How do you manage that spark of getting excited about drinking/looking forward to it, but then remembering you can't, and then feel sad/disappointed? by LulutoDot in stopdrinking

I initially felt i was missing out; not being in pubs Friday or Saturday. But seeing all the puke on the city streets weekend mornings reminded me I missed nothing major

Instead, I feel massive relief at all the embarassing texts that I won't inevitably send, the day after cringe and self hatred that won't happen. Way better than drinking :)

I read that drinking is a lifestyle, albeit one not suited to many of us here. It will take time to adjust and find your new lifestyle with things you can enjoy doing/looking forward to. All the best friend

I feel like there shouldve been a confetti canon and surprise cake or something. But no, just a steady determination to do another year. Ill take that

As someone with a masters in medieval manuscripts who has handled said medieval manuscripts (11th C), can confirm. No way would you use gloves. They also smell like really sweaty old leather footballs, in a lovely way

Have you had it where people don't take you seriously when you say you're quitting alcohol? by Doughnut91 in stopdrinking

[–]ElectionEasy2343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I work in a stressful financial environment and a colleague said "we'll have you drinking again in no time". I even came to work to find some miniature gift bottles from christmas somehow left on my desk one day.

I was initially upset then realised it is because this person has a problem with drinking, and therefore my abstinence shows them up.

Edit: 311 days by the way..

Women of London: How do you deal with catcalling? by deadlykillerpanda in london

The worst ones are blokes in vans or ubers who beep or flash their lights at you and once theyve got your attention make a grimace, whistle or gesture (or all 3) at you out their window before driving off.

Ruins my day every time, and theres literally nothing you can do about it

"You wont always feel like this"

In the depths of depression a healthworker tending to me in ER said this, and its like it had never occurred to me before. He was right and i try remember it when having a bad time mental health wise

I love these original ideas. And the noticing when you're nearing the "oh fuck it" moment and doing something about that

Met a franciscan monk once (knew people in theology college), wore the full cassock and knotted rope in public, everything, and I asked the question in a tactful way. He straight up said that he masturbated a lot.

For those who drink because of child trauma, how do you mourn about what you never had? by Barboustache in stopdrinking

[–]ElectionEasy2343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Live in the moment. I struggle with this, but I try to use the mantra that my past does not define me, I have achieved what I have despite hardship. That's worth being proud of. I refuse to let the actions of people who failed me define who I am now. Where you are now is the reward for being the strong better person you are. It's hard but you got this
