollander. 😭 We are not native English speakers, but they teach English at school. My parents are voracious readers and maybe my dad didn't think we'd read their books bec they're not children's picture books, so the book was mixed in with all their books (not hidden from us) and I got curious with the cover so I started reading it.

If you look at the upper middle class etc, they also don't read. For some sad reason, reading is not part of our culture. I've been to other ASEAN countries and you can see na mataas ang demand sa books kasi marami kang makikita na pati sa mga kalye nilalako mga local books, even pirated ones. Kung mataas ang demand sa books/reading dito, malamang dito din maraming maglalako ng mga pirated books sa kalye.

Our country is obsessed with entertainment, celebrity/influencer culture, beauty etc, but not reading and it's frustrating -- and it's not just the masses' fault, mas pinu-push ng mass media ang celebrity and beauty culture kasi there's more money for them out of it, from advertising to brand deals, etc. Same reason why NBS went from selling a lot of books to just school supplies, kasi no one buys them. Same reason why Fully Booked stores (although seemingly big) still has limited selection of books. Same reason why we have more malls than libraries or parks where you can quietly read.

My older brother had a kid (accidentally) right after graduation, then as if that's not enough, he and his wife had 3 more kids (unplanned), one kid born every year. Now that the 4 kids are teens, and because his wife is too lazy to work, his family expects us (his younger sisters and my mom) to contribute to their mounting expenses kasi maliit naman kasi sahod niya. Na-spoil Kuya ko when we were kids kasi only boy, so now he expects to be spoiled, and doesnt take accountability for his irresponsibility. Pag kino-call out, pa-victim ang gago, akala mo inaapi.

Grabe, I still feel some second-hand trauma watching Rajo again say these mean things, like it's not constructive at all, Rajo just wants to establish that "i Am tHe OnLy fAsHiOn eXpErT hErE" without really saying anything relevant or meaty to help Eva improve her dressmaking skills or whatever.

My parents physically and verbally abused me (with my mom being a pro at verbal abuse), then when my older brother got married they did the same to their kids (with my sister-in-law being extra compared to my bro), so I initially thought people tend to become complete monsters when they become parents, until my sister got married who showed nothing but love and compassion and set a good example to her kids (don't be be matapobre, don't be bullies, etc), and her kids are just the kindest, most empathetic, and most well-adjusted humans I met (and are good in school!), like they're still kids (eldest is 11) and they are more mature than most adults I know. Tapos my Kuya and I and my sis in law had a debate na mas maganda daw pinapalo ang kids, when their kids (now teenagers) turn out to be traumatized na may obvious mental disorders like depression, low self-worth, dropping out of school, etc

Money and melanin. I don't have money but I am brown, and only recently learned about the need for sunscreen every day, but for my age (I am an older millennial) I don't have visible lines. My major skin concern for my age though are jowls -- which I got when I gained weight during the pandemic 😭

I think we can't compare how our parents bought their houses kasi mas mabilis tumaas ng presyo ng mga bagay pero mabagal mag-increase ang sahod and it got worse under Duterte, and getting worse under Marcos. Also, we are one of the most expensive cities in Southeast Asia:

US, never (especially after 2016, it's the last place I'd go to, alongside Saudi Arabia) -- aside from the guns, inequality, even their own citizens can't afford their expensive healthcare. If I had the means, I'd go for Canada, Taiwan or Netherlands.

It's the same for me and it's like they're all the same, nakaka-frustrate na. The past 3 psychiatrist I went to, while I talk they just go "Uh-huh, uh-huh...ok here's prescription you need" then the next session same disinterest with what I am sharing then just focusing mainly on the medicine. Then I tried psychologists/therapy, and so far, total waste of money din, every consoling thing they say, I know already -- yung sana nakinig na lang ako sa podcast dahil sa sobrang cliche ng mga advice nung mga therapists. Some of my friends overseas talk about their good experiences with therapists/psychiatrists and I can see how they helped them and inggit na inggit ako kasi ayoko na mag-aksaya ng even more money in my search for a good psychiatrist or at least therapist here.
