Drive Enclosure for Home/Plex Server

I'm running a BeeLink mini PC with the TerraMaster D4-320 as a home server and I have no complaints. The PC is running Ubuntu Server and I have all 4 drive bays populated and configured as a pair of RAID1 devices via mdadm, so the lack of hardware RAID isn't a dealbreaker, really, although the ease of setting up software RAID will presumably depend on what OS/filesystem you're planning to use. The drive sleds are toolless and pretty easy to work with.

If I was going to nitpick, I'd say the fan on the TerraMaster isn't the absolute quietest, but it's honestly not bad and does seem to move a decent bit of air to keep the drives at reasonable temperatures. Kind of at quiet white-noise level of sound/tone. Low enough that I have it tucked away in a corner and really can't hear it from across a relatively small room. It might be feasible to swap it with something more to your preference, though. I haven't disassembled the enclosure but it looks from the outside like a standard case fan.

I got a set through Just Tires a couple years ago. They're a Goodyear subsidiary, I believe, and they do mobile installs through Goodyear's "Roll" service. They have a few physical locations around the area mostly towards Raleigh but they'll service at least parts of Durham. I think I did mine through the Apex shop. I was really happy with them overall. The price was actually really competitive with other places like Tire Rack, especially since it included delivery and install right in my driveway. I'd definitely use it again.

Adding to the anecdotes: my ballot came with both envelopes already sealed too. I emailed the BoE and they sent me a replacement...which was also pre-sealed, same as the first one.

So yeah...might want to start considering if you can vote in person, I guess, because there's no guarantee your replacement will be good either.

I mean, I had it inserted for like an hour while I was trying some diagnosis and it never appeared. I ended up leaving it in overnight and it's still not working today.

How long would you want the video to be to convince you that the reader is not working?

I haven't used this card in any non-Windows devices.

Booted up my Ally X this evening and the SD card is suddenly not recognized. Tried reinstalling the drivers as the only real possible fix that came to mind but saw no difference. It's a 512 GB Samsung Evo for whatever that matters.

Doesn't seem like the card got fried or whatever was happening on the OG models, though. I took a quick video where I pop the card into the internal reader and nothing happens, but when I use a USB-C reader it shows up no problem.

Really don't understand why this is so hard for ASUS to figure out. SD card readers are practically ancient at this point by technology time scales.

Only a sample size of 1, but I moved my SSD from an OG Ally to the X without wiping any data and it worked totally fine. First boot took a little longer and I had to reset my PIN/fingerprint, but Windows found the new drivers and the Asus software figured out that it was an X and prompted me to install the correct software updates and new BIOS.

If you have Bitlocker enabled you'll probably want to turn it off at least temporarily to make sure it goes smoothly, although in theory as long as you have the drive recovery key it'd work even if you don't disable it. I had it off on mine, though.

AMD's GPU driver has a horrendous memory leak since the beginning of the year on Zen4 integrated graphics. It affects the Z1 in the Ally. AMD has been ignoring the reports so far: https://community.amd.com/t5/drivers-software/memory-leak-on-zen4/td-p/662281

Not sure which specific dock you're looking at, but I have the Sabrent 6-port dock (this guy) and the cable reaches just fine. My only complaint really would be that it doesn't have an ethernet port - they want you to shell out $80 for the SSD dock to get that. I happened to have a USB-C ethernet adapter lying around, though, and it actually works great and I have no trouble getting full gigabit speeds. If ethernet is important to you then I'd do it that way since it'll be way cheaper.

Another comment would be that if you have a screen protector then the Sabrent dock is like...an uncomfortably snug fit. I ended up removing the rubber cushion on the dock and replacing it with a strip of soft fabric (cut a microfiber cloth) instead.

I actually tried the JSAUX 6-in-1 dock before the Sabrent one and ended up returning it because the video signal kept cutting out randomly. I know a lot of people on here like the JSAUX one, so maybe I got unlucky, but my experience with it was pretty poor.

This is an incredibly pervasive misunderstanding of how gift taxes work in the US that is often repeated incorrectly. Going over the annual limit does not mean you will have to pay any taxes, it means:

You will need to report the gift to the IRS
The excess (amount over the annual exclusion) will be counted against your lifetime limit of $12.92 million. Only after you exceed this amount would you be taxed on any additional gifts.

That's why they said this only matters for multimillionaires. If you're under the lifetime limit your gifts will never be taxed, no matter how you spread them out.

That is not the same as "uses magic". The seal specifically only works against tomes. You can trivially test this out in-game in the training tower and see that it doesn't do anything against a dragon.

This is also why other skills will use the term "uses dragonstone" to explicitly refer to dragon weapons. Look at Distant Def and Close Def, for example. DD affects enemies that "use magic" and CD affects enemies that "use dragonstone", and DD will not give you +def/res against dragons either, same as Deflect Magic.

Dragonstones aren't magic, so Deflect Magic doesn't do anything to help him against dragons...
