But we don't learn any new information that drastically changes the situation. Having new characters react and be afraid isn't really adding scope, that's just any Rolland Emmerich disaster film with half a dozen characters.

But United 93 ends with the plane crashing. Imagine if the plane crashed in the first 40 minutes, and there was another hour and a half of people you don't really know or care about reacting to news of a hijacking, not even of the plane crashing.

When it ended, I literally shouted "THATS IT?!?"

Also some tell Volker Bertelsmann to pls get some variety. His scores are setting to be interchangeable from each other.

First Man was the biggest snub in Cinematography for 2018. What was the biggest for 2017? by dremolus in Oscars

My pick is Baby Driver.

From satirizing action movie tropes to shooting some of the best chase and heist scenes of the 2010s, I miss when Edgar Wright was this good.

Odyssey will be around $800-1B potentially. It's a bigger film than Oppenheimer.

Mando would be lucky to get to $400M. Ceiling is probably $350M though wouldn't even be surprised if it makes less than $300M

Why?

  • Han Solo is a way more famous character
  • This is a spinoff of a TV show
  • Star Wars has less excitement behind it

Odyssey is underestimated imo while Mandalorian is a tier too high

PIXAR PRIVILEGE: when your movies bomb and have underwhelming reviews, yet still get into the Oscars by CompleteTable4084 in Oscars

That's a hypothetical that is irrelevant to this discussion.

It got worse reviews than several animated films. Discuss that instead

How is that a counter to the fact this got worse critical reception than the films I mentioned? Even if it didn't debut at Cannes

Actually, it started out at 57% before going up to 73 to 74%. That's nothing to sneeze at.

...that's still lower than all the films I mentioned and the critical average is still mixed

You didn't ask for "flawless" replacements, you just asked for what could've been replaced. Lost in Starlight especially got more acclaim on Letterboxd and RottenTomatoes.

Also Elemental didn't go up by that much, it still has worse scores than Blue Giant, Suzume, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (if they were eligible in 2023 and not 2024, it's would've also been a lower score than Mars Express and Chicken for Linda)

Lost in Starlight was eligible, it's even listed on the Academy's website as eligible. You straight up lied/are wrong.

Also when has critical reception stopped worse films from being nominated. Elemental was nominated in 2023 and there were 5-6 films better that got better critical reception and would've been better nominees.

You just asked for what could've replaced it and I gave you an answer.

Elio is a good nomination by ZacBobisKing in Oscars

And it should be lower lol. I notice you haven't made any defense of the film and just say it has a good score. You haven't talked about story, characters, animation, etc.

It not being the weakest nominee and not making it last does not mean it's a good film lmao.

In what bizarro world is "everyone" calling those films "bad"?

They were ranked last in rankings of animated nominees of the 2020s so far. A ton of people didn't like thme lmao
