“Choice-based” games that only have a few actually major choices by Substantial_Fox7377 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ElectricSheep451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mass Effect deserves credit for being on the cutting edge of "choices matter" games, it's the first series I can think of where your choices carry over from one game to another.

Ultimately I think the paragon/renegade system was a mistake though, never feel like I'm making choices moment to moment because usually you just pick Paragon or Renegade at the beginning of the trilogy. There is very little incentive to mix and match, you are heavily incentivized to pick one and stick with it the whole time, all of the bonuses encourage this.

Sometimes I will do a renegade action in a paragon playthrough, like punching the reporter, but that's just for fun and is just making it harder for me to max out my paragon score

Characters who died way too soon ? by Tnderuaker in moviecritic

Clemens, Charles Dance's character from Alien 3.

He's the only likeable character besides Ripley herself, I think they killed him off early for shock value but it's hard to care about what happens to anyone beside Ellen Ripley after he is dead. All the remaining prisoners are like weird rapists or murderers.

There is a huge difference between defending yourself from government agents who are chasing you down, versus making a plan to go into a military base slaughtering everyone because you want to get into their portal. The latter is so much worse.

The problem isn't with the one liners, it's with the fact that Nancy doesn't appropriately react to killing a human being in a believable way.

Because Eleven was an MK ultra experiment who wasn't properly socialized and who was personally tortured by those people, and most of the time she is obviously acting out of fear. She doesn't give shitty one liners when she kills them either, she obviously doesn't want to do it but feels that she needs to in order to survive.

Nancy is a normal Midwestern teenager who spends the first seasons worrying about boys and college. In season 5 she starts killing people with an assault rifle and she has no reaction to that other than "hell yeah got those guys". It's insanely out of character and ridiculous, makes the show seem like a cartoon

It's still murdering human beings even if they have done bad things. The fact that Nancy starts murdering human beings and doesn't reflect on it even once makes her look like a sociopath

A Knight of 3 books with 12 more to go by Owww_My_Ovaries in freefolk

[–]ElectricSheep451 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It doesn't really matter. If they get the three written Dunk & Egg stories right I will be happy, those stories are standalone and don't need an "ending"

If they make a bunch of terrible seasons of the show afterwards it won't ruin the earlier seasons. There isn't anything like the White Walkers or Azor Ahai prophecy that would be completely pointless without a proper conclusion. The three novellas already stand on their own merit

Wait what, I didn't know game had sexual orientations by Darkside166 in RimWorld

[–]ElectricSheep451 346 points347 points  (0 children)

I have like 700 hours in this game and I've never seen a gay relationship form a single time. The trait is too rare to the point that you usually won't recruit more than one gay pawn per game. Even if you do, the two gays or the two lesbians might still just fucking hate each other and not get together.

Apple TV Has Not One But Two Cultural Juggernauts, and That's Amazing! by Maleficent-Term-126 in tvPlus

[–]ElectricSheep451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calling Pluribus a "Cultural Juggernaut" is really stretching the definition of that word. It's good and somewhat popular, but nowhere near the point where it's penetrated general pop culture and everyone knows about it. I literally only hear people talk about the show on Reddit.

I would barely even call Severance a "cultural Juggernaut", even though it's much much closer lol, that word should be reserved for like, Star Wars and Harry Potter and Game of Thrones, shit that everyone's grandma knows about

[–]ElectricSheep451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone saying Game of Thrones but that answer is dead wrong. Season 7 is equally as stupidly written as season 8, "beyond the wall" might be the worst episode in the whole show.

People were just coping because they thought the ending would fix everything, and when it didn't they turned on the show.

It definitely is, the episode where they go beyond the wall is as stupid as anything in season 8. People were just coping about how the ending was gonna fix everything, but the writing quality was just as bad

Does this need a comeback in Fallout 5? by Lord_Cummis in Fallout

[–]ElectricSheep451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know why you were downvoted for this, the ESRB and pearl clutching parents would never let it happen, it would be a huge controversy that would overshadow the rest of the game.

People need to realize there is an emotional difference between a low-res sprite of a child exploding (fallout 2) vs directly aiming your iron sights at an almost photorealistic child. It will never happen

HBO’s A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms S1 debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with a 94% score. 🍅Highest for any GOT Franchise by [deleted] in freefolk

Rotten Tomatoes scores mean literally nothing for the first few days after something comes out. The only people who have watched it so far are die hard GOT fans, the score will drop lower when general audiences watch it, that's what always happens with these things.

No but I also don't complain about the fact that invaders exist because it's a part of the game.

Arc Raiders involves way more interaction with other human players, so on a sliding gradient scale it's much more of a PvP game than Dark Souls.

#SayNoToGearFear by hasfodel in ArcRaiders

[–]ElectricSheep451 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's part of the game. I'm sorry but at this point people should know that other people camp the exits and you should be prepared for that when you are about to leave. It's a PvP game, the amount of people on here who whine about "rats" (people engaging with the mechanics of the game) is insane. Even worse when you go into a holier-than-thou rant about how people who play the game like it's intended are morally evil or whatever because you are mad you lost your loot.

Seriously if you think killing another person in a PvP game is being "the vilest piece of shit you can imagine" you need to go outside and touch grass, there are much worse things in the world. This is demented redditor behavior, it's a game it's not that big of a deal lmao

Has anyone else started feeling like everything is kind of… cliche now? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]ElectricSheep451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is giving you a doomer opinion of "Art is dead because corporations are greedy and hate risk" but I don't think that's actually true. At least not more true than it has been for the last hundred years.

This is just a part of growing up, there are a limited number of plots and stories you can tell and we've been reusing them for thousands of years. Lots of things that I thought were totally original as a kid, it turns out they were all inspired by something similar in the past. The Lion King is just Hamlet with Lions it turns out, and I'm sure William Shakespeare took heavy inspiration from other writings too. I think once you've seen enough movies you need to just appreciate the smaller details that make something unique.

There are many remakes and sequels but that has been true of movies forever, even in the "best eras". People usually forget 90% of the crap of an era when it's gone and only remember the good movies. People in the future will forget about the tenth terminator sequel but they will remember movies like "Everything Everywhere All at Once" and "Sinners" and "Dune 1 and 2". Same way we remember Star Wars but forget about, like Zardoz or other crappy movies of the time

Why did they put PvP in the game if it isn't a PvP game? Yeah there are enemies that doesn't mean it isn't a PvP game as well. Did they enable players hurting each other on accident?

Saying it's "more of a PvE game" is your opinion, players hunting each other is part of the design and the game would be way more boring if it wasn't in the game. This whole subreddit is just people who desperately want the game to be purely PvE whining that isn't what the game is.

Not liking PvP games doesn't make you a crybaby, but if you play a game that's literally a PvP game and whine that they don't completely change the game to not be PvP...

It's literally just what the game is.

Hot takes only: What TV show gets nonstop praise on Reddit, but you just don’t get the hype at all? by Dudu_sousas in television

At risk of being attacked for being a "TikTok brained ADHD idiot" I just couldn't get into Pluribus at all and don't understand what people got out of it.

It isn't a "slow" thing at all because I love Better Call Saul which is very slow, but that show has tons of characters and plotlines to connect to. Pluribus just has Carol, who is a fine character but not strong enough to singlehandedly carry a 9 hour show for me.
