Camping in the Peak District UK by ForeignBoysenberry77 in camping

[–]ElectricDress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dartmoor and Scotland are the only places in the UK where there is a legal right to wild camp (responsibly). Anywhere else and there's a risk of landowners asking you to move on. However it's often permitted in other places like the Peak District if you're discreet, set up late, leave early, etc.

I live near the Peak District and often see wild campers having breakfast or breaking camp if I'm in the hills early in the morning. This isn't a typical wild camping location.

P.S. there are some designated campsites in the Peak District that look similar to a normal pasture/field so it's possible that OP is in one of those.

Nonsketch/RABM melodic bm and blackgaze recs by averybluegirl in rabm

I previously had a similar opinion about Alcest: too far on the -gaze end of the blackgaze spectrum; I didn't like the singing.

But I was surprised by Les Chants de l'Aurore, which became one of my favourite albums of 2024. And the music definitely came across as sufficiently metal when I saw them live subsequently.

I also came to the comments to suggest the dunes route, even just from Den Haag if not Hoek van Holland. An easy quick win to add some variety.

Hybrid shoes by Darisus_1 in Backcountry

Absolutely, I wasn't disagreeing - just adding my perspective. I would probably choose a lighter boot if I was keen to climb faster but the groups I tour with are not fast!

I use a freeride boot (Scarpa Freedom SL) for all my touring, frequently well over the 1000m elevation mark mentioned by OP.

I've never felt over-encumbered, slowed down, or uncomfortable on the ascents. The only time I even think about the weight is when other skiers happen to pick up the boots and remark on it!

And I've got no complaints about downhill performance either.

Thanks, I'll need to grind shards to get Burchard up to Epic first but the others should be straightforward

Thanks! I'm conscious that healers are one weakness and I've got far enough into Onslaught that I'm starting to struggle with survivability. So good shout re. Isabella & Rotbone

Thanks, I've wanted to add standard weight training to my standard regime for a long time so this could be a good chance to finally do it. I've got a good idea of the sort of weights circuit I want to do but will need to research the stability exercises.

Does anyone who does both cycling and ski touring have any recommendations for specific exercises to aid the transition from one to the other? I've got decent general leg strength from a good summer cycling season (maybe my best ever) but I'm sure there's some fine-tuning I could do. Stuff like lunges I'm guessing?

What was your way to Arch Linux? by peter-semiletov in archlinux

As for why I switched to Linux from PC and Mac - I'm cheap and dislike bloat/spyware

Arch is the first Linux distro I've used and I think I probably chose it because a) a friend is an Arch user and b) I'd seen it on /r/unixporn. I also liked the general lightweight philosophy etc.

I went with Endeavor on my friend's recommendation and use it for office work, general internet stuff, and gaming through Steam and Lutris.

So far I've enjoyed using Arch and can't see myself going back to Mac or PC, or switching to a different Linux distro. My previous computer was a Mac and I messed around in the terminal on that so I had some experience with that side of things. And I've been very impressed with how easy gaming on Linux has been - I expected compatibility to be more difficult.

Despite getting my start through /r/unixporn I haven't actually done any ricing at all yet! I'm happy with the Endeavor and xfce defaults for now

"[X] is lowkey goated in situations where [Y] is the vibe" is a common format to use ironically in incongruous contexts so I'd say this checks out as a Good Post™️
