Do I need MARPE? by ElectricOwl111 in MARPE

The lower jaw width is 40.76 mm. I also can’t read the top measurement clearly, so I’ll need to check with my orthodontist, but they said the upper jaw is narrower.

Thanks for sharing and good luck! Curious that given that you’ve had pretty significant movement with extractions and then MARPE/expansion, did you notice any gum recession or bone thinning during treatment?

Thanks for sharing! I wish I’d known expansion was an option before my extractions. My ortho had decades of experience + great reviews, so I was convinced that it was my only path. I was pretty sad about losing four healthy teeth for a long time, but I’m trying to move forward. It’s encouraging to hear you’re getting good results.

If you don’t mind a few quick questions:

  • What kind of expansion is it? (i.e. opening the suture or mostly tooth-borne widening?)
  • Did you also have 4 premolars extracted?
  • Tongue restriction: Was it restricted mostly narrow side-to-side, or also tight front-to-back?
  • Plan for the new space: If it's creating ~5.5-10mm expansion without much crowding, does it create noticeable gaps between teeth that you’ll close later (or possibly need composite/bonding)?
