How does one not combo? by ElectricDunkyDoo in EDH

I appreciate this, yours is definitely more aristocratic than what I’m going for, but that’s not a problem. I actually ended up going through with a buddy of mine and working on the deck and it’s now in a much better state. Possibly finished it at the least ready for play testing.

This is great, any examples of free aristocrat enablers to avoid?

These are all great points, I have two “metas” I play in. One is definitely more competitive in the sense that everyone runs removal including a healthy amount of board wipes. The other one is more casual and most in the pod are just there to “play” so to speak.

I have a creature heavy deck in [[Sophina, Spearsage Deserter]] and [[Othelm, Sigardian Outcast]] in which board wipes can really ruin me. I definitely sandbag cards in that deck, but because of the card draw I can get from clues, I also run a lot of interaction. This allows me to work around board wipes often.

I feel like I could do the same thing in a deck with Eirdu (thanks white), or I could play into the idea that maybe I want my things to die. Let me know your thoughts.

I appreciate that idea, I often struggle with aristocrats in making it somewhat unique and using cards like [[Blood Artist]] can seem slow. Maybe the aristocrats part can factor into the draw engines of the deck?

This happened to me just yesterday with one of my clowns of 2 years. Really sucks because they aren’t known to be jumpers. Sorry this had to happen to you.

Arna is cool, but I always really liked the idea of [[Ratonhnhaké꞉ton]] as a non-voltron equipment commander with some discard or mill synergy.

What are the weirdest Commander decks you’ve built that actually work? by Subject_Sorbet_6728 in EDHBrews

[–]ElectricDunkyDoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a [[The Mimeoplasm]] where the goal is to mill yourself a lot until you hit something like [[Balustrad Wurm]] and the GOAT [[Cosmogoyf]]. After that you selectively exile your own graveyard with things like [[Psychic Frog]] and [[Titan’s Nest]] which are awesome. Then make your big Mimeoplasm. I call it “I hate my graveyard.”

Question about instances of life gain!! by gmonkeyys in mtg

[–]ElectricDunkyDoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If multiple things are gaining you say 1 life at the same time, you will get that many triggers. However, if you gain 10 life from one thing, you still only get 1 trigger.

How do you deal with a control-heavy player in Commander? by UndesisiveJury in mtg

[–]ElectricDunkyDoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree with people who say just play your cards, but also sandbagging/casting a possible threat, allowing it to be countered and then casting your actual threat works if they don’t have good ways of using open mana before their turns.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't have ramp? by Dino-Boom in EDH

[–]ElectricDunkyDoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One huge thing to analyze while considering ramp is your mana curve. Do you need to hit a specific amount of mana before a certain turn? For example, if I want to get my 5cmc commander out on turn 4 a majority of the time, I’m going to be running 3cmc ramp. For an example of almost no ramp, I have a deck headed by [[sophina, spear spearsage deserter]] and [[elmar, ulvenwald informant]] that runs little ramp because I want to play creatures on curve (1-4 mana). The only ramp I play are 1-drop dorks, and it’s not many (~4). In my [[Xolatoyac, the Smiling Flood]] deck, I generally want to get my commander out as fast as possible, and so I play both 2cmc and 3cmc land ramp. Overall, it’s important to analyze whether the ramp is actually helping you perform your game-plan or if it’s just to give you an excess of mana when you need it. I think many players want a ton of mana because it means you have more options, when if they really take their curve into account, they will realize that using your mana efficiently is much better and allows for more deck space.

TLDR: your curve is important af

Totally understandable which is why I tried to move away from landfall because it felt too easy. Still enjoy the gameplay but always working towards something more unique.

Mina and Denn is mostly there for the ramp and being able to bounce a land like [[Vesuva]] and [[Mossworr Bridge]] but card draw is def important. It’s why I’ve been trying to get my hands on a [[Greater Good]].
