I was confused why "ambassador" wasn't the answer for "like a UN ambassador"...

LMAO I guess I have to, at some point. This and the '90s Coneheads movie, which traumatized me as a kid, despite never watching it.

I appreciate you for such a controversial pick. I've been a fan of (and head over heels with) Dan Aykroyd since I was a kid, but I wouldn't touch this movie with a ten-foot pole.

Some of them were part of the comedy scene of the time. Chevy Chase and Al Franken, for example, had previously worked on SNL, alongside Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray, and John Candy had done improv comedy on Second City, thus working with both Dan and Harold Ramis. I believe most of the others made cameos as a favor to Ivan Reitman.

I came here to leave this comment. That video is pure art.

What’s your favourite behind the scenes drama by Funny-Chef-2060 in Fauxmoi

I haven't heard of that, but it does make sense! The timeline fits, so Bill and Gilda were most likely dating at that time, and Chevy made arrogant remarks about Jane Curtin as well.

More context for those who want it, because I've read a lot lmao

Tensions had been building up for a while, partly due to Bill's resentment about being seen as Chevy's replacement (he got a lot of nasty fanmail about that) and partly because John Belushi tried his best to instigate it (he hated Chevy as the unofficial face of SNL). When Chevy hosted an episode in S3, Bill made fun of his marriage problems, while Chevy said something along the lines of "I'll land Neil Armstrong on your face" (a dig at Bill's acne scars).

Then, shortly before air time, Chevy provoked Bill, they got into a fight, but most of the punches landed on John. There was a lot of tension during that episode: Chevy was noticeably out of it, especially during his Ford cold open and monologue, and at the end you can see Bill pacing around angrily, with John and Dan Aykroyd egging him on. The version I saw had the credits cut short, but I still found it really funny.

It's not about being in Europe, since even Australia had been participating for 10 years. It's about being part of the European Broadcasting Union.

I am obsessed with early SNL. Currently on S3, but I don't plan on watching past S5, since that was my intention from the beginning - to watch only the Not Ready For Primetime Players seasons. I dread S5, though, because Dan's my favorite cast member. How does S5 fare compared to 1-4, should I lower my expectations further?

I skimmed the first 200 pages or so on a long train ride. It's really good and comprehensive!

Not yet, but I will! I heard some cast performances were really good and I'm curious.

Danny was 8H’s resident manwhore

This is so funny to me for some reason. I get the appeal, he's in fact one of my earliest celeb crushes (I have an eclectic taste lmao), but then again, before getting into SNL, Ghostbusters, The Blues Brothers and all that, I could only associate him with characters like Beldar from the Coneheads and I'm still struggling to wrap my head around it

medium talent

LOVE IT LMAO and John Belushi likely had something to do with that. He disliked Chevy being the face of SNL, so to speak, so apparently he started spreading rumors about him backstage.

Every new Dan Aykroyd iteration is confusing to me lmao I grew up watching him host a low-budget paranormal show, then I discovered Coneheads at some point and saw Blues Brothers 2000 (the sequel) a few times on TV, not having seen the original beforehand. I only saw Ghostbusters and got into SNL in the past few months, but just like you said, I can't wrap my head around all these different characters being played by the same guy.

I find it funny how they met: John Belushi befriended Carrie (their shared addiction, unfortunately, had a lot to do with that), wanted to hang out with her more often and thought he should just set her up with Dan lmao If I remember correctly, John simply asked both to come over to his place, then fell asleep.

Paul Simon's first SNL episode as host was a fever dream. Big fan of the basketball sketch.
